A very f#!cked up movie "Cannibal Holocaust"

I, well actually my boyfriend found this movie on the new release wall at hollywood video. It was made in 1980 but they couldnt release it until now,and the people that released it got arrested at first. I am warning people not to watch this movie because thay are really killing animals in it and possibly people. it takes place in South America near the amazon, its about 3 scientists who go there to study people, the first thing they do, is find this tortoise thats about 100 years old and they kill it! I'm not going to tell you how they did it, because its so disturbing, and I read about the movie, they really kill these poor innocent creatures. I think its a snuff film I complained to the video store about it and I also contacted peta to see if anything could be done, so if you want to see this movie, I highly reccomend that you dont because its so disturbing.

Nowhere near as disturbing as FORREST GUMP.

And it was released decades ago.

You really like NAPOLEAN DYNAMITE more than PULP FICTION? Nuts to that.

The only thing about this post that stood out was that "Melissa" used two symbols to substitute the u in "fucked." I wonder how she spells it?
If you're such a pussy, then why the hell did you rent a movie called Cannibal Holocaust?
By the way, I think CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST is a great film. One of my favorites.

PETA has a T-800? Maybe steak isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Yes the whole movie bothered me.I dont know if they are really killing the people in it, I dont think they are, but they really are killing the turtle, and a pig, and a muskrat, and yes the fact that they are really killing the animals is what bothered me the most. In a review I read of the movie it says that people werent killed but animals were, but it looked very real with the people as well.
I hold Cannibal Holocaust in the same vein as Ichi the Killer and Irreversible, great films that deserve to be seen, but need only be recommended to people you feel can appreciate and/or stomach them.

But this...I think its a snuff film I complained to the video store about it and I also contacted peta to see if anything could be done, so if you want to see this movie, I highly reccomend that you dont because its so disturbing.

Is just really, really silly.

Saw a midnight showing. It's interesting how much funnier the movie plays with a crowd.

Tell me about it, my friends and I were eventually able to soften the punch of Irreversible , took some doing, but now the film serves as a springboard for a few onging jokes (still horrifying though).

Melissa76, you're vegan, right?

Thank you for correcting my english. Well the movie is just my opinion and I am impressed I got such positive feedback. I know I'm not cool enough to be friends with you guys though, I know I'm a nerd.

The thing is that though Cannibal Holocaust is gross, in a slightly drunken atomosphere with Real headz who know the deal, it's not particularly scary. Not helping things is that the dubbing is terrible. And the score reminds of Halloween III. A midnight screening of this in your living room and the rough edged qualities play more freaky - horror is the only genre that can benefit from the rawness of a bad performance.

I'm afraid I must differ with you there.

Agreed, for the most part, as I do have to bring up Exhibit S: Samurai Cop

I have a suggestion. Stop being such a pansie, it's a movie and maybe those animals wanted to be movie stars, like Nemo or one of those dalmations. And who are we to deny them that??
Perhaps amateurish is a better word. But awkwardness can create a more realistic sense of dread depending on the verisimilitude of the gore. aka The Snuff movie factor.

With you on the muskrats. Those little fuckers are hell for shore erosion.

Either a shill OR she goes to University of Colorado and has taken Bruce Kawin's horror genre class. He shows Holocaust and various other films that will alter your brain over the semester.

Edit: Nevermind she mentioned she got it at Hollywood video.

This is required historical viewing for any aspiring gore-hound. Alas, with today's jaded society, only PETA loving, Greenpeace joining, Vegetarian munching neo-hippies like Meilissa76 are actually "shocked" by it.

A few more suggestions to further your exploration into the Netherrealms, Mel:

Faces of Death
Hei tai yang 731 ("Men Behind the Sun")
Yi bo la beng duk ("The Ebola Syndrome")
Baat sin faan dim ji yan yuk cha siu baau ("The Untold Story")
BrainDead ("Dead Alive")
It's certainly stomach-churning. Although, not quite as bad as Salo.

How does Braindead (an over the top comedy) fit in with Faces of Death and Men Behind the Sun?

I'm a pussy so I found the cat getting ripped apart by rats in Men Behind the Sun a little much to bear, but had no problem with the orchestrated violence of Ichi the Killer, or Irreversible (after 2nd viewing, that film shook me the first time I saw it).

Cannibal Holocaust is just one of those films where from what I've heard about it I don't think I'd want to watch it. Like I said I'm a pussy when it comes to real violence.

Shows the comedic side, while keeping the Splatter Effect high. I tossed it in as a palate cleansing mint after the main course.
I did not know what the fuck was going on in Ichi with the kid and the cop. I lol'ed at the CGI-muscles of that boss guy at the end, though.

I will take off my baggy clothing and reveal the most muscular guy ever! With my head superimposed onto him!
I think there's a world of difference between gore and brutality which is fake Irreversible, Ichi the Killer, Braindead.

And just watching something get ripped apart/mutilated for real, Men Behind the Sun, The Isle, Cannibal Holocaust.

Mel, you should seek out a series of films called Guinea Pig.

Has anyone seen August Underground? I've been dying to check it out but never was able to get a copy.
I've been wanting to see that as well, but have no idea how to get a copy of it.
I think you have to make a mephistopholian deal, or go down to a seedy flea market.
The turtle killing is pretty disturbing, but the star's use of the word cunt more than makes up for that.

The homo-superior Steve Murphy took on the Guinea Pig movies in a couple of CHUD articles a while back. I'm sure someone not as lazy as I could harken back and find them. Just reading his reviews and seeing a few of the screencaps were enough for me.

Here's the thread where it was talked about...heh. Buncha pussies around here, I tells ya.

I recently contacted the head of Unearthed Films about some of his upcoming dvds- they're the guys that put out the Guinea Pig series. He told me that the original CC crew used to draw straws in who'd have to review them.

Hey I've seen em. And "From Beyond" too....(I've now officially ran that dig into the ground)

Most of the Guinea Pig series is pretty bizarre. For those interested, check out Guinea Pig: Devil Doctor Woman, as the extras cointains "Best of" clips from the others in the series.

OK, so maybe Holocaust is only big in horror circles, but I can't imagine someone not knowing about it that would rent it... This really reeks of bullshit.

2nd I'm a vegetarian (and a film major), and I own cannibal holocaust, I never loved the idea of the animal killing, but it is an amazing film, so I get passed it, and I've never watched it censored (my girlfriend also a vegetarian thinks I'm insane however for holding this opinion).

I thought old Mel was a shill as well, but her subsequent responses counter that.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you're a vegetarian for health reasons as opposed to moral ones. If so, more power to you. If not, that's quite a contradiction in moral philosphy you have going there, and I may be forced to break out my "I am the Lorax, I speak for the Trees" speech.
