Aline vs. Predator 2

Thread Starter
So, yes indeed, here it is. The Strausse brothers will be helming the new film. Apparently they want to bring the film back to the original roots of the first films in the separate series. I've heard that before and for some reason, these new directors can't seem to tell a story as gripping or as suspenseful as the originals.

They need to make these creatures SCARY for this film to work. I miss the Alien being scary as opposed to being just 'neat.'

Alien and Aliens are among my favourite films. I was insisting that Alien 3 was a minor masterpiece ever since it was released.

I simply don't care any longer. Fox achieved the impossible.

The series has become so creatively bankrupt I'd prefer a straight remake over this crap. The movie will not be scary. It will be PG-13 teen horror. It will be fast and cheap. It's over. I don't know who won but we lost anyway.

I really hope it takes place in Texas...
I hope it takes place in a big city, in public, with a LOT of collateral damage.
I really really hope that my eventual viewing of this movie requires no U.S. currency to leave my wallet.

I seen the Strause's work on music vids and commercials--I really like their style. AvP is an OK affair. I hope they do a good job on part 2. I wish to work with them one day.

Here's a link to to their site for those who want to see some of their work:

She uses an ashtray as a blunt weapon.

Well, there have been talks of theatres starting to accept Albanian Leks...

Alone in the Dark's Aline Cedrac (yes, that brilliant Tara Reid) vs Predator? Opening day.
I didn't know the form, but I knew that joke was coming. Now I can finally sleep.
I'm with Mast its over Fox screwed the pooch and went bankrupt on these franchise characters. Cheap wasn't the way to go if only they had given Ridley Scott or James Cameron the budget to make the films they had wanted to.

It's so frightening to think of how bad Alien Resurrection used to be, but how great it is compared to AvP.
Enough of this "Let Ridley or Cameron do something" talk. I don't want to see them do something with it again. They already did something with it. I do want somebody with new style, and new ideas, who can put their very own spin on it. That's why Finchers movie works for me. That's why JJ Abrams got MI3 instead of Woo.(Among other reasons...)

Aliens. Predators. Colonial Marines. On EARTH, with all sorts of high tech weaponry, city invasions, etc.
In a full-on, balls to the wall, epic, FREE FOR ALL.
I know the chances of AvP2 being any good are very slim, but the fact that they hired unkowns to direct gives me some hope that they'll deliver a good film.
That depends on the script.
Which of course will be great.

That's what I'm talking about. Have Rock or Triple H as one of the Marines. Throw in Arnold for a super-cool cameo as a bad-ass General. This would have the Halo movie running circles.
And since they brought Lance Henrikson for the first one, maybe they could fit Elipidia Carillio in. Have her fight the Predator this time.

Then again, I don't want another AVP. I'd prefer another *good* Alien or Pred film.
I'd actually prefer that we let the respective franchises lie in memory, and we get some other kind of monster/alien movie that actually feels fresh.
Pretty much the only way I'd watch this would be if Fox went the batshit-crazy Dark Horse Comics route and released Aliens Versus Predator Versus Terminator Versus Robocop.

Versus Batman.
Versus Pat Robertson.
It won't be rated R, so again, it won't be worth my time

Whoever waits, we lose.

Until you look at the work the unknowns did.
God, more MTV style filmmaking.
They won't be getting my money for this sure to be shit film.

AVP 1 could have been rated NC-17 and it still would have sucked.

At least there would have been some good gore and shocks with an R rating. Instead we got a SciFi channel film mascarading as a legitimate release in the theater.

May have been some hardcore predator on black girl action...

You have no idea what made those franchise work in the first place, do you?
They should do it like a nature documentary. No humans, no dialogue. Two hours of observing the origins of the Aliens, and the guys who created them.

Yeah, I checked out their work on the Brothers' website. Pretty damn generic stuff.
however are they making a sequel when the first one was so balls?! i was totally excited about AVP as i love both the aliens and predator films. urgh, why cant they ever get it right : /
post #35 of 48
It's been nearly 20 years since either franchise was worth a damn. The fact that we still care at all is a testament to how cool the concept is, making it even more infuriating that they have failed to make it happen. Anyone expecting this sequel to be decent really needs their head examined. Fox's lack of interest should have been evident when they figured Paul W.S. Anderson was the best guy to kick it off. I don't know the Struass Brothers, but they are not being hired for their skills, they're being hired because they're cheap and have no industry muscle for Fox to wrestle with.
I think it'd be kinda cool if they stopped fucking around with this crap and just revived the AvP video game series. AvP2 on the PC is a damn fun experience.
Those games WERE kick ass.
I found a used copy of AvP2 at EB Games fairly recently for, like...$3. That was a good day, and subsequent all-nighter.

That game's Marine story is freaking creepy. I was too scared to sleep(cause, you know, I'm a pussy), so I just stayed up and played it...which only made it worse.
It might be fun to see who has it and organize a CHUD match.

Yeah, that...that was supposed to be after Domingo. Whoops.
The Multiplayer was the stuff of legends. Who needed Halo when AVP2 was around?
Who needed Halo when Timesplitters 2 was around? Or Goldeneye, for that matter.
This movie will suck really bad if they use the screenplay thats been making the rounds.

The creatures have a face off in a K-Mart in Texas or some shit like that?....sheesh.

Right up there with "Superman III" in vileness.

Way to go, H-Town, way to GO!

Damn Straight on that.
The sucess of X Men 3 has me concerned that the People in charge of Fox have realised that the fanboy element will eat up any piece of crap they put out if packaged right and why bother about quality?
I am not of these people who automatically hates "the suits"..I can actually see their point of view: if a studio loses money it goes under...but Fox has fucked up so many potentially good films that I have had with them. From the butchury of Ridley Scott's "Kingdom of Heaven" to what they did with "X Men 3" they know shit about making movies.
Darryl Zanuck, say what you want about him, took pride in his work and made good movies. He must be turning over in his grave at the management of Fox nowdays.
It's not just Fox. I think every studio has lost its mind in one way or another. Ultimately, I think it's because marketing departments control just about everything now. Instead of focusing on how to sell a film, they'd rather make a film they already know how to sell. As a result, we're getting tons and tons of pablum.

No, he is being serious.
That script was being seriously considered at Fox.
But I think that Nick would appreciate it if we avoided any long discussions and simply say a Alien in a K Mart is a bad idea.

Maybe Ash is working there...

The bluelight special is back in full effect.
