Dreamcatcher - Blissfully Bad

Just watched Dreamcatcher for the first time the other day on DVD, out of curiosity. It was so horrible, but dammit if it wasn't entertaining in a "so bad, it's good" way. Anyone else feel the same way?

Not this viewer. In fact, that movie gave me ball cancer.

I have to admit that I really enjoyed Morgan Freeman's eyebrows, however. Spooky!

I liked how Freeman's character in the book was oh so subtly described as "someone who would be played by James Woods".

I've never been a proponent of the "so bad it's good" philosophy of filmgoing. Bad movies are just bad.

This film permanently resides on my avoid at all costs list.

I dunno about this one. I remember seeing it in the cinemas with the missus, and up until the halfway point, we were saying to each other "I don't know why everyone's bitching so much - it's almost exactly like the book" (take that for what it's worth - it's not a great book, as such, but at least it was a FAITHFUL King adaptation for a change).

Then the second half of the movie hit and everything turned on a dime. We could actually spot a whole slew of people in the audience who had obviously read the book as well, because they all started looking really confused/disappointed at pretty much exactly the same time.

Wasn't a good or a bad movie experience for me . .. just a weird one.

Unlike Carrie, Salems Lot, The Dead Zone, Stand by Me, Apt Pupil, Misery, The Shawshank Redemption, and The Green Mile huh?

This movie is just bad. Its Stephen King's Frankenstein, a movie cobbled together from the greater, fresher parts of his previous work. And there's no transcendence with it.

Cujo was pretty faithful too, with the exception of the cop-out ending.

The movie would have been a lot better if they cut out the army bullshit altogether.Just have the few friends trapped in the woods against an alien threat and trying to escape. Keep the atmospehere small and isolated.

not only is this movie bad, it is insulting. shame on the people who made it.

Tough to argue with what people have written so far. That said, Kasdan can flat-out write, and it's a pretty solid cast. I'm a sentimental mofo, so I enjoyed it. And I'd take it any day of the week over Eli Roth and all of the teenager-themed horror so pervasive nowadays.

I'm right there with you on the so-bad-it's-good. I think you can abandon hope for transcendence the second someone says "shit weasel."

And anyway it has goofy aliens and Morgan Freeman as General Eyebrow!

Dreamcatcher is one of the few books I never finished, simply because other things got in the way. After seeing the movie though, I doubt I'll ever read it again. I know I shouldn't compare the two but that film was such a waste of time it put me right off!

"I duuudditz!!!"

This is a perfactly fine shit-fest to watch while stoned or drunk....or both. It's just murder to sit through when you're sober though, if you're trying to take it seriously that is. If MST3K were still on at some point this movie would have to be on the show.

I saw the movie in theaters, and it's not the greatest movie in the world, but to me it was entertaining, I've seen worse.

I love this movie. A lot.

"Alo, Mista Gay."

You failed to mention The Night Flyer and a host of other smaller ones, too.

Sorry, should've been clearer. A faithful adaptation of one of King's HORROR stories. So you take away Shawshank, Mile, Stand By Me, Apt Pupil (debatable, I admit) and Misery is your last faithful horror/thriller adaptation as a major, mainstream release, that I can think of, anyway . . . and that was 16 years ago now.

Let's not get so fucking picky, eh? You know what I meant.

I've only seen it once (a long time ago) and hadn't read the book for comparison but I remember really getting into it. I agree the Army stuff was lame, as was the ending, but I still look back on it as a flick I enjoy. Perhaps I should watch again, but until I do I'll say yeah - I've definitely seen worse and with the flaws that it does have I don't remember it being a movie to avoid at all costs.

People, people, please, you're all missing the big picture here.
And that is the fact that the film featured the Wahlberg as a retarded alien.
If that's not quality, then, lord help me, I don't know what is.

Discussion over, people. This is all you need. Should have been brought up earlier.
