Is Nintendo the apple of Apple's eye?

Consider this: the Mac Mini currently retails for not much more than the forthcoming Sony PlayStation 3 will. The Mac Mini can play high-definition video, edit music and photographs, surf the Web, word process and edit video -- things no console can currently do well, if at all. The Mini also runs Apple's extremely robust OS X operating system. What if the Mini could also play Nintendo games? And not just play Nintendo games, but play Nintendo games specifically tailored to the strengths of the Mac Mini's hardware? Would Apple have a viable console on its hands? And if so, could it penetrate the mainstream consumer market with Macintosh computers in a way that has constantly eluded it in the past?
I don't know how possible this is. But, it could be good for both companies.

Not gonna happen. Nintendo won't be 'selling out', especially to a western company. Microsoft already tried buying them and failed.

It would be an interesting tag team, but Nintendo is so dead set on being only a gaming console as well as their love of doing most everything themselves (and Apple isn't big on partnerships either) that I don't see either company in a rush to team up any time soon.

Yeah there are probably a lot of reasons it won't happen. I know also that the Mac Mini, while certainly lovely, isn't really well suited for gaming with its integrated graphics chip.

Is there any thing to back this up? Or is it just rampant speculation?
I predict that Nintendo is going to need A LOT of help after this year.
"wii" is the worst fucking name for a game system EVER.

So the name is going to kill sales?

It could be called Syphilis and people would eat it up. The word on the console has been great and most likely the cheaper price compared to other consoles will be it's biggest advantage. Even some non-gamers have been asking me when Wii will hit stores just based on footage of people using the nunchuck controllers on YouTube.

And a Nintendo/Apple team-up is likely to never happen.

I know it's a dead hourse, but...

I got carpal tunnel just watching those people swing the Wii-mote around. I think it's a cool gimmick that will sell to casual gamers, though. Reading the hands on reviews from Gamespot a while back yielded a foreboding, common complaint: "It was neat, but after a little while, my shoulder started to hurt". FUCKING DUH.

Yep...absolutely. It's like they couldnt come up with a decent name for the thing, so they gave a chimp a bannanna and a keyboard and had him just start mashing buttons.
And I also dont think this new, immersive controller nonsense is really going to sway too many people. The PowerGlove didnt, so why should this? It's just a silly gimmick and I have a feeling that the novelty of it will wear thin eventually.
It seriously doesnt stir ANY interest what-so-ever in me, that's for sure.
It ultimately comes down to the quality of the games, not what's used to play them.

One thing I've been reading is that it's really tempting to go hog wild with the controller when you first get your hands on it, even though it isn't necessary. Some small, simple movements can achieve the same effects. Of course, I haven't touched the thing, so I have no idea how true that is.

Why do people keep bring up the Powerglove when talking about the new Nintendo? #1: Nintendo didn't make the Powerglove, Mattel did. and #2: the Powerglove sucked from the get-go, while the remote has some great potential, and apparently, works well. Feel free to bring up the Virtual Boy though, that thing was awful and Nintendo made it.

Well, the creator of the Virtual Boy died a fiery death in a car accident, so not even that would be a fair comparison.
I dont even know what the Virtual Boy is! I've never heard of it.
And the PowerGlove is a valid comparison because it was a "controller" that was supposed to change the way you played games and offer an "immersive" game playing experience.

It really is a rather obvious statement to make, but I can't resist: "so sayeth the AssClown".

But you're still crucifying them on the controller. Hmm...

What the AssClown says is sacrosanct. Has no one learned this yet?

P.S..> I got my name from the movie OfficeSpace. People often wonder about that. I just thought it was funny.

I'm actually not. I'm just saying that I dont think the controller thing isn't going to be as big a deal as I think they are hoping it will be. I certainly don't give a shit about it.

I really hope the new system does great and is a truly great system. It's high time Nintendo took back their rightful place as the kings of home gaming. And if the games are great then count me in.

How about this, then: The power glove was a third party controller with few games which supported it, with twitchy and often inaccurate calibration, for a system that lacked the processing power for decent motion sensitivity.

Whereas the Wii controller is integral to the system, will be supported by ALL the games on the system, and calibrates quickly and easily.

Just like U-Force did huh?

I have heard conflicting reports on the physical aftereffects of playing this thing so I will reserve judgement until i play it.

wow, yet another comparison to a third party controller for the NES with poor game support as a reason the Wii controller will fail.
