I haven't visited the boards for months. They're presently down. So is this Johnny and co. they're talking about? Who's got the scoop?

Scandal! Drama! Ratings!

I knew I should've written an article about what happened.

Basically- Butane and gang got locked out of their site last weekend. They're not allowed in, fired from the place.... because the heads of THC didn't like the direction they were going in. It's fucking shitty stuff... real scumbaggy.

So Dread Central is coming back up... they're having a site relaunch on July 4th.

Here's UC's message (from their myspace page)

Quote:
As many of you know by now, I'm no longer associated with The Horror Channel. Along with me they've locked out the entire web team. And why?

Well, there's a lot behind that story. Apparently they've decided to abandon all hope of getting a terrestrial channel on the air in favor of a web channel. That's what some of us have been told, but they haven't gone public with that statement yet. Sorry to spoil your "big announcement," guys. That is not what we all signed on for. That is not what the fans have been promised. I see now they're trying to back peddle on that. We shall see. They have to try to save face, ya know?

Secondly, the guy in command, Nick Psaltos, has made it a habit of berating the team with comments like "your opinions are meaningless" and "your tenure in the company affords you no clout." He's even gone so far as to hand down mantras that we are to recite each day to help "improve our reading comprehension skills" as a means to become better writers. We were even asked not to link to other sites such as Fango and Bloody-Disgusting even if we were reporting on their headlines. There's no integrity in doing that. We said no.

On their forums they've offered up the explanation that we've been misrepresenting the company. How? By sticking to our guns about it being for the fans?

As a result, the next step has been taken by the new regime. We are now locked out of the website. The website we built. The website you loved.

So what's next? We WILL NOT be stopped. We WILL NOT go quietly. We made horror history by becoming one of the biggest and most well respected horror sites out there in just a few short months. That is because of you, the fans. You guys are The Horror Channel. Now the entire team is walking from top to bottom. We will not sell out. We never would. What you're seeing now is not history, it's evolution.

Coming very soon you will see the Dawn of the Dread, the rebirth of DreadCentral.com . Keep your eyes peeled for more right here.

On a personal note: I just wanted to thank you all for the support you've given us over the last few years. You mean the world to us, and as a result we're gonna keep at it with every fiber of our being.

As for The Horror Channel . . . We wish them well.

But as far as we know....

The revolution will NOT be televised.

I was scared for a second that the interweb would lose the "Best Rape Scene" forum.

Uncle Creepy was the channel's best advocate. Every day he fielded criticisms (some from me) and towed the company line. If they didn't like the job he was doing they are truly clueless. Glad to see he's stepped out from under their thumb.

Good for them. Best of luck to Butane and the crew.

Completely. Jokes about rape threads aside, those are good people.
I can't believe they didn't realize that a web channel would be total ass.

I heard rumblings about this as well. Can't say I'm surprised though - it was pretty clear that the TV channel idea was dead in the water.

I'm just glad Johnny and Ryan are making like phoenixes (phoenii?) and rising from the ashes.
Johnny and Ryan deserve better than that ridiculous vaporstation anyway. Good luck, guys.
Ryan got out long ago. I forget to where it was that he went but he hasn't been part of the site or the company for some time now. But I am glad that Johnny and UC have gone on to (hopefully) bigger and better things.

Ryan writes for Fangoria.

Lucky bastard got himself a job working for Fango.

We are a company with a responsibility to its consumers, who have the right to enjoy an entertainment experience that is not compromised by hurtful or insensitive dialogue. As it is with many new and young companies, we are going through some "growing pains." Please understand that The Horror Channel has been, and always will be, about and for our fans.
That's from the THC piece.... how hysterical is that? What consumers? There's no channel!

I wonder if they realize how much this will turn people off from ever checking their site again.

Looking forward to what they do with Dread Central. Always been a fan of Johnny and Ryan- the old CC guys turned me on to a million movies that I never would've heard of otherwise. Hope they get the best.

Ryan's making like the Big Dog over at Fangoria.com (just ran into him at the Cinematheque this week - "The Devil Rides Out" WOOT!). He, Gingold and "Sean Decker" (?) are doing news stories and reviews, but Ryan's also showing up in the mag a lot more after debuting with a "Dead and Breakfast" story. He was hosting a bunch of the panels a couple of weekend's ago at Fango Con in Burbank. As the median age of west coast Fango writers advances upwards, it looks like he'll be taking on more and more out here, which is fucking great.

And Butane is over at DreadCentral.com. The Forums are already up and roaring and the site w/news looks like it's re-launching on July 4th. And honestly, if THC didn't know what they had with a bad-ass like Butane, fuck them right in the pee-hole.

The Horror Channel is pleased to announce the addition of the original Leatherface himself, Gunnar Hansen to The Horror Channel’s editorial staff.

LOL
Apparently that's a lie as well- they just got him to write a couple of articles that are going to show up there.

I followed Rotten to that place, the message board was fun while it lasted. Ryan was always their best contributor, so not surprised he got snapped up by Fangoria.

actually Sean Clark was a really great contributor too, is he still with them? would be downright tragic to lose his excellent pilgrimage series "Horror's Hallowed Grounds"...

Actually almost all of us bailed out of THC and went over to Dread Central. I don't think that any of the web staff stayed, but I'm not positive. I left when I heard about what happened to Uncle Creepy and I know that Johnny had already left by that point, as well as Sean, Valurocker, Kyra, Scott, Foy, and several others. I know that there are 2 sides to every story, but the whole thing stinks on ice. I'm sure that Dread Central is going to be great.

I sure fucking miss those days. I wish I still had all of my old Fangoria mags too.

sigh...

Why did Uncle Creepy and a lot of board veterans leave Fangoria's message boards? I know this is old news, but I was banned when they left. (My first username was Ultra Gore and later Stefan. I sincerely wasn't a troll. I just disagreed with UC's then-new policy about talking politics, and I purposefully posted about politics to get banned to make some stupid point, which--in retrospect--was obviously stupid. Up until I did that, however, I posted over 1,000 messages without giving UC any problems. And, UC, if you're reading this, I apologize for giving you trouble).

I've since rejoined Fangoria, and it was surprising to see UC and lot of board vets gone. It's still fun posting there now and reading other people's messages, but I'm just wondering why quite a number of cool people left.

It's up now.

The Horror Channel has become a joke. A post script. They're now issuing "Press Releases" about having had their one millionth hit to the web site. That's great if you're a website. But, you're supposed to be a cable channel. The reason they're issuing press releases about these faux "benchmarks" is because their real benchmarks, getting a cable channel on the air, have not been met.

At this point, it's like rearranging chairs on the Titanic over there.
