Prey Official Site

Nab the PC demo at one of the sites listed HERE.

Buy the game on July 10, 2006.

I feel like a dirty shill...I'm downloading the pc demo right now seeing as you guys said it hasn't released on X-Box Live just yet. Thanks to whoever the cool cat that said Gamers Hell was a good site for free downloads. They have some zippy servers.

It's one of those "weird, but weird in a cool way" sort of experiences: lots of tripped-out visuals, enemies (and you) running on the ceiling and the walls, strange gravity effects and tricks, portals to other dimensions, the ability to leave your body, "living" weapons, etc.

Demo is worth checking out, if you have the system for it (if you could run Doom 3 or Quake 4, you can run Prey).

Hard to believe that the game is finally here; it seemed like it was lost forever at one point.

I played this game at the World Series of Video Games as part of a small deathmatch tournament.

I had no preconceived notions about it going in, but I ended up enjoying. It reminded a little of Duke Nukem in terms of gameplay. The weapons were decent, a few looked a little H.R. Giger, if you catch my drift.

The dimensional portal stuff is fun, I couldn't use to the openings that come up from under your feet. But, overall it was decent.

I loved how interactive the bar in the beginning was. Jukebox, television, video games, all operational. Lots of fun so far, I'll be buying this one when it hits.

but for which platform...will you be all obsessive compulsive and try and get every achievement point available or enjoy being able to use your mouse for aiming.

There were way too many wtf moments to count. The game just got cooler as you moved along. Best use of the doom 3 engine so far - not that there are many doom 3 games out there aside from Quake. Which leads me to hope they freakin' optimized the game for the 360 because it'll just be cooler playing it on a larger screen & against you folk on live.

I had no idea it was going to be this good. Just thought it would be another me too shooter until gear of war/halo 3 hit the market.

Game Pre-Ordered.

Yeah, that's why I'm kinda anxious for the 360 demo. If it runs as poorly as Quake IV did I'll be sticking to the pc flavor, which runs great on my machine.

And I agree, I really wasn't expecting this to be quite this fun. Definite cheesy goodness, Art Bell radio spots and all...

So, how long did any of you stand at the juicer machine? I sat and watched 3 of the buggers before moving on. I'd pay to have that as an interactive screen saver.

You know, let it cue up some hot celeb of the day - and at a key stroke - stabby time.

Me wanty.

Can't wait to play the demo...not happening today though..

Glad to hear how fun it seems already...I'm a sucker for Special Editions of games and I think there's a shiney boxed version of the 360 version coming out too.

May as well just preorder this sucker.

Edit: The Special Edition comes with a little toy....*ahem*...action figure...Sold!

Okay, PC demo thoughts...

Juicer machine. Oddly fun to watch.

Two five year old children locked in a room together. What happened isn't all that far from reality.

I started the Juicer machine again. It won't turn off...? Oh well.

Did anybody else get Don't Fear The Reaper just as the aliens took the bar? Another highlight was fighting in the bar near the end to "You've got Another Thing Coming."

Multiplayer is trash. Five year old formula with gravity and portal tricks aren't enough to warrent a passing grade.

Where the fuck is Duke Nukem Forever.

What kinds of MP are available in the demo?

FPS online are usually all the same....kill other people.

I'd say being able to go through portals and walking on walls seems pretty different from...well...every other FPS out there.
Your basic DM TDM. Beyond that I'm not exactly sure, but it's all Quake style run around at super speed bunny hopping gameplay. The gameplay is so fast that the portals and wall walking don't really have any sort of effect, you won't notice anything that makes you stop and admire the gameplay.
I enjoyed the opening bar scene, though the mirror-talking bit was over the top. As soon as I hit the alien ship, I began losing interest fast. I felt like I was re-playing the last level of half-life 2 at first. I then remembered why I found the later iterations of Doom and Quake so annoying: the endless dark tunnels get old really, really fast. The transitions between metal and organic materials seemed kind of funky as well.

The frame-rate was pretty darn impressive, IMHO.

I stood there for maybe 5. I was rather disturbed by the whole thing, especially the crotch shots. Pretty freakin' gross. I'm just glad my computer can run it. It handles it well enough so I'm satisfied.

I haven't gone all the way through the demo yet, but I'll get back to it soon. I like the visual style. Different enough to stand out a bit, so far at least.
It sucks that you can't save in the 360 demo.
The single player isn't bad, but like Overlord said above, the dark hallways just weren't holding my interest much. The wall walking was giving me a headache, as was the bird that would just flash by in the corners of the screen every now and then.

Multi-player didn't do anything for me. It doesn't feel like it was optimized for the console at all. Way to fast, way to laggy.

I'll probably still end up purchasing, but that has more to do with a lack of 360content than anything else. I'm holding out hope that the demo was cut awhile ago, and the final product is cleaned up quite a bit.
I liked it. Not $60 worth of like, but it earned a rental at least.

The portals are sweet.
I got a little dizzy playing it and I play tons of FPS games and this is the first time I've ever gotten dizzy.I'll probably wait until it comes down to $30 or maybe just rent it.

Holy shit, this multiplayer is completely busted.

This is getting at least a rental from me. Fucking loved the single player, but I'm biased just because I'm a sucker for an FPS with a decent plot.

And as Slater said, the multiplayer is totally fucked at this point. Hopefully it'll be fixed when the game comes out.

This could very well be the best game ever made about a magic indian.

Seconded.

Haven't tried the MP yet but I did enjoy the hell outta the SP portion of the demo.

Does it end when you go back to the bar or is it a timed demo? I was just standing there waiting to enter 1 of 500 portals and then the demo ended. I was hoping to try out one of the cool vehicles they show in some trailers.

Yeah, that's the end.

I've probably played around 20 multi-player games, never once was it an enjoyable experience. There is absolutely 0 skill involved - run to the best weapon, hold down the fire button, hope the guy you're shooting at doesn't lag so much you can't hit him - repeat.

Turok kicks Prey's ass (killing dinosaurs and dinosaur aliens OUTSIDE is much more fun than killing aliens in a dark hallway). Although I guess you could argue that Turok is more super human than magic.

9.0 from IGN. Strange though, in the main review not a single word is said about the multi-player, not one. They have a mini "different take" review after that has maybe a sentence or two about multi-player and mentions that the single player game is short. Then they gave it a 9.0 in "replay". I don't know.

still haven't decided which platform to get it on, but lean heavily to playing it on my pc. if multiplay on 360 is kinda broken...not much of a point when I can get my killing fix with Call of Duty 2.

I was wrong, Gamestop just called and said my preorder was in. Now I have to decide if I actually want it or not.

You do.
Really? I'm not so sure. This game just doesn't get me pumped to go out and buy it.
I've had the game for the PC all weekend and while it's a very well polished game, it is also extremely short. I think I ended up finishing it around the 6 hour mark or so. Although, I do prefer a well done short game then a shitty long one. I'm going to have to play it on the harder difficulty mode this week and see if the AI is really that good. I know they said there is adaptive AI in the game, but honestly, if that's what it is then I'm either really good or the AI is incredibly shitty. And I loved listening to all of the Art Bell transmissions that would play occasionally.

Well why the hell do you have the right to talk then? Lol.

That moron at IGN should be fired for that review.

"The game is worth buying for its multiplayer. Which, unfortunately, we forgot to mention in our review."

Good question.

1) He never asked about multiplayer,
2) The demo rocks,
3) Cause my mom said so, and
4) My Gamerscore, bitch.

edit: lol
I'm never going to win an arguement with you with your gigantic 360 wang made of points.
I'm really fucking tempted to buy this, partly because I've been chomping at the bit for a good FPS. Might just trade in Far Cry to get this at EB.
I'm not a fan of the multiplayer at all. I like to have some sort of teamwork/thinking then just run and gun like Prey. We lanned it up this weekend and that was fun for like an hour, but I've had way more fun going through the single player. Maybe if I take a break from Battlefield 2 for awhile, Prey's multiplayer will grow on me.
Enjoyable single player but boy is it short! I'm not sure if this was worth 60 dollars but I guess it was fun while it lasted. Don't really understand the incentive to replay the game on a harder difficulty when you can't even die in the first place. Kind of takes the challenge out. Nevertheless running up walls never gets old and I'll probably give it another go in the future.
