Clive Barker's The Plague

I hoped that by having his own production company, Barker would use it to actually make movies that were unique to his sensibility and that he would have struggled to make elsewhere. This sounds like The Stand meets The 4400 and could have come from any low-ambition DTV outfit.

Slightly off topic, Barker's gay.

As Barker hasn't really accomplished anything worthwhile in the past 10 years, this doesn't sound like it will break that streak.

I'll wait for the "in production" (possibly forever) "Midnight Train", "Thief of Always" and "Tortured Souls: Animae Damnatae" unless a reviewer convinces me otherwise.

Does this mean we have to see everything in a Barker's works as "gay", ala the Singer "Superman Returns" idiots?

Actually, it was readily apparent back in the "Books of Blood" stories except by all but the most obtuse.

Yeah, but nothing was as gay as Sacrament.

I find it too bad that in this age of the return of horror, someone with as unique a vision as Barker comes out with DTV crap.

I'll admit to anticipation of The Scarlet Gospels, more because I like Harry D'Amour's character than because of Pinhead's demise, but at this point I'm not expecting anything as good as his old works. If he can achieve "entertaining" I'll be satisfied; if it's really good I'll be very pleasantly surprised. But it's rather sad that he seems to have gone the way of Stephen King, albeit less prolifically and in his own twisted way. And why should I expect excellent films if his later books are lacking? Well, we'll always have Books of Blood (not to mention Imajica and the Great & Secret Show books.)

Has any horror author remained on the ball throughout their career?

RJ's review of this one is up!

Another one to avoid, then. The hits just keep on coming down at Creature Corner.

Sorry, sir. We'll make sure just to cover only the good movies from now on.

Well, you know, maybe you've hit an unlucky streak. And I do appreciate you guys taking one (or several, as the case may be) for the rest of us.

I just realized I have a review of Ju-On 2 coming up- that's another stinker. Dah.

I think the big problem is that everyone dumps horror movies out at us this time of year- there is so much crap for me to sift through.... you wouldn't believe how bad some of the movies I get are...

I was going to ask... this concept sounds nothing like any of his work that I've read. Do you think he's going the full DTV Wes Craven route? Just going to slap his name on piecemeal genre shit?
