Hanks, Spielberg, comedy?

According to Variety (and the good people at cinema Confidential ), Steven Spielberg will reteam late this year with Tom Hanks for the comedy "Terminal".
The plot concerns "an Eastern European immigrant who becomes a resident of a New York airport terminal when a war breaks out and erases his country from the map, voiding his passport. He makes friends with the airport staff and falls in love with a flight attendant."

It's about time Hanks made another comedy. Although the story could either lead to an off-beat movie or a sappy one. I'm hoping for the former (although we'll most probably get the latter).

CHUD had that months ago:

Q: What are some films that the studio is working on for next year that you are particularly excited about?

Kemp: I love Terminal, which is actually written. It's a really interesting thing, and there's a really good chance Tom [Hanks] might become involved with it. It's a comedy about an eastern European immigrant who comes to New York and while he is flying there is a coup in his country and while he is waiting in line they tell him his passport is invalid. They tell him to just wait and it will be cleared up in a few hours, and nine months later he is still living there! He gets to see America through being stuck in an airport. It's quite funny.

Q: It's based on a true story, right?

Kemp: Yes, this man in France who lived in an airport for the last four years.

Dude, Indy 4 will rock! (Unless Ford and Connery look as bad as Arnold in T3)

Wasn't Andrew Niccol (Gattaca, Simone) in the running to direct this at one point?
