There is no fucking way you can make a movie about a bunch of robots who turn into cars a "dark,serious movie" and you will just look dumb if you try. It's called the basic concept kind of rules that out...except for the hardcore fanboys and there ain't that many of them around for "Transformers".
If you are going to do it, accept the basic silliness of the idea, have fun with it, and make it a not take itself too seriously romp.
TO make his work needs a light touch, and Michael Bay is not the the guy for that.
I read it has a 150 Million buck budget. That is way too much for what is going to be a kid's movie with a franchise which most kids today, frankly, don't care too much about. and I don't think the nostaligia quotent for the adults is that high. This might have been a good bet at 50 to 60 Million bucks but not 150...and giving Bay's past it will probably end up costing more.
