Stikfas

I stopped buying toys years ago, but these little bastards are just too neat to resist. They're lots of fun to put together, and they actually make handy little drawing references, due to extreme poseability (and the ability to stay in a pose).

First that I'd heard of them.

Am I correct in looking at these?

Yes.

They're also remarkably inexpensive. I picked one up yesterday at a convention, a place of notorious price gouging, and got one of the deluxe sets (Omega Knight with Stallion) for ten bucks.

When I got my first ones about 4 years ago, I made some short stop motion films with a digital still camera and audio tracks taken from Kurosawa films. I lost them in a hard drive crash, and will forever regret it.

I'm still surprised I haven't seen more Stikfas animation on the web. THey're perfect for it.

Damn... these things are pretty cheap. My nephew would love these.

How tall are the basic figures?

3.5", yeah. They're about the size of the GI Joe figures we had as kids. They're extremely easy to put together, no knives or glue required. Though you may want to help a younger kid with them, particularly to shave some of the excess plastic off with a small file or an X-acto knife after breaking them out of the mold trays.

Awesome. Thanks for the info guys.

One more question... is there another place online where I can get these? Or is the official site the only place?

EDIT: Nevermind... seems like a lot of places have them. I'd like to get my nephew a ton of these for his birthday, so I guess I should ask if there is a place that has good deals on them?

You can find them from a lot of online retailers, fairly cheap. Amazon has a few links to other sellers.

The Assault Team Mega Pack looks like a perfect place to start him off.

I hadn't looked at the official page in ages. When I bought mine there was just the basic military guy, and maybe the fireman and samurai. There are some really cool later designs, like the big robot.

No kidding. I'm getting the spaceman for my nephew as a pre-emptive to the walker robot.

He's going to love these... I might pick up a few blister guys for myself as well.

I need to get more now, especially since the ones I bought for $10 or $12 years ago are now only $4.50. Might have to make time to make some new stop motion with these little bastards.

I've seen a few of my friends succumb to the addiction of Stikfas. It's a scary thing.

There's a bunch of websites where people modify these things and post them online. Some of them are pretty damng cool, actually. I didn't realize that they started making so many different kinds.... damn.... think the last one I saw was the Knight or something.

Well, two of these have my money.

Yes, those would be the ninjas.

I got him the Superhero set. Considering his love for all things Batman and Spider-Man (by me, of course), he should get a kick out of the pair.

Note: For removing the little leftover plastic nubbins from the pieces, nailclippers work extremely well.

Just reading this thread and checking out some of the sets online was enough to convince me to rush out and grab the Assault Team, Female Warrior w/Dragon, and Samurai stickfas today.. got a few charming callouses trying to pop some of those pieces into place, especially the tiny joints connecting the wing-pieces on the dragon.. but when it was all said and done i had a blast posing my army guys into a vicious battle against the Samurai and the Dragon riding 'lass..

Must..resist urge to buy more.. until next paycheck atleast.. ^-^

Thanks a lot, Brad. I had a couple of these years ago, and I managed to avoid succumbing to the urge long enough to forget about them. And then you had to come along and stir the shit up again. You're like the drinking buddy who shows up after the hero's been sober for two years and sends him right back into the gutter after he'd finally managed to clean up his life.

I like tortured metaphors.

The superhero set I got for my nephew should be here by the end of the week. He's going to love the pair, I just know it. Thanks!

Set for the nephew came in yesterday. Was so tempted to open it for myself...

Will be giving the set to him today after I take him to see Pirates 2. I have a good feeling I'm going to be his favorite person... at least for today.
