as far as the draft, shit is already going down in training camp. I love it!

Bush is holding out. Thomas Jones is injured. Chris brown wants a trade. Jerry Porter wants a trade. ITs going to be an interesting preseason.
There is talk of a Thomas Jones to Denver trade for Ashley Leliee

Last, huh? Well, I guess I don't have to worry about a Larry Johnson/Shaun Alexander decision.

I'm really looking forward to this. Every year the off season seems longer and longer.

I think it's what the two dice rolls came up to determine your draft order.

It was. The first die is the first number that was rolled and the second die was a tiebreaker. Lowest number gets first pick and highest number gets last pick.

Jeff, I think the last pick is the best, since you get back to back picks. First pick gets the best player and then has to wait 23 picks to get another one.

And the guy in the middle of the draft has to wait for ever to get a pick either way the order is snaking!!

If there is one thing fantasy football does not need, its another Denver platoon system.

yeah, but that particular first player is larry johnson or tomlinson, which means that half the points needed every week are more or less guaranteed. the last guy to pick, instead, gets to choose a couple of RBs among the likes of warrick dunn, chester taylor and ahman green. yay? not so much.

Upping the thread because it's less than a week before the draft. Woo Hoo! I'm making a night of it and getting a big sandwich, a case of beer, and inviting a buddy over to smack me in the balls when I think about picking a Detroit Lion.

I still have nightmares about what Kevin Jones did to me in CHUD last year.

Fortunatly I had LJ in my money league to replace the bum.
Well, if one is to look at preseason so far, he might see a lot more action this year. Still wouldn't chance it though.
Look at what Steven Jackson did in Mike Martz's offense and tell me Kevin Jones will be worth anything this year.
SJ did get 10 td's. If KJ gets that he's a solid 2nd back. I still wouldn't touch him.
Plus, word down here is that Marinelli wants to run a lot. Martz is the coordinator, but it's Marinelli's call.
Marinelli will probably tell Martz to run the ball more often then he did with the Rams but Martz will actually be calling the plays.

I have my first draft Friday night. I've hardly had time to prepare for it, and there's been so much turmoil with injuries and trades in the last week, I'm all flustered.

EDIT: Well, I think I'm ready to go. Just downloaded the latest rankings and set up my cheat sheets. T-minus 90 minutes! I did a mock draft in ESPN and got pick #11 (I'm pick 12 tonight), so I tried a little somethiing different, and it seemed to work well. It was hard to gauge considering 3-4 guys ended up being auto-picks, but I think I may try it tonight.

Ok, here's the team:

QB:
Marc Bulger
Chris Simms
Jake Plummer (I got distracted and fucked up and picked 2 QBs back to back)

RB:
Rudi Johnson
Warrick Dunn
Dominic Rhodes
Michael Pittman (RJ and WD both have byes on week 5)

WR:
Larry Fitzgerald
Darrell Jackson
Michael Clayton
Eric Moulds
Roddy White
Greg Jennings

TE:
Randy McMichael

K:
Sebastian Janikowski

D:
Cincinnati

Everytime I thought I was about to get a "sleeper", someone picked them. The sucky thing of being #12 on the draft board.
Can you post your first 2 rounds? Curious to see who went where. Scoring system too.
My bigest fantasy football wish has come true. After watching me obssess over it for seven years now, my wife decided to join her office money league this year, when she overheard a few of the guys talking FF.

Not knowing a thing about football, she asked if I could explain everything to her, because she feels compelled to beat her officemates at their own game. When I mean "everything", I mean that I had to explain what each position is, and their relative importance. I had to describe the QB position as "the guy who throws the ball....y'know, like Dan Marino".

We found out in advance that she snagged the 3rd pick out of a 12 team league. I armed her with cheat sheets seperated by position and instructed her to follow my fairly conservative drafting philosophy.

Anyways, long story short. For a 12 team league, she fucking killed. Check this out (starters in bold, 14 rounds & had to pick minimum of two in each position)

QB - Kurt Warner, Brett Favre
RB - LaDainian Tomlinson, Brian Westbrook, Chester Taylor
WR - Terrell Owens, Roy Williams, Javon Walker
TE - Tony Gonzalez, Kellen Winslow
K - Jeff Wilkins, (forgot backup)
DEF - Redskins & Packers

SIX QBs were taken in the first two rounds (nine by Round 3), even though the position is oddly neutered with 6 point passing TDs, but 1pt/40 passing yards. She called me a couple of times early on when the QB run started, thinking that she was missing out, but I convinced her to stick with "the system."

If her team does well, forever will FF dominate her destiny. It's already creating some funny situations. SHE'S nagging ME to order Sunday Ticket this year.

Wish her luck, guys.

Scoring is very similar to ours, except 4 pts for a thrown TD and 1 FP for every 30 yards passed. -1 for INTs, -2 for fumbles.

I think I'm going to drop Plummer and pick up Buckhalter as a 5th RB.

First Two Rounds (I'm pick #12). Keep in mind that HowBoutThemCowboys was on auto-draft the first 4 rounds, which I believe screwed me up the most.

Round 1

2. L. Johnson Mr. Bottlehands
3. L. Tomlinson Dawg Country
4. P. Manning PhillyPain
5. T. Barber Balco Bombers

8. L. Jordan Murky Lurkers
9. C. Palmer HowBoutDemCo...
10. C. Williams Hazzard Hoggs
11. S. Smith Lipstick Les...
12. R. Johnson BOS Steelers

Round 2
1. L. Fitzgerald BOS Steelers
2. C. Johnson Lipstick Les...
3. W. McGahee Hazzard Hoggs
4. T. Owens HowBoutDemCo...

Never follow runs, always start them. I hate 6 pts for passing td's. QB's can double every other player. But smart to tell her to follow the system.

TO is a bad pick though. I doubt the guy will be healthy enough to play enough games to matter. I like the team though. must be tons on waivers.
Larry Fitz was available early in the 3rd round when TO was picked, and he was probably the safer pick to make at that point.

Health-wise, I could be wrong, but it's not unusual for certain players to have "hamstring pulls" that keep them on the bench until opening day. Not a great situation for a WR in a new team/QB/system, but it's also hard to ignore Owens potential upside.

Then again, the list she was using had him ranked higher than Fitz. I confirmed that particular pick over the phone by advising her to stick with whatever was on there.

Good points, though.

more like saved you. This guy is destined for last place. I don't trust either of these guys. And I should say 2nd to last. The lipstick lesbos are going to be last. Steve Smith and Chad Johnson. WR are so unreliable year to year and to take 1 w/ a hammy and another with major QB problems is asking for trouble. Not to mention a lack of a stud RB.

Picking top 3 is key. Though I picked 11th(12) in my money leagu and still won(larry J).

CHUD draft is 4 days away.

Shoulda went fitz. I probably shouldn't bring this up before the draft but on ESPN said that Parcells has had only 1 WR w/ 10 td receptions in his career. Glenn with the Pats 1 year. Add that to the hammy and TO isn't looking too good.

How is that even possible?

Glenn's never caught 10 TDs in a season. Anyways, this is the kinda reasoning where people lose fantasy pools. Comparing TO to a guy like Lionel Manual is laughable.
sorry it was Keyshawn in 98.

A Super Bowl winning coach with 15+ years experience record of how he coaches is laughable? Trends are trends for a reason. And he hasn't had all dogs. Add that to the injuries of TO and he's a wasted pick.
He's never had a receiver with the skills of a TO. Not even close. So I suppose if Jerry Rice went to the Pats in '94 you'd say he couldn't snag 10 TDs with Parcells because at the time he never had anyone do it before? TO isn't Wayne Crebett, he's not Mark Ingram. He's a guy who has over 100 career receiving TD's (only 6 guys in the history of the game has done this!). The Giants receivers ate ass in Parcells entire tenure there. Glenn and Keyshawn were the only 2 guys he's ever had that were highly talented and both have had a lot of success with Parcells. The NFL is a different league then it was in 1988, what happened 20 years ago makes no bearings today. If TO plays 16 games he's gonna be at worst a top 10 fantasy receiver and to say he's a wasted pick is moronic. The only thing holding him back is his age and possible injuries. Bill Parcells track record with 2nd rate receivers isn't one.

Parcells knows you still need top defense and ball control offense to win. How well does that run and gun offens in Indy work? Great in the regular season. Not so much when it faces teams like Pitt.

Even with a top notch reciever at the time(KJ) he still only got 10 tds. Parcells still favors the running game and TE.

There are too many questions surrounding TO to draft him. Sure as a 7th rounder it's worth the risk, but you want your first few rounds not to have question marks.

TO playin 16 games is a big if. That hammy could go at any time. That or he won't be at full speed. I'll amend my statement. Draftimg him early is moronic. 7th round is a decent risk. Same with Carson Palmer.
I'm not denying his age and the chances of his hammy nagging all year long but saying "Parcells! Parcells!" is a retarded reason to proclaim TO as a wasted pick. TO is a special player. He isn't some run of the mill receiver.
I added the Parcells bit in addition to his injuries. It's a bad combo. Plus TO is already bitching.

The risk/reward with him is too high on the risk side. It was the same way last year. He was great for 6 games. Then whoever had him was fucked. The guy is as talented as anyone but you can't count on him. Injuries and attitude. The guy is a waste.
He was a waste last year. This is a different year. I don't think anybody is calling Terry Glenn a wasted pick after what happened with him in New England.
Had my first draft of the year last night, 2 of them actually. Both auto-draft, since I was at work for the draft time. (S'one more tonight, which I'll miss as well, and then Monday's for CHUD, which I'll also miss. Work Sucks.)

Anyway, here's the two. Starters bolded. First one's a Yahoo! league, second is NFL.com.

Team Zissou
QB - D. McNabb, M. Brunell
WR - L. Fitzgerald, J. Walker, D. Mason, A. Lelie, H. Baskett
RB - R. Johnson, D. Davis, T.J. Duckett, T. Bell, R. Dayne
TE - H. Miller
K - J. Brown
DEF - Carolina, Cincinnatti

Invisible College Anarchists
QB - K. Warner, B. Favre
WR - J. Waker, R. Williams, D. Jackson
RB - T. Barber, C. Williams, D. Foster, T.J. Duckett
TE - L.J. Smith, B. Watson
K - L. Tynes
DEF/ST - Philadelphia, Atlanta
The money league I play in is an auction draft, which plays holy hell with your prep -- draft order is meaningless, it's all about how much to bid for someone and when. We had one guy last year spend $150 of our $200 allotment on two players (a QB/WR hook-up), and then he had to sit and try to get 14 more players with only $50 to spend. I kinda miss the old draft format, but this one is certainly interesting. Plus we're making the move to a keeper format this year, so that'll throw another angle in.
Holy shit. The draft that ran last night (auto-draft for me, since I was at work) was effing weird. Dude took Tom Brady with the first pick, and #2 took Tiki Barber. I was slotted the fourth pick, and lucked out with Larry Johnson.

Seriously, though: Tom Brady?

My team:
Go Team Venture!
QB - T. Green, M. Brunell
RB - L. Johnson, R. Droughns, D. Foster, R. Dayne
WR - L. Fitzgerald, T. Owens, J. Walker, N. Burleson, I. Bruce
TE - A. Crumpler, B. Troupe
K - S. Graham, J. Wilkins
DEF - Pittsburgh

I'm shopping TO with Droughns, trying to get a better #2 running back and a mid-tier receiver,
post #139 of 145
Well, I had my first draft tonight. First, the league is now 7 years old. Only two owners have two championships, and I am one of them.

This year we changed things a lot.

First, we dumped all our keepers and made the league start fresh this year as a Total Keeper League. You draft them, you own them until you drop them or they die. From now on, our drafts will be rookie/free agent drafts.

Second, we expanded to 12 teams.

Third, we changed our positions - 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DT, 2 FLEX

I had the third pick, and Larry Johnson and Ladanian Tomlinson went one and two.

My first goal was to stack my team with players in the twenties, so I can have longivity. I planned on a couple of vets for short term but I wanted back ups to count on for the future.

Here is my team:

QB: Kurt Warner, Ben Roethlisberger and Aaron Rogers
RB: Shaun Alexander, DeShaun Foster, Corey Dillon, Mike Bell and Cedric Houston
WR: Torry Holt, Nate Burleson, Matt Jones, Jerry Porter and Rod Smith
TE: Todd Heap
K: Adam Viniteri
DT: Chargers and Falcons

I will drop The Falcons after week 3 and grab a kicker, drop him after week 6 and grab a tight end, and then drop him after week 7 and grab whatever rookie looks promising to carry from then on.
Well...lets get ready to rumble.

The CHUD draft is tomorrow night. It's weird looking at my Fantasy profile on yahoo (cool feature btw) that I have played a lot of Fantasy football.

Looking forward to another great year.
I'm probably going to have to auto-draft, there's no way I'll be able to finish a draft that starts at 11pm my time (gotta be up at 5 the following morning for work).
Definite auto-draft for me. Funny thing about my FF profiile is that I was considering changing my id here to my real name, but I use Sammy Jankis for all my FF stuff too. I didn't want my stats to reset, humble though they are, so I decided not to change anything.

It seemed the last few years to be the best time for everyone. It has been at either 8, 9 or 10 central the last three years. The only people in the past who had trouble with the times were the ones in Europe.

Our drafts have never lasted longer than 2 hours as long as almost everyone showed up for them.

And Dickson, you can draft the first rounds can't you and just autodraft the end with your pre-rankings?
Jason, could you please go ahead and lock up this thread so the two seperate leagues can go ahead and split up into their seperate smack talk threads?
