Goldeneye, 1080 and KI: Gold

Many a class was missed because my college buddies and I couldn't pull ourselves away from these.

Nonsense. This game was so bad it gave my dick the shits. The controls were dreadful and, even though it looked pretty, the framerate wasn't terribly consistant.

Jeez, this thread brought back a bunch of memories...

Listed in no particular order:

Wave Race 64- at the time the graphics were unbelievable and those wave physics just kicked ass. And it was a pretty ace racing game once you mastered it

PilotWings 64 - picked up this game for free.. ended up really enjoying it.. one I plan of revisiting some day..

1080 - really felt like a snowboarding sim rather than one of those over the top trick based snowboarding games at the time. Spiritual sequel to waverace in snowboarding form.

GoldenEye - When it came out it fucking blew me away.. Being able to shoot people in the head, arms and balls and being able to see proper death/reaction animations was something I'd been waiting for since Doom first came out. The missions were ace, and the multiplayer was awesome fun. Loved to spawn camp and take out people in the facility toilet.. with a proximity mine. Never got old. Also playing this game made GoldenEye the movie ten times more enjoyable.

MarioKart 64 - brilliant multiplayer..

San FranCisco Rush 64 - Looked like shit and initially played like shit.. but once you got used the cars controls and discovered short cuts.. fuck it kick ass.

Mario 64 - Great game. Period.

Mace The Dark Age - Almost looked as good as the arcade version (which at the time looked pretty fuckin good) was choppy as hell, and was really a 2d fighter dressed up as a 3d one.. but there was something about the characters, their storylines and the fatalities that made this the most play 64 fighting game (not a huge selection, I know, plus I was hankerin for something tekken like, this satisfied me)

Bomberman 64 (multiplayer ONLY)- For some reason My friends and I had ball with this. The fact that you became a ghost bomber man when u died and could go a fuckup live players made it all the more fun.

Shadowman - I remember the load times.. and it was pretty much mario 64 with a voodoo theme and anus doors.. but I really enjoyed playin thru this game.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS-

zelda ocarina of time - Never finished it but was pretty cool .. one I will have to go back and finish someday

Fighters Destiny - I wanted Tekken 64 so bad.. this came close.. but no cigar.

Beetle Adventure racing - lotsa multiplayer fun on that one

Mario Tennis

Perfect Dark - In many ways better than bond.. but bond was special cuz it came first.

Goldeneye and Perfect Dark are always going to stand out as the N64's FPS prime standards, but I'm surprised the original Turok isn't getting much love...it was a cult favorite of the adult N64 players I knew. Great levels (anyone who played the Catacombs and didn't get creeped out is truly a badass), nicely rendered w/decent framerates, and a cyborg T-Rex!! Of course, Turok 2 was pure shite so that may color the legacy a tad.

Waverace 64 was the first racing game I was ever interested enough in to master (then I became a Gran Turismo junkie). Truly an awesome game with water effects to match. For some reason I can't seem to work up the same interest in Waverace: Bluestorm for GC.

I always thought Turok 2 was way better. Cooler guns, better gore, and there wasn't an endless sea of fog.

Bust-a-Move and Tetrisphere.

Wayne Gretzky 3-D hockey. They still haven't made a more entertaining hockey game.

Ah, the N64 - So many great memories with that system. A few of my faves:

1) Jet Force Gemini: Unique, beautiful visuals, startlingly well-composed music, and staggeringly big levels make this one the shiniest gem on the system. Lupus is also one of the coolest characters ever - Love the hover paws.

2) Zelda: Majora's Mask: Spooky and difficult, but a welcome deviation off the map for the series. Surprisingly downbeat, but incredibly satisfying.

3) Turok 3: This game gets a lot of negative press, which I can understand to a certain extent, as it feels more like Half Life than a true Turok sequel - But it's got my favorite level design in any N64 FPS.

4) ExciteBike 64: Frustrating and hard as hell, but still a lot of fun - The sense of gravity made for some excellent jumps.

5) Vigilante 8: Glitchy but endlessly fun - With well designed levels and funky tunes. 2nd Offense was cool, but the controls felt too slippery.

6) Pokemon Snap: Yeah, I said it. Nothing like throwing gas balls at Pikachu and taking a snapshot of his pain.

Thats its next pay check a smoke grey clear N64 will be mine.

Turok 2, was to me better than the first as well, I though it got good reviews when it came out?

I just find it funny that considering the view of it when it came out, and the view still exist today towards the 64, that Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, and GoldenEye are still ranked so often in top 5 polls
