In fact, they're going to be releasing both Season One and Season Two of the series together at the same time (as you may recall, Season One was briefly available a few years ago from Artisan). Yes, David Lynch himself is involved and yes, there's going to be some very cool, all-new special features. We've actually known this was happening for many months now, but had been cautioned to keep it on the down-low, given what's happened with Lynch DVD projects in the past (think Universal's Dune: Special Edition and the it-almost-happened Criterion release of Eraserhead). But things are more solid now and work is well underway, so there you go. The set is still TBA here in the States, but it's due on 11/2 in Australia, so you can assume its R1 street date will be sometime around then as well. Here's a little look-see at some artwork Paramount is preparing related to the DVD release...

Sounds like this thing may finally come out!

I bought season one when it came out, but have never seen season two. I have a feeling I'm in for a good time if this ever comes out. Now I just wish Lynch would get Lost Highway out on DVD.

This is great news. The unavailability of Season 2 of Twin Peaks on disc has been one of the great oversights of the DVD age.

There are three good Lost Highway discs in R2 from the UK, France and Germany.

Season Two of Peaks is very much a hit and miss affair. The first few episodes are incredible, as are some of the last few. In the middle is a hell of a lot of filler that resulted when they tried to figure out where the series should go. Each episod has good material, but there are two or three storylines that you can just fast forward through.

Great news, though. I can't wait to brush my teeth again.

I agree, easily three-quarters of TP:S2 is disposable. On the plus side: the Giant, the Bellhop, and Lynch himself as Cooper's boss. That's the first couple eps.

From there it's an endless succession of soft-spoken gray-haired psychos in business suits, some genuinely repellent violence, waaay too much screen time for the Log Lady, some goddamn UFO bullshit, and a notable absence of cherry pie. The biggest misstep is that we no longer have the running commentary of the goofy TV soap opera: TP actually turned into the thing it was lampooning.

Lynch's portrayal of hopelessly deaf FBI Regional Bureau Chief Gordon Cole is definitely one of the highlights of the season.

Quote:
Gordon: HOLY SMOKES! WHO IS THAT?
Cooper: Shelly Johnson.
[Gordon motions he didn't hear]
Cooper: SHELLY JOHNSON.
Gordon: WHAT A BEAUTY! KINDA REMINDS ME OF THAT STATUE, THE BABE WITHOUT THE ARMS.
Cooper: Venus de Milo.
Gordon: THE NAME WAS MILO, BUT THAT'S BESIDE THE POINT. THAT'S THE KIND OF GIRL THAT MAKES YOU WISH YOU SPOKE A LITTLE FRENCH. 'SCUSE ME COOP WHILE I TRY MY HAND AT A LITTLE COUNTER-ESPERANTO.
Gordon: Good luck, Gordon.
Gordon: HELLO. I WAS WONDERING IF I MIGHT TROUBLE YOU FOR A CUP OF STRONG BLACK COFFEE AND IN THE PROCESS ENGAGE YOU WITH AN ANECDOTE OF NO SMALL AMUSEMENT. THE NAME IS GORDON COLE AND I COULDN'T HELP BUT NOTICE YOU FROM THE BOOTH. AND .. WELL, SEEING YOUR BEAUTY NOW I FEEL AS THOUGH MY STOMACH IS FILLED WITH A TEAM OF BUMBLEBEES.

James journey outside of Twin Peaks was the worst storyline in TV history. Lynch and Frost had to be on vacation.

Great news. I had heard from friends that the second season was hit or miss, but I still look forward to watching it. Having seen the movie Fire Walk With Me (same friends told me to wait for the seconf season to be released, but I gave up hope of that), I wonder how much viewing the second helps. At least as several characters popped up that I did know who they were.

The show was ahead of its time. It would have worked much better on cable where it could have benefitted from more focused, 12-ep seasons.

Season 2 of Twin Peaks, despite its good moments, was a mess.

I miss this show with every fibre of my being...it was the ONE program I was guaranteed to watch every week; complete with a group of like-minded pals, coffie (with Kahlua) and heaps of apple/cherry pie and vanilla ice-cream. It kept me away from the pubs the night it was on!

The second series really lost momentum once Palmer's murderer was discovered...it never really seemed to know where to go, but the final episode really got me piqued for a 'true' final episode or two that never happened...so now I've got to make do with "How's Annie? How's Annie?" as the final scene...which I'm not TOO disappointed by...

...but I'm SURE Lynch had an idea for a proper ending...(wait...who am I kidding?).

I'll be buying this if it ever comes out though...
(and probably double-dipping the entire first series...BASTARDS!!!)

Paramount has a real high water mark to match with these sets. Artisan's box set is still a defining TV on DVD presentation. It's gorgeous. (Especially compared to the shitty laser releases.) If they include the pilot (both endings!) in the first season I'll double dip. Otherwise, no way.

And while James, Donna and Nadine's stories are all excerable, season two bears mention for having the only Heather Graham performance I can stand. (And she's not even very good.)

Truer words have never been said.

I read that Lynch/Frost did not want to reveal the killer, but the TV studio guys wanted them to do it. The studio guys thought if they did not, then the audience would feel cheated or something. All my friends who watched the second season said the show lost steam when it revealed the killer.

I heard the same rumor about the studio pressuring Lynch and Frost. I still enjoy the 2nd season. But then again maybe I need to watch it again.

So will we get the pilot with Season 1 or is ownership still tied up? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

ABC made them reveal the killer. The shows ratings were going down and fast.
They should not have revealed the killer, but I guess when the boat is sinking you grab anything you think might float. They definelty had no master plot plans for this series, as evidenced by them throwing everything they could in the season one cliffhanger. On the first series dvd, I believe Frost mentions that they had no clue to how all the cliffhangers would turn out. I not sure if the writing by the seat of their pantrs made the first season fun, or it was the ultimate reason the series failed (or both). Still I will be buying season two when it comes out.

I wish Frost had followed through on his promise to write a few Twin Peaks novels to finish up the story.

Watching Season One, it became apparent to me early on that if Laura's murder was solved the show would be over. Apparently the network missed the joke, though Saturday Night Live nailed it.

If anyone is listening, the best (and most likely unattainable) extra would be the Seasame Street sketch: Twin Beaks.

While novels set in the Twin Peaks world would be interesting, I think they would lose a lot of the charm of the show.

What I would like to see is the other parts of Fire Walk With Me. I remember reading that Lynch basically ended up with two movies. One focusing on Laura Palmer and one on the rest of the characters. I would like to see that other footage package and edited up.

A very good tv show, and if I might say so a pretty good second season, although there was a lot of filler. I particularly liked the scenes that David Lynch had with Madchen Amick. Really funny. "I heard that."

I was 7 when I saw the final episodes in june of 1991, and I remember hating the ending. I still do, even though now I know that this was Lynch's fuck you to ABC, along with all of these plots that just ended open, spoilers: Audrey in the bank explosion with Pete and Andrew, Ben's revelation to Donna and his subsequent beating by Doc Hayward. I read somewhere that Frost and MacLachlan want to do another film that would close up Cooper's storyline. I hope so, because there should be an ending. Just ending it that way was so wrong.

On a side note, at least we got David Duchovny pre-X-files, as a cross dressing DEA agent. I wonder why there were never any references to this in the x-files. that would have been funny.

I was able to purchase all of the tapes that I needed that have both seasons, and even the pilot from several hollwood videos, since H-video is selling all of their tapes. At only 3.25 a pop, I got a real bargain, so I'll definitely be picking up both seasons on dvd.

Not novels exactly, I know, but...

The Diary of Laura Palmer was nothing special, but My Life, My Tapes by 'Dale Cooper' was pretty freakin' great. There was also (of course) and audiobook version. That would be another excellent extra. I also wouldn't mind a revamped version of Laura's diaries that reflected the much darker and harshly realistic tone of FWWM.

From what I've read, 'two movies' is an exaggeration. But the verison that debuted at Cannes to utterly dismal response did have a lot more of the other characters. There's a script floating around that will give you the general idea. Some of the stuff is amazingly cool, and would be wonderful to see.

The French label that put out Lost Highway has been trying for a dog's age to get clearance to put all that material on a delux FWWM disc, but nothing has ever come of it. I remember a point where Lynch said that if someone would pay for him to bring those materials up to spec, quality wise, he'd do it, but that never happened. And that was YEARS ago.

Thanks for revealing season 2's cliffhangers. Now I can save my money. On a serious note, I beleive they wrote that episode just like the first season. They hoped with all the cliffhangers, it could lead to another season (in this case tv movies) to finish it out.

I blacked out the spoilers, so if you want to know highlight them, if not that's ok. I wasn't thinking. Don't want to spoil too much for anyone who hasn't seen the second season.

It's been over 10 years. I think we're past the statute of limitations on this one.
