Huh? A "Black Christmas" remake?

Accidently stumbled across this IMDB listing - Black Christmas (2006)

Yet another classic horror ripoff in the works. This allegedly at least has an "R" rating, although I doubt my unnatural fixation with Michelle Trachtenberg will be rewarded with any gratituous shower sequences.

Now I am a fan of the original, but as one of the major hooks was (Semi-Spoiler Alert!) the fact that the killer was calling from inside the sorierty, this falls under the same ridiculous situation as "When a Stranger Calls". The original "Black Christmas" can at least claim it originated using that urban legend (the original "When a Stranger Calls came several years after it), it still doesn't hold up as a meaningful plot device technology-wise in this day and age.

I just can't see this having much to offer.

If they didn't hinge the entire thing on "He's inside the house!" it might be nice. Those fraternity and sorority houses can be HUGE, so make that like a half-way reveal and make the last half of the movie an intensely claustrophobic killfest. Obviously THAT'S been done too, but, if done well, it can be done again.

Yeah, I'd watch that.

Be honest, you'd watch it no matter what.

This is true.

Yeah man, it was announced around a year ago. Greg did the most recent piece on it here- http://www.creature-corner.com/?type=news&id=1278

Bob Clark (not the Chewer!) is producing, so maybe he can get it going the right way. They're also remaking Clark's Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things- he's directing himself, which I find very weird.

If and when that happens my squeal of delight will shatter the internet.

I don't know why you would find that weird. Hitchcock twice directed The Man Who Knew Too Much. I'm sure there are other examples of directors remaking their own films (in the literal sense, not in the creatively-bankrupt sense).

The Vanishing.

And Haneke is helming the Funny Games remake.

Haneke is remaking Funny Games? Wow. I'm not one of those people who gets pissy about remakes (and I'm certainly not mad about this one), but this just doesn't seem like the type of movie that would succeed in the states. It's just way too bleak.

Wasn't the director of the American version of The Grudge the same director who made the original?

How did I miss that? Those photos just depressed me more, as another of my semi-Pediophiliac fixations (with Lacey Chabert) will go probably go unsatisfied as well.

That I did see. The original had my all time favorite film zombies, so I'm actually interested in seeing what Clark can do with a budget. His non horror films though don't speak well for him (Rhinstone, Baby Geniuses) so the overwrought term "cautiously optmistic" comes into play.

I know it's been done, I just find it very strange. I guess a director can look at his film and see places to improve it and polish it and all, but... I don't know. You'd think a new director would bring a different perspective to things and make it more interesting.

Although I do think the remake of The Man Who Knew Too Much is better....

That dude has done nothing except make Grudge movies (except Maribito)

I tried to sum it up way back here, but basically that guy's made the same film 7 times.
