Any fantasy player worth his salt would know Jerrious Norwood is the nest man in line for Atl carries.

This is Vick's last stand. If he doesn't live up to the hype this year, he is DONE.

Not really defending him. Just letting you know he's done a good job so far and that you sound a tad bit impatient towards him.

I really have to laugh at Josh McCown. The Raiders offered him a contract, that more then likely would've landed him the starting job, but he nixed them instead to sign with the Lions. His reasoning was he was convinced the Raiders would draft a qb in the 1st round of the upcoming draft. What happened? The Raiders drafted Michael Huff and McCown has dropped to third on the Lions depth chart. Nice move McCown! Oh and how about those preseason defensive superstar Oakland Raiders?

I know a lot of people are pissed off about The NFL Network showing a Thanksgiving Day game and the late season Saturday Night Games, due to the lack of available for the network. Anyways, for the people who don't have the channel and want to view the games there's this P2P program called SopCast that streams The NFL Network. It's not always available but from what I've read it shows up during games. For example the Ravens/Vikings game just aired on tape delay a few hours ago and it was available to view and currently the tape delay of the Raiders/Lions is airing now. There only seems to be a few minute delay from what is happening on live tv because on my tv the Raiders game is 2 min into the 3rd quarter while on the SopCast feed, the halftime kickoff just started. Obviously the quality will depend on your computer and internet service. People should definitely check it out. The NFL Network shows every preseason game either live or on tape delay (besides what airs nationally).

There's another program called TVU Player that has ESPN/ESPN2/HBO available to view live. So I guess Canadians or anyone outside of America can check that out if they wanna catch an extra basketball/college game. These programs also shows CBS and other networks so maybe people could catch an extra game from whatever city's feed the program shows. Anyone who's into soccer, it supposedly shows quite a bit of that too.

Thanks for the tips. I've never been able to get Sopcast to work. Is that a new edition?

What I really need to do is buy a Slingbox for my cousin in Miami.

The whole fight between cable and the NFL is like trying to figure out who to root for in a Hitler/Stalin death match.

But the NFL's decision to air games on their network is a brilliant business move - people WILL demand their cable companies carry the channel, football is worshipped more than God in the US these days.

I think I'm just impatient for the real games to begin - without getting into any sort of argument, the media hereabouts has been pumping him up since mini-camps (and probably rightly so) and I didn't see him do much until late in the Falcons game - so I've been hearing about how great he is for 3 months without seeing anything myself. You're correct that his week 1 numbers were solid and he did VERY well vs the Falcons.

Still, I'd be surprised if he doesn't threaten Sharpe's Packer rookie record for catches (55).

Jeff George just signed with the Oakland Raiders. I'd give more details, but I to go and prepare for the impending apocolypse.
I presume from the lack of discussion here that it pretty much a given that the T.O./Cowboys marraige will not be a happy one for Dallas?
Hopefully this will be the last team that will try to "reform" Owens.
As for the Jeff George signing, what can you expect from Al Davis?

I am curious to see what new balding pattern Jeff George will be showcasing.

Stuber Picks 'Em Week 4 PRESEASON

Hey fellas,

I figure I'd dust off the cobwebs a bit and make some shitty predictions of the most meaningless slate of NFL match-ups of the year. Let's see what is in store, shall we?

Buffalo at Detroit... I was hoping that Craig Nall would win the QB job over Losman. He didn't. So fuck the Bills.
Carolina at Pittsburgh... I think this could be a Title game preview. No one seems to like Pitt getting back, well neither do I, but it could be.
Jacksonville at Atlanta... Gee, I don't know. Probably the two best No. 2 QBs in the league playing in this game. Go Garrard.
New England at N.Y. Giants... I have the G-Men being the weakest link in the NFC East this year. So they'll win this worthless game.
St. Louis at Miami... I can't remember the new Rams Coach's name. Is it Steve Isuckatcoaching?
Baltimore at Washington... I saw the Ravens lose to the Vikings last week at the Dome. McNair looks to get injured right on schedule this year.
Chicago at Cleveland... Uggh, these are such worthless games. What amI doing? Let's go with Romeo.
Minnesota at Dallas... I was hoping T.O. will play tonight. Not likely.
Tampa Bay at Houston... Just for the rumors that Domanick Davis was going to get cut, the Texans lose.
New Orleans at Kansas City... Some people like the Chiefs this year. Not me. Woo. Hoo. They'll still win.
Denver at Arizona... I think Leinart will show up Cutler in this one. Just for shits.
Oakland at Seattle... How can you not root for Jeff George??!
Tennessee at Green Bay... Fucking suck fuckers! This year is to going to kill me.
Cincinnati at Indianapolis... Get your shit together, Indianapolis.
Philadelphia at N.Y. Jets... I think the Jets might be a surprise wildcard contender. So that means they lose tonight.
San Diego at San Francisco... They should play this game with medicine balls to convey the knowledge that it's a pointless game.

For the record: I don't think pre-season as a whole is worthless. To have anything less than 4 games for young guys to try and make a team is silly and unfair to hopefuls. 4 games is the least to do. But I also think that players should be allowed to show up to camp a little out of shape. That way, you'll see harder work. Vets show up in July ready to play Sept.'s Week 1. And then we wonder why they get annoyed with cone drills and grab-ass w/ rookies.

Richard... while I'm thinking about it, you might want to join our Pick'em league if you haven't already.

Deal helper: Volek would waive no-trade clause

Story

Quote:
Likely to soon be bumped from the top spot on the depth chart, probably by the Sept. 10 regular-season opener, Tennessee Titans quarterback Billy Volek will waive the no-trade clause in his contract to facilitate a move to another NFL team.

Expected to supplant the departed Steve McNair as the Tennessee starter, Volek has been rendered all but extraneous by the Monday signing of veteran quarterback Kerry Collins to a one-year deal. In what has been a cram course to get Collins practice time, and to accelerate his learning curve in a new offense, Volek has seen his snaps reduced this week.

There is a possibility that Volek won't accompany the Titans to Green Bay for the Friday preseason finale.

Volek and agent Drew Rosenhaus have declined to answer questions about whether they have requested that general manager Floyd Reese trade the six-year veteran. People close to Volek, however, said this week that he has acknowledged that he will not be on the roster for the start of the season.

Teams must reduce their rosters to the regular-season limit of 53 players by Saturday at 4 p.m. ET.

In discussing trade possibilities in general, Reese conceded that Volek's name has "come up." The no-trade clause was part of the four-year contract Volek signed in March 2004.

There figures to be a healthy market for Volek, who has been regarded as one of the NFL's top backups for the last several years, but who failed to secure the confidence of the Tennessee coaching staff in camp or in the preseason. Among the several teams which might be interested in adding Volek, whose resume includes 10 starts, are San Diego and Cleveland.

The Chargers don't have a quarterback on their current roster with even one regular-season start and the Browns' depth situation behind starter Charlie Frye is tenuous. Those clubs could be attractive to Volek as well, because he might have an opportunity to get some starts this year if either Frye or Philip Rivers of San Diego struggles during the season.

Some teams might balk at trading for Volek and gamble that the Titans will release him outright. But if that occurs, Volek will become a free agent, able to sign with anyone, and the number of franchises bidding for him figures to increase. Trading for him would allow a team to inherit his contract, which has two seasons remaining, at palatable prices.

Volek, 30, has completed 312 of 517 passes for 3,505 yards, with 26 touchdown passes, 13 interceptions and a career passer rating of 86.9 in 24 appearances.

I'm not sure what I would want to give up, but I would love for Volek to come to Cleveland. I'm not sold on Frye, and the Browns have no one behind him, so maybe they'll take Lee Suggs off their hands (not that they need another injury prone RB to add to the mix - but I can hope, right?)

Profootballtalk has a pretty interesting look at the Volek fiasco.

Quote:
VOLEK WILL WAIVE NO-TRADE CLAUSE (DUH)

Let's see. . . . quarterback Billy Volek was the presumptive opening-day starter for the Titans. On Monday, the Titans suddenly and surprisingly signed Kerry Collins, paying him more than Volek for 2006. Instantly, Volek's reps with the first-team were cut, and Volek wasn't happy about it.

So now Len Pasquarelli of ESPN.com reports Volek will waive the no-trade clause contained in his contract.

Our official reaction: "No sh-t."

This "story" is, in our estimation, yet another thinly-veiled effort by Pasquarelli to help out yet another of the agents who have him on speed dial whenever there's yet another nugget of news to be spoon fed to the media.

This time, the agent isn't Joel Segal. It's Drew Rosenhaus. But the goal for Volek is the same that it was for Todd Pinkston: To get a player traded at his seven-figure salary so that he won't end up having to take a one-year deal for the minimum.

In this case, Len predicts that there will be a "healthy market" for Volek's services, but Len also suggests that Volek might be released by the Titans.

Inconsistent? Not at all.

Writes Len, regarding the possibility that Volek will be cut: "[I]f that occurs, Volek will become a free agent, able to sign with anyone, and the number of franchises bidding for him figures to increase. Trading for him would allow a team to inherit his contract, which has two seasons remaining, at palatable prices."

So if Volek can make more money via a bidding war, why in the hell would Volek waive the no-trade clause? He'd be smarter to dig in his heels and force the Titans to keep him (and pay him $1 million) or cut him (and let him make more elsewhere).

But we believe that Rosenhaus fears Volek won't make $1 million this year via the open market, and that Rosenhaus persuaded Len to do him a favor by cobbling together a story that possibly facilitates a trade.

So Len gets a two-for-one. He has some Thursday afternoon "news" -- and now Drew owes him a favor.

I don't think preseason is pointless for the teams, but I wish they could somehow make it interesting for the fans. If only something were at stake that would make the teams really want to win.

you and Bud Selig can go think up something truly stupid together. Preseason primarily serves as the measuring stick for franchises. That's stake enough for me.

ESPN Power Rankings this week get pretty hilarious when scrolling down to the bottom

"If the Bills are going to be competitive, they need Willis McGahee to be as good as he thinks he is."

That's awesome. They should add "...as good as he and Drew Rosenhaus both think he is."

And man, what the hell does God have against Big Ben? First the motorcycle wreck, then an emergency appendectomy. Geez.

Power rankings are a nice basis for discussion, but about as meaningful as the AP poll should be.

Still, nice to see ESPN point out that the Steelers, while being a damn good team and legit contender to repeat, aren't the best on paper going into the season. Sportsline showed no such grapes.
