The 2006 NFL Preseason Thread - Page 2

No running back on their roster is going to do that, so why worry about something so trivial?

The Saints play there first preseason game vs. The Titans tonight. Deuce will not play, although he would if it was a real game. REGGIE BUSH will start in his stead. Drew Brees and other starters will play maybe a quarter. Our OLine is banged up...our 2 starting Guards will not play, and we don't have a starter at RT yet so...

I'm also very interested to see Vince Young shred our backups.

Vince Young didn't shred anything, except almost his ankle. And what was that pitch into the end zone when he got it twisted? Man, he's got a lot of work to be NFL ready. However, Reggie Bush was outstanding. I can't wait to see Bush and Deuce in the same backfield
post #54 of 121
bush definitely impressed. I have to say that I don't feel as worried drafting him in a fantasy league after seeing that...but it was only preseason.

The most surprising thing so far for me is how friggin polished Phillip Rivers looked. The guy was throwing like a veteran.
I would hazard San Diego has lost 3rd down back/return specialist Darren Sproles for the season - his ankle got bent around pretty bad in the game Saturday.
Geez, Bush made one play. One play! Settle down on the love. Vince Young made as many plays last night as he did. It's not surprising Bush busted one off. It's his game. Can he hold up to the punishment of carries is the only real question towards him. 6 carries doesn't prove this.

Reports are saying Portis separated his shoulder in tonight's game.
Sproles reportedly only has a sprain, which surprised me, the injury looked freakin' brutal.

What's the deal with McPherson (the Saints' backup QB) that I read? An article said he got run over by the Titan mascot in a golf cart! Was that on television?

Especially early in the very first pre-season game of the year. Once defenses learn to play him like Vick (stay at home, cover your area, not the player), you won't see too many more of those.

What's the word on Priest Holmes? Do they think he's coming back for the beginning of the season?
Thread Starter
Everything I hear on Priest Holmes has indicated that he is done. For good.

And no, the McPhereson thing was not on TV. He was struck by the Mascot's golf cart coming in for halftime. He fell to the ground clutching his knee, but it was only a bad bruise. Only the Saints man, only the Saints.

We realize it was only preseason game 1 for Bush, but it was the kind of thing he did in college, and to see him do it in the Pros, even if its only preseason, was exciting.
Priest is done which sucks but great for FF. Portis could be a problem though.

Anyone who watched the Bears game knows Grossman has to perform the next 2 weeks or the fans will call for his head. He looked like shit while Griese was impressive. He's no Elway, but the Bears only need a competant passer who can get 200+ yards a game in the air and make the other defenses respect the pass.

So is Bush really gonna start? is Deuce done there? Or will they just split?

I think tv cameras didn't catch it, but I've been searching. Only the Saints.

Portis is done for the pre-season and I'd be worried about the first game of the season. As some have mentioned above, it helps the comedy of fantasy football drafts as more people will be more likely dare themselves into taking Tiki Barber with the fourth pick and spend the next four months developing ulcers.

As for Deuce and Bush, from what I have read the plan is for them to split, with Deuce taking much of the load (HA!).
Tiki is great if you have catches + 1 pt every 10 yards rush/rec. But they never give him the ball near the end zone. Quality number 2 guy though.

If you develop ulcers over ff, you're a fucking moron.
Not if you're in a $1000 per team league or develop comedic ulcers.

I know this sounds old cranking-manish, but ESPN's scoreboard for MNF sort of bothers me.

There's one glaring difference between Bush and Vick, one can actually play their position while the other can't.
I have to say, Theisman is a lot less annoying without McGuire antagonising him every five minutes.

Everyone keeps talking about how annoying this MNF crew would be...and I'm not annoyed right now.

Completely agree. Kornheiser has been much more subdued than he is on his radio show or PTI, but still entertaining.
Kornheiser has been very informative and still finding ways to inject his opinions without using his regular schtick. I'm enjoying the broadcast a lot more than I thought I would.
I don't really like the crew but they're not nearly as annoying as the old Sunday Night Crew (Mcguire and Patrick were fucking terrible). Hopefully the comparisons of Kornheiser and Miller will end. Kornheiser is pretty layed back tonight. I agree with Jcassady about the scoreboard layout. It's way too big and in a bad spot. Anyone else find it weird hearing the Monday Night theme music without Michaels voiceover?
I think once the season starts and all of the main players are participating that some life will be breathed into the new MFB crew. There's only so much one can say about the rookies/2nd/3rd string players out there after the 1st half.
I like the centered score/stat graphic on the MNF broadcast, but they could make the text a little bit larger...
Looks like Leinart finally signed. I heard a Denny Green clip today on NFL Radio, and he sounded like he had pretty much had it with Leinart holding out.
Go Raiders!

That is all.
People are ripping the new MNF team and I really don't know why. Our local morning radio guy was talking about how "John Lennon's not going to be stopping by any time soon" and "Cosell must be rolling over in his grave." Well you know what? I don't want a circus in the booth that makes the game secondary to the antics of the announcers. I want two or three football-smart guys talking about football, and that's exactly what we got.
I agree. The MNF team is going to do a good job and let the action on the field speak for itself.

That's the one thing I couldn't stand about the broadcast. I thought the threesome worked, and once they get a few weeks under their belt - they will be fine.

But, and maybe it's because I'm used to the corners, I got so annoyed at the center display. It kept looking like a guard over the ref's crotch when he would make his penalty calls.

However, ESPN's HD quality was astounding. That display looked like it was freaking floating, almost 3-D like.
I can't believe there are guys in here who thought that MNF team was "smart". Kornheiser alone was like nails on a chalkboard. Bullshit esoterica, constant disagreement simply for the sake of disagreement, and constant self-congratulatory masturbation. The play-by-play man was fine, but overall I thought it sucked monkey balls.

I think Mike Tirico (who does PBP) is very good. Theisman is .. well is Theisman. He has some good insight about the game, so it works. I like Tony, but I coud see how some might not like his sometimes snarky attitude. I love, though, the email segment - just seemed to work.

A good calling team shouldn't make you watch the game, just not turn it off if the game sucks.
Tirico is amatuer hour for a networks leading play by play man.

Junior Seau is looking to have the shortest retirement in NFL history. He's set to sign with the Pats later today. Seau should've retired 5 years ago. It's painful watching how crummy he's become.

I'm really digging the new graphics for FOX football. Nice and clean.

Other than the fact that I felt like they needed to move it up an inch, I raelly did like it.

I disagree. I'm not saying he's the best PBP guy ever, but I think he is a lot better almost every B, C, &D team for Fox and CBS and right up there with a couple of the A-teams.

Yeah, I thought it was odd that it wasn't flush against the top of the screen, especially in HD.

Exactly. In HD, you could see the helmets and such of the players with a grey shading over them, which serves no purpose. Ohh, and I lvoe the four dots for each quarter.
Wow, Green Bay looked like a COMPLETELY different team last night.

They did very well vs the Falcons 1st string (Vick was pulled at 1 quarter, but Schaub doesn't suck and is arguably a better passing threat) and their subs CRUSHED the Falcons' subs.

Driver was absolutely phenomenal, Favre looked solid; Jennings finally made some plays, the OL seemed to have solved its week 1 issues for the most part, though their running game struggled big-time early on, which is troubling.

The real question is which team shows up next week.
Complete turnaround. They were pathetic against the Chargers. Actually, calling them pathetic towards that performance is an understatement.

"Jennings finally made some plays"? Impatient are we? I thought Greg Jennings was the rookie everybody in Packerland is going totally apeshit over and it only took him about 15 snaps into his preseason career to bust off a 85 yard TD.
I hope the Rams do some good this year and that Bulger stays healthy. That is all.

I hope he makes lots of plays, as I drafted him on my Dynasty Fantasy league. Right in front of a big Packer fan as well. He was pissed.

And the Falcons' defensive backups look as bad as the defense looked last year. I have a feeling this season may be as bad as last year. My buddy is taking me to the Steelers/Falcons game for my birthday. Can't wait to throw on the black and gold, and if it's anything like it was a few years back, at least half of the Georgia Dome will be Steelers' fans.

MNF tonight is Saints vs Cowboys in Shreveport, Louisiana. Shreveport is more Cowboy country than Saints, so it should be a large Dallas crowd there.

TO won't play (enjoy that stationary bike!).

Deuce however, will play tonight. I'm very interested to see how tentative he is coming back from that ACL injury. He's supposedly got a lot of burst back, and the knee isn't swelling anymore, but we shall see. I would imagine you will see a lot of Bush as well.

And Sean Payton was on Parcells' staff for 3 years, so it will be interesting to see if he does anything "special" with that offense to show up his old mentor. Doubtful, since its preseason, but Roy Williams, S for the Cowboys is the one who brought it up so...

Jennings was having issues translating his practice-field success into game situations.

Wow. The Saints look dreadful. It could be a long year. I have my season tickets, but at least I have 60 friends and acquaintances with me, an entire section in the revamped Dome, and most importantly there will be lots and lots and lots of Dome Foam. We'll need it.

In his first career pre-season game he had 4 catches for 68 yards (which is good) and then in his 2nd game he scored on a 85 yard TD. He currently leads the pre-season in receiving. That isn't finally producing or having issues in game situations.
I liked the previous ESPN Sunday Night NFL broadcast team MUCH better than the current MNF trio. Ironic since Theismann has been part of both.
Things not going well in Bears camp. The players hate Cedrick Benson. They ratted him out to the media for leaving the game early. They want Thomas Jones starting and I don't think they want Benson at all.

I thought they tried to rough him up in preseason and it looks like they might have.
I'm sure it's known, but just not posted yet...

3-way trade between Atlanta, Denver, and Washington:

Atlanta sends TJ Duckett to Washington
Washington sends a 2007 3rd round pick to Denver
Denver sends Ashley Lelie to Atlanta

Interesting trade. Let's see how Lelie goes from being a 3rd WR to...a 3rd WR. And I guess Portis' shoulder injury is worse that suspected.
Good trade. I wonder how Duckett will do in Washington. Lelie could fade into oblivion in Atlanta but he could also shine and become the man if he steps it up.

Its gonna be an interesting year.

Eh, I didn't see the 2nd half of the first game - he had no impact when it mattered in that game.

Anyway, that said, I probably phrased that poorly. Since when do you defend Green Bay players?

Looks like Warrick Dunn's fantasy value just shot up a bit, now that Duckett won't be around to get all the goal line carries.
