Ohhhhh yeaaaaahhhh...

First next gen game, November 12th, it's going to be the tits.
If this game is so much as a hair short of stellar, the hype will eat it alive.

No demo before release

"Demos take a long time to create and polish and we can't afford to get derailled like that if we want to have the game in stores by Thanksgiving. Given a choice of the game this year or a demo this year and the game next year I'm sure every one of you would rather have the game this year because you're already planning to buy it. No idea if we'll do a demo or not after the game ships."
edit: I guess this means the game will suck balls....

Exactly like Halo 2. This is supposed to be THE game for the 360. They better not Brute Force all over themselves.
Second time I've seen this game likened to Brute Force today.

MS is mistaken if they think this game is a "system seller" kind of title.
The game looks unbelievable. I mean literally, I don't see how it's going to look as good as the screenshots/captures I've seen have made it appear.

Definitely on my "must-buy" list.
This is a 'must buy' for myself as well. I want to go nuts with it, so I hope it meets the hype.

I'm not really buying that "it takes too long to make a demo"......I believe there was a demo at E3.

I don't think the game will suck......However I do believe they are concerned about any possible negative reaction like a good chunk of 360 demos have gotten
post #11 of 46
Personally, I think the gameplay looks repetitive. I hope otherwise.

Well it is pretty much just another shooter.

Look at Prey........It was hyped beyond belief.....people talked about how original it was with it's gravity shifts and portals......in the end those original aspects we're pretty irrelevant.

I still find it hysterical that the game(Prey) that was hyped to the Nth degree and got glowing reviews is not even in the official top ten list of most played 360 XBL games.......While the game(Chromehounds) that was given little hype and buried by most reviews has been number 3(just behind COD2 and GRAW.

Don't get me wrong.......I like the look of what i've seen from GOW so far......But the whole first/third person shooter genre has been repetitive and unoriginal for some time now......10 years plus as the dominate gametype is long enough......Time for developers to come up with something new.
I like what I've been hearing about the cooperative aspects of the gameplay. I think that's what's been missing from the bulk of the FPS genre. Even games where you play as a team typically ends up with twenty different discrete units operating independently. Games should encourage teamwork as a fundamental aspect of game design.

I still also think the screenshots are flat-out unbelievable. There's no way the game is going to look like that.
I have actually been surprised at how quiet Cliffy B and Epic have been about this game since E3. I am guessing its because they are hard at work, but I would have thought IGN or Gamespot would have gotten a look see at some recent builds of the game. We are only 2 months away from "emergence" day. my guess is that Microsoft has some big ass plans for this game to combat the inevitable Sony mass media onslaught.

This game is still the reason I bought a 360 a month ago. I really really REALLY want it to live up to the hype. I have finally stepped away from halo 2 after almost 2 years of pretty steady play, and I am definitely ready to be engrossed by Gears.

Edit: Also, one thing I am REALLY hoping for is that there are more than one chainsaw kill animations. While it seems friggin cool to chainsaw a guy, I hope they have a bit more positional specific animations because from what I have seen it always defaults to chainsaw to the chest.

November 12th, eh? So we have the supposed killer app for the 360, the PS3, AND the Wii all being released within the span of one week. I feel sorry for the poor bastards working at video game stores on that week.
Oh god, no shit. That's going to be hell.
I'm betting the game will look fantastic, and stutter worse than... um... some guy who stutters a lot.

Well hey, at least they get first dibbs. I worked at Toys R Us and employees would always hold onto the best shit for themselves right off the trucks.

that fucker cliffy B better not lett his game stutter. I was also afraid of that too. With such unbelievably high quality graphics, I keep wondering where is the catch.
If it does, I'm going to regret a little bit buying my "next gen" system for only a minor improvement...
Did this get moved up? IGN and Gamestop both have it listed as 11/7 instead of 11/12 now.
I read a story at...somewhere that had an Epic guy saying, "well, it ships on the 7th, is in stores probably the next day. We're still calling the 12th 'Emergence Day' because we're doing a bunch of exciting things that day". I guess there's going to be an all-day fragfest with the designer and Megadeth on XBL or something.

If the Wii wasn't coming out next month I'd be getting a 360 instead for this game.

The only reason I'm not getting a Wii on day one is this and CoD3, I figured I would have my hands full for a while. I'll snag one after Christmas (and I can always get Zelda for my Cube if I can't wait).

Thanks for the info, Nov 8 is going to be a busy day.

Well, I went to Gamestop and asked them about it and they said it's the 12th. He also told me the 7th is a rumor but it states it on the site. I never trust those Gamestop guys. I also read in a magazine that stated it was coming out on th 7th or the 8th for people who pre-ordered it. But who knows. Hopefully I can get my pre-order on the 7th or the 8th.
I would think its the 7th. Most new releases hit on a tuesday, which would fall on the 7th....

New trailer on xbox live=unbridled awesomeness.
Checked out the FAQ on teamxbox.com. shipping date is the 7th and will be in stores on/by the 12th..

and that trailer kicked ass...

11/12 is the day they picked for their big promotions and as the day that it's guaranteed to be in stock at all retailers. But it will ship on the 7th so some stores - especially game specialty stores - will have it later that day or the 8th.
yea the basic gist of the story is...Official shipping date is november 7th. So most likely, your gamestops and EB games will have the game midnight November 8th. Your best buys, walmarts, and targets will get the game and probably wont get it onto the shelf till the 9th or 10th. "Emergence Day" begins 12:01 am the morning of the 12th of november, and in reality it has just become a massive XBL gameday, more than a game release day.

I am actually looking forward to having thousands of people playing one game over the course of 24 hours...that is if XBL can handle it. The way splinter cell has sputtered out the gates does not give me much faith.

Do you mean the one that uses "Mad World" as the music? Holy shit, that thing is great. I've read that's the in-game graphics engine using a cinematic camera. Wow.

It was absolutely insane. I'll be very surprised if the game looks like that, though. Very pleasantly surprised.

what this game needs is a HYPE thread

Really? Don't get me wrong, the game looks amazing, but I was a bit underwhelmed by it. It's just the guy running down an empty ally and getting eaten by a bug. If I had never heard of the game before, I'd have assumed it was some kind of survival horror game.

. . . I gently weep for you.

Why? Am I missing something that was great about this video? I'm not saying that the video was a deal breaker by any means, but I wouldn't choose it as a video to show someone who has never heard of the game.

I'd have used the same song, but set it to a video of a team leading a charge against a vast army of giant bugs like the one seen in the trailer. You see your comrads getting picked off as well as you and your team flanking and using team work to attack. It would have shown that this game is an action game that requires more calculated combat rather than just your standard run-and-gun, shown the epic nature of the battles, and would've been just as visually impressive.
If you went the balls out action route, the private, beatiful song wouldn't fit.

Yes, because the ad is perfect for displaying a desperate situation. It also displays perfectly the power behind the Xbox 360's graphics: extremely emotive faces. It also dodges the cliches of "HEAVY METAL MANLY ACTION".

I disagree, there was the scene in Return of the King where Billy Boyd was singing that song set to the soldiers heading towards their doom that was beautiful. That's kind of what I had in mind. For the current trailer, I'd have scored it to "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp".

I'm not attacking the visuals of the game. They are stunning, no question. But I can't say I was surprised by them as I've seen numerous videos for the game and that the power of the graphics has been on the main selling points since day 1. The emotive face was actually what kind of killed the mood for me. He's about to meet his certain doom and he gives the same emotion I see Tiger Woods give when he's about to get a water hazard. Building on my earlier example, the desperation could've been conveyed had he been the only one left standing at the end of a battle. He looks across the field and sees his fallen comrades, and just before he walks away, that giant creature comes out from behind a building, leveling them in the process. He picks up his gun and heads toward it firing as the video fades out displaying the title.

The Mad World trailer would've worked without the run and gun stuff altogether. Just touring these environments, the soldier lifting the broken statue, the cities with the rotting corpses and skulls, the dynamic sky above, and one man standing in the middle of the street with the chainsaw gun as one of those giant bugs crawls up. It's a beautiful game that should be lovingly showed off for more than just the typical FPS stuff. That's the kind of trailer you use that kind of song for.
I would've liked that trailer a whole lot more if they had just slowed down the pace to match the song. Let the "camera" linger a little bit.
i love the pacing from what i've seen though...it goes much faster than I thought.

Apparently the trailer was directed by David Fincher.

wtf? David Fincher? Why is this the first I have heard of this?

I figure it would have been another wonderful reason to have another press release about the game.

Am I the only one who thinks of Buzz Lightyear when I see the main character sprinting in that trailer?
