Good on the studio for releasing both versions in one package. One attractively-priced package, at that. Thanks, Eileen.

Ditto. I saw that this release was coming out a little while ago, but didn't know the specs. It's always cool to have two different versions of a film like this.

My entry's in!

Yeah I saw this. 12.99 is a steal, considering there's never really been a decent Apocalypse Now DVD.

Picked this up today, besides a nice set of extras, it also has one of my now favorite DVD packaging treatments.

I thought it'd just be some cheap box with the graphics on it, but nope. It's a neat little envelope with the seal coming undone to get to the disks.

And if you guys pick it up at Circuit City you get a 3rd disk. Just some minor stuff but still nice to know they threw that in.

That disc contains the destruction of the Kurtz compound sequence, which was on the original dvd but hasn't made it on to this one. It used to play over the end credits but Coppola didn't want audiences to consider it part of the narrative so he had it removed. Why they didn't include it on this set though I don't know.

I already own the two previous DVD releases (as well as on LD) so at this point, I think I'll wait until the rights issues with HEARTS OF DARKNESS get resolved and the truly "complete" dossier gets released on Blu-Ray or HD. I just wish someone could talk Coppola and Storaro into releasing the film in its original aspect ratio and color-timing.

I didnt know there were rights issues going on with Hearts of Darkness.

What was the original aspect ratio?

It was originally 2.35:1. On DVD, it's 2.0:1, per Coppola's maddening wishes.

EDIT: Here's an admittedly unfair example to demonstrate the difference...
