Okay, just a quick piece of advice: should I have this shipped to my home or to my work?

Neither, have the post office hold it.

There's not a Chewer alive or dead that could have resisted the temptation, so I'm glad you got there first, Goldberg.
Crap, I already bought this for more at Amazon.

I've made a huge mistake.
If anyone is in Austin, TX. on September 2. Michael Cera (George Michael) and Alia Shawkat (Maeby Funke) will be at the Alamo Drafthouse dowtown speaking about the show and specifically being there for the Season 3 DVD. I already got my tickets. If anyone else is going let me know. I would always like to meet some Chewers.

No no no! It's to the place you USED to work at but just drop by to hang out at occasionally! Always get your shit delivered there to the front desk to further burden the receptionist even after you've stopped working there!

EDIT: FUCk. It's Smeagol again.
Have they unveiled the Special Features for this? The only reason I got a soundtrack for AD is from ripping those bonus music only audio tracks from Season 1's special features.
I keep getting user comments about James Gandolfini putting Arrested Development Season 2 in Diva's Anus. What's that about?
If you order this from Amazon, you've made a huge mistake. It'll only cost you $20 at Circuit City.

Or you can pay $18.89 like I linked in the first post.
No offense, Diva, but the lowest shipping will kick that back up over $20.00 - and some stores are going to offer it $19.99, so I'm going to buy it locally....
To reiterate what Uber said, shipping will burn you.

Plus, if you pick it up yourself, you don't have to worry about someone else stealing it.

And take away all your fun. Never. Flame on, bitches.

Also, free shipping with 3 or more DVDs. I always buy in bulk.

Then it's really not $18.89, now is it?

Of course it is. I buy DVDs once, maybe twice a year. I keep a list of movies I want to get and buy them when I can get the best deal. If I bought movies I didn't want just to get one that I did, then it wouldn't be a bargain. I may be stupid, but I'm not that stupid. I do the same with clothing sales, as well.

So what should have been a discussion about the final season of the maybe the greatest sitcom of all time has turned into an argument over when/where/how to buy DVDs? Good.

Well technically it started out as a discussion over price. It's a given that we all love the show.

Yeah, this show is the tits! Also, thanks for the rep points Matt. I do love my avatar.
The last four episodes were pretty close to perfection.

Overstock.com is selling Season 3 for $18.31 ($16.91+1.40 S/H). I've already pre-ordered for two dollars more at Amazon, but you can't put a price on love.

DVDTalk has their review up already.

The reviewer calls "S.O.B.s" a misstep, which is one of the funniest eps of the season. He also admittedly didn't catch the show until it came out on DVD. While his review may be positive, I can't take it seriously.

But thanks for the link Rob. I hadn't placed my order yet. I guess it pays to be patient and wait for the best deal.
The Rita arc made me weep tears of joy. Taste my joy, Michael!
What makes the show a must-buy on DVD is that it's so rewatchable. There are so many jokes per frame that you can't possibly take it all in from just one viewing.

Some quotes from S.O.B's:

Michael: I did it again, didn’t I? I’m so self-centered. From now on, I want you to just tell me what’s on your mind, okay? And I promise I won’t just hear what I want to hear.

George Michael: I love my cousin.

Michael: Love you, too, pal.

----------------------------------

Tobias: You know, Michael, if I may take off my acting pants for a moment and pull my analrapist stocking over my head, George Michael has been acting strange lately. I think he may have developed what we in the soft sciences refer to obsessive-compulsive disorder. Or the O.C. disorder.

And of course the meta-jokes:

Michael: Hello. Hey, so what’s going on with the fund-raiser?

George, Sr.: Well, I don’t think the Home Builders Organization is going to be supporting us.

Michael: Yeah, the HBO’s not going to want us. What do we do now?

George, Sr.: Well, I think it’s show time. I think we have to have a show during dinner.

----------------------------------

Michael: Well, am I the only one that thinks that this family is finally starting to become sympathetic and relatable? I mean, that’s what people want to see.

Seems strange to read a review from someone who isn't a really big fan. I wasn't really too keen on his take, but wanted to hear about the bonus features.

Apparently (from the-op.com) everyone but Jeffery Tambor participates in one of the commentaries. The cast talks about him incessantly, including a great callback to Bringing Up Buster:

Cast: Tambor is so controlling when he's around.

Tony Hale: Yeah Jeffrey's great. Maybe we should call him?

Get this from Overstock.com through Aug. 31 for $16.01 SHIPPED with this link:

Put the DVD and one non-multimedia item (like $0.15 paper clips) in your cart and get 12% off the order plus $1 shipping.

If anyone here doesn't use the DVDTalk.com forums for DVD bargains, you are wasting a LOT of money.

Just got done watching Family Ties. When G.O.B. breaks sown after saying "hey, maybe I should ask about a family discount!"....man, I don't think I've laughed harder all year.
This may be my most anticipated release of the year.

It's been sold out for weeks. :-(

Anyway, I'll probably be hitting Circuit City up for mine. I don't mind paying a little more if it means I can take it home and start watching right away.
They had it out early at a Blockbuster I happened into last night.
It is mine. All mine!

(Yes, their sticker price is high, but through a complex system of clearance video game purchases/trade-ins, it cost me less than $15 in "real money". Woohoo!)
How are the special features on it? I don't think they were even divulged in the specs for it.

Edit: Nevermind, they're discussed in this Review of the set.
I've only listened to one commentary so far. They talked about "Veronica Mars" a lot... and Bateman pointed out when he got a facefull of GOB's "black coffee and cigarettes" breath. Heh.

Just finished it (was not able to catch it on TV) and holyshititisgreat. I'm fairly certain this is the greatest TV show of all time. The only problem is that I fear the later episodes of Season 3 won't age well.

Also there was some dispute between my friends and I about George Michael getting to second base with Maebe. They think second base means handjobs and fingering but I think that it meant groping and the whole "headfirst" thing meant he sucked her boobs or something. Which one is second base?
Unless the times are a'changing, second base is just groping.
Shit, these days "second base" probably means anal followed by atm.
First base is kissing (French or otherwise). Second base is breast access (the Charlie Hustle picture seems to indicate the aforementioned 'sucking'). Third base is hand-to-genital contact. Home run is intercourse.

Just got my copy of AD season 3 in the mail today. At work, would you believe.

Taste the happiness.
I'm fairly certain that the commonly accepted base rules group all genital stimulation (be it oral or fingeral) on 3rd base, but there are many my age who seperate the two.
While the season started a wee weak, man did it finish with a bang. Love this show, and I do hope the movie comes to fruit. Felt wierd having only 2 discs, and blasting right through it in 2 days.

Sadly while watching, me and my friends clerified the bases too. BUT...

When ever though a friend is gonna get some, we remind him to hit for the cycle.
I love the running ".....the O.C." "Please don't call it that." joke that runs through the season since it was really something you'd hear out in Orange County often when The OC premiered.

Just ordered today, and it's still $16 bucks ($18 and change after shipping).

Thanks.

Now I just got to find a deal on Season Two and I can prepare for a marathon session of comedic greatness.
Seriously though, is it premature to call this the funniest show of all time?

No, and I concur!

However, I do feel that some of the jokes are lost on people who don't know the context of some of the gags. I have friends who, like the reviewer linked above, didn't like "S.O.Bs" because they missed all the meta-jokes due to not knowing all the details that unfolded around the show staying on the air. A gag like having the Japanese investors reducing their work order from 22 homes to 13 gets lost on someone who didn't know that Fox reduced the episode order for Arrested Development. But despite this, there is still plenty of funny for everyone to love.

I can't wait to do my three season marathon this weekend. I'm going to be watching with a friend who has not seen any episodes of the show, so it'll be fun to re-experience the show as a newbie through his eyes.

I'd argue though that jokes like that (which I got) are so insular as to work against the show. It's one thing to reward regular viewers with callbacks, another to just be annoyingly inside-baseball. When the joke is the reference, there's not much of a joke there, kind of like when bad parody movies just ape a scene from another movie without actually satirizing it.

I do think it's one of the funniest shows to ever grace the airwaves but if it has any faults, this is probably it.

I agree with you here. It's was hard in the middle of season three to try and get my friends to watch. Afterwards all I ever was heard "I don't get it".

But, letting someone borrow my Season One DVD collection resulted in a wanting for more.

I see your point, but I think those gags were less about rewarding the fans and more about sticking it to the man (or in this case Fox). What better way to get out all your frustrations than by working it into the show?

They did a great job of having episodes with jokes and storylines that were broad enough that anyone would get them, as well as having the inside meta-jokes that fans would really appreciate. Not getting the meta-jokes didn't take away from the funny of the episodes for those that didn't get them. I don't see it as a hinderance at all.
I'm sure someone out there in Intertron land will make, if they haven't already, some sort of guide for people who will come to the show late with notes regarding some of the references in the show.

Like all the FOX show cutbacks and such.

That would be the only drawback while showing someone the DVDs three or four years form now. You'd have to explain to them some of the jokes. So that's gonna suck.
That's the one thing that holds me back from calling it the funniest show of all time. There are large parts of this show that aren't going to age well AT ALL.

But the meta stuff never reaches the level of self-referential masturbation because it's always done in a fresh and funny way. It's the material for jokes, but I think rarely was the joke the reference itself, like Count Floyd said. And when it was ("Mr. F!") it was always a quick throwaway.

But I agree that, in the end, it's inaccesibility to new viewers is what killed the show. I don't blame the general public for not watching later on in the third season.

That being said, I am reccomending the DVDs to everyone who falls into my gaze.
