Lately I've been listening to the words of wisdom of Sly and the Family.  In particular:

BLUE BLOOD BLUES by The Dead Weather. I decided to give this album another spin this week and have been hooked on it, but the lead track is probably my favorite.

Rewatched The Insider last night and was reminded of this great song.

Completely, skull-crackingly obsessed with this song right now.

Hyberbole be damned this may be the greatest American pop song ever recorded.

A couple lately:

Been playing this a lot lately on Rocksmith, which has reminded me what simple but powerful genius this song is. Really fun bassline, as well.

Discovered these guys recently - a hidden gem of a band from the UK who really should be massive by now. A really great blend of hard rock, power pop and bouncy indie (especially this song, which has a really Britpoppy feel). Also, one of those rare but welcome bands that know how to write a humorous lyric - this song in particular has some great ones.

On my drive home today, they played The Obvious Child on the radio.  Probably my favorite Simon song, and not a usual one to hear on the airwaves.  Naturally, It's been stuck in my head since.

Additionally, The National released a new single the other day.  Digging it.

I know it's a trendy pick right now, but the debut album for Of Monsters and Men is destroying me. It's like a folk/modern Fleetwood Mac, Nanna is my new Stevie Nicks and Love, Love, Love is right next to Landslide as the perfect song about longing and regret. The way she pronounces 'crook' just melts me.

And to get a feel for the band's full sound with a more active number, I really like Mountain Sounds, though there are plenty of good ones.

A highlight from Dave Grohl's Sound City doco/album, featuring Corey Taylor of Slipknot. Wicked song, Way more righteous vocals than you might expect from the Slipknot Guy.

I'd love to post this on some "guilty pleasures" -thread. But this song is just too fucking good for that. Can't...resist...I must kneel before Psy!

but if you listen closely, you may hear

We'll rub a mexican

We'll rub a mexican (let'sget rubbed together)

We'll rub a mexican monkey

We'll rub a mexican (once again)

Ambient Bieber

This shit is amazing.  Wonder if the Biebs listens to this when he's on a downer cycle after being tweaked on meth for a while.

This is what Bieber would sound like if you were on SloMo.

That seems to be a new genre of music. This is pretty good too, "Call Me Maybe" slowed down 1000%.

The pannings on that Bieber joint are incredible.

The wife is a massive K-Pop fan, so when this video came out I actually had a frame of reference!  If you want to know where the dance (and the insanely hot girl) came from originally, check out this catchy number from a couple of years ago.  It's so hypnotic . . . like a lava lamp . . .

Holy shit.

Edited to add: do yourself a favor and try to make it to 11 minute mark for something massive. And creepy as hell.

I've been re-getting into the B-52s again lately. They were awesome.
