Voting will end tomorrow.

Devin keeps talking about how anonymity on the board frees people up to be crazy jackasses, but this system allows people to shirk any responsibility for what they say in the comments, becasue it really is anonymous. It's not just jackass commnets either, it's also just stupid shit.

Might wanna vote "no" then.
I like it, I think it's a fun little addition that really shouldn't be taken all that seriously. But if it's bothering some people or generally working against what you intended it for, I say lose it.
I vote lose it. It's an interesting idea, but I can only think of one or two instances where I felt compelled to hand some out. I prefer digg's method to where you can give any one comment praise or scorn, but it doesn't affect any overall standing.
I'm abstaining from the vote, since we all know how it's going to turn out, but I'd just like to say that for one brief, shining moment yesterday, I was a glorious beacon of light. Thank you. Thank you all!
Ya still are, baldy!

I vote for whichever one will get me ++++ rep points.
I'm back! Doing away with the rep system now would be a crime. A crime against ME!
There is a HUGE difference between "Glorious Beacon of Light" and "Just Really Nice". This method is obviously flawed.
The only way I'd say keep it is if the rep posts were not anonymous. Otherwise, ice it.
I say lose it.

It's stupid and ultimately hurtful to the future integrity of the site and the message board users.
Nick, is there ANY way to get User ID's attached to the praise n' malaise? I often get stupid comments like "GET AIDS AND DIE COCK SUCKER" in a thread where my only post is "I really like dogs. They are nice and usually eat whatever food you drop on the floor."

Attaching UserIDs to these rep points will definitely get things under control.

Brad Millette is just really nice.

(No, he really didn't say that. I'm just being sarcastic. Brad would never use a split infinitive.)
Man, I WISH I'd left that. "Your brain cells committed crimes against God the second they began to divide in the womb" is gold.

I agree there. The only problem is the rep. system might be a pre-built item from v-bulletin. They might not be able to alter it in that way.
"Disagree. Seeing the names will make things bleed onto the boards even more."

This got me 10 points deducted. Thanks Bradley.

Do away with these fucking Rep Points, or I am coming down to Chud Tower in Atlanta and doing it myself. And I will bring Adrian Zmed with me to dance, sing and distract.
That wasn't me. I'm worth at least 15.
Oh my honeybear, you are worth much more than 15.

I will find you...

Just for the record, I haven't said anything offensive at all in this thread, yet managed to go from 39 points to 26, now...
You're actively trying to get me to de-rep you now, aren't you.
I honestly don't really know anymore.

Christopher Read is the new Kueller.
He called you honeybear. You only have a couple of days to take advantage, so I say slap him around with your glorious beacon of light.
Keep only if you can attach UserIDs to the reputation comments. If not, lose it.
I take my responsibilities as a holy messiah very seriously, Nordling.
In other news, Sir Daniel Whitehead of the Holy Boards of Most Productive Messaging now has six green squares. 'Tis godly.
It's a lark. Lighten up people. Any nasty rep comments that I get make me laugh.

He's still behind His Holiness Charlemagne Brigden the First, though.
He has my lightsaber.
Oh well, my points are in a free fall.

A pro could be that there are roughly 12 or so people on these boards who have more than three squares in the rep department. The majority of said 12 people are the ones who DO bring something valid and well thought out to the table, as I have been on these boards for more than 3 years (ignore my join date, this is my 2nd and last ID user here. And NO, I wasn't banned as that older ID is still active). While some may think the points are ridiculous, it may help noobs know whom not to run their mouth to.
All these glorious beacons of light are blinding me!
I stand with the "User IDs or Death" crowd.
Even the anonymity doesn't bother me all that much. I just wish more people would leave comments. I don't mind getting negative rep if something amusing comes from it, or even better some amount of legitimate and/or helpful criticism. I wouldn't really want to force people to sign it, but it'd be a much better gesture if they did so willingly. It sucks to open up the User CP and see a bunch of blank spaces next to red or green boxes.
They can be funny. Quit being such pussies - I'm looking at you Kueller, Surge and Crow.
If we lose the rep, how will anyone know about me and Gandolfini?!
Legends never die.
So I missed the inauguration of reputation points... the user CP shows recent rep points (I have mere 7 but it's only showing 2 and no comments) - where's damn FAQ on this new fangled stuff?

Oh, and I vote to keep them! Apparently my indecision and request for + rep points was a bad idea...

I'm not saying many aren't funny. It's the people hiding behind anonymity, or worse signing other's names, that's a problem. I'd like to give positive feedback to the person who sent me "You know why my feet smell - Gravy".

Plus, the lurker crowd and their barrage of grey commentless blobs roll off the more quotable ones too often.

Not saying they aren't funny. But as it stands, that seems to be the only purpose it serves. Little red dots or a long string of green ones don't tell me anything that reading a member's posts over the course of a day doesn't already. But if we're gonna have it, making people have to own up to their shit (which, I believe, plenty of people would be more than happy to do) would keep things much more honest instead of anonymous asshats being...well...pussies about it.
So, these people who think requiring User ID on the comments is a good idea- why? What good will that do? I assume you want to know so you can find out who is giving you negative points. And in that case, it will surely only create more bad blood and lead to more of the same problems Nick is trying to avoid. Who gives a shit?

edit: Well, I guess Surge and Crow gave a couple reasons while I was reading/typing. I still think people take this thing way too seriously. It's a fun little distraction, that's it.
I think the system is kind of amusing, so I guess I'll vote to keep it. It won't ruin my CHUD experience, though, if you scrap it.
Where's Fatty Werbal? I think he gave a pretty good account of the rep system's consequences.
I think he's been retconned.
I like the rep points, although I'd like to be able to a) look at more than the last 5 points given to me (there are some real gems on mine that I can't look at anymore, sadly) and b) the username involved. I'm a little shaky on b), because I fear the first time someone leaves a bad rep the receiver is gonna go critical mass on the forums.
Don't lose the rep, since people are having fun with comments. Assign user IDs to the points, as other vBulletin boards have done.

Or lose it. Not a big loss, I don't think. CHUD doesn't need it.

I'm being swayed on my vote. I agree there's been a substantial amount of amusement on it so far, so I'd sort of hate to see it go. Additionally, I think it's taken a lot of nasty comments that would have derailed a thread and tossed them out of sight, so there's been some benefit there as well.

My only real gripe really comes down to those signing someone else's name to incite something irresponsibly. So subtract one from the naysayers, and put me into the "Will of the Masses" category.

Buncha big floppy pussies in this thread.

Isn't that enough?

Anyways, I don't get how they don't mean anything. People with lots of green are great posters and people with red are shitty. It tells a great deal.
The answer is 5, mystery point-giver.

Yeah, I mean, who cares? Naysayers -- Does it really hurt your feelings to receive a negative rep point, anonymous or otherwise? If it does, you've got problems that go beyond CHUD MB rep.
I do think it's funny that someone gave me a negative point saying 'No one is being a pussy'...and then didn't sign the comment. I mean, goes against whole anti-rep point movement purpose doesn't it?
Rep points are fun, shouldn't be taken so seriously. Don't attach user names either - it will make more wars between posters. Leave it the way it is.
