Wow the Cena-less RAW drew only

PWInsider.com is reporting that WWE is currently focusing on TV ratings, and this is coming directly from Vince McMahon. WWE's primary goal is the various television projects they have going on and not pay-per-view buys.

The plan is to use pay-per-view views to bring in more consistent viewers to the weekly television programs.

Isn't that exactly the opposite of what you should be doing?

I read the WithLeather wrap-up of Raw, and he seemed to enjoy the show for the most part, especially the Big Show stuff (which he even noted was weird).  But I still didn't watch it.  No Cena?  Fuck that.

Devil's advocate here, Heat/Celtics was on at the same time.  Probably took a bite out of their viewership.

Pawn Stars had a episode featuring Chumlee having a bowel movement as well.

This might be the worst drop off in quality post-WrestleMania ever. Usually it gets kind of bad but they pick back up. This is just fucking horrible. It's like WrestleMania and Extreme Rules never happened and it fucking sucks because they were in perfect position to change things up.

So far Impact Wrestling hasn't been terrible. The Sting/Roode match was good, Austin Aries/Chris Sabin was a good match, the Bully Ray/Joseph Park angle was fun and gut check was interesting.

Decent Hardy/Devon match for the TV title and decent main event but it was completely ruined with this entire Dixie Carter/AJ Styles possibly having an affair shit. I thought they were getting away from that.

Last weeks raw was terrible but I don't think that it's been all that bad recently. Lesnar returning even for a little bit was huge for me, as he was one of my favorites growing up. Not to mention we got punk and Bryan in an actual rivalry now so it's not all that bad.

And I like big show and his heel turn has been pretty good so far but did they really need tO have him squash 3 guys that are mad over last Monday?

Actually excited for Smackdown tonight.  Can't think of the last time I said that.  The power of Punk compels me!

WWE knows they're in trouble...

WWE is reportedly alarmed at the low rating that RAW received this week. The show did a 2.7 cable rating, the lowest number of the year, and the big topic of discussion in the company was that as opposed to Randy Orton's suspension.

While the rating was hurt by several factors including Memorial Day, the record-breaking debut of Hatfields & McCoys and the NBA playoffs, officials were reportedly concerned that the CM Punk/Daniel Bryan match lost viewers and that the Alberto Del Rio/Santino Marella match was the lowest quarter hour rating that the show has had in years.

Sure. Blame Daniel Bryan/CM Punk which is the only good thing about the WWE right now. Don't blame the fact that the product has gone backwards since Extreme Rules and no one gives a shit about Laurinitis and People Power. The fans wanted some big changes following WrestleMania and Extreme Rules and the WWE blew it. A 2.7 is just beyond awful. It doesn't matter what the competition was. They're starting to lose even their core audience that has put up with the crap they've put on for years now.

There's some good news:

It is being reported that WWE is considering merging the US and IC Titles once again. With the company recently bringing back the classic IC title design and considering that the IC Title has been a WWE staple since 1979, WWE will likely drop the US title after a unification match.

At this time, there are no plans to unify the WWE and World Titles. The reason is that WWE likes having both belts defended on the separate RAW and SmackDown live events.

Keeping the WWE and World titles separate is stupid. I'm tired of this whole roster split anyways. It's time to merge the rosters and all of the titles. The only titles there should be are the WWE title, IC title, Women's title and Tag Team titles.

I went to the Chikara Pro event in Philly this evening, Chikarasaurus Rex. It was seriously one of the most fun times I've had at a live event in recent memory. Just super fun. Got to see Sara del Rey in person kicking ass in a mixed gender handicap match, Ultra Mantis Black win the title of "Most Devious Man IN Chikara", and a tag team "loser leaves town" match featuring Colt Cabana. Highlight of the evening was a 10 man tag match that devolved into anarchy before the bell even rang, and featured some crazy fun spots.

If Chikara puts on a show anywhere near you, I HIGHLY suggest you go to it, if you haven't already. It's pretty much everything I love about pro wrestling with none of the things I hate.

Glad you had a great time. CHIKARA is a great promotion with some fun characters and storylines mixed in with great wrestling,  That show you went to was also broadcast live via iPPV, the replay can be ordered via Go Fight Live at www.gofightlive.tv

There's comical Connecticut elections news involving Linda. I'd post it in the Elections thread, but WWE is mixed up in it as well.

WWE has threatened to sue one of the local newspapers and a columnist who criticized the business that made the McMahons rich. Besides the usual "violence and porn" canards that get leveled against the WWE, the paper pointed out WWE's horrible record of contractually absolving itself of blame for workers' deaths in advance. Linda was CEO of the company until 2009, when she resigned in order to begin her first, unsuccessful, Senate run, and has made her business experience the primary selling point of both of her Senate campaigns.

The paper stands by its reporting, and has responded to the threats of lawsuit by filing a complaint against WWE with the Federal Election Commission, then reporting on their FEC complaint on page one of today's paper.

I just don't get that segment.  Yeah, Cole is a bitch.  But when someone like Daniel Bryan bitch slaps him, after WEEKS of Cole degrading him, it works.  Not to mention, they both are of equal size.  When you have Cena fight Cole, it comes off like an adult beating up a child.  The way you book that, is Cena getting weakened, then Cole coming in and beating him with a chair.  Then, the last second, Cena grabs the chair and gives Cole his finisher and walks off.

Reminds me of the episode of the Simpsons, when Burns is showing off his writing room full of monkeys.  That is the WWE.

Now I'm sad.

I feel bad for the dude too. I don't collect autographs, but I think it would be cool to chat with him.

His "Virgil" run was a little before my time, but I enjoyed his run as Vincent, the nWo lackey, in WCW. Was fun to watch him throw himself at the mercy of his charge's opponent to help the wrestler he was managing get a dishonest win. As someone online once mused, he was like a loyal soldier throwing himself on a grenade to protect his comrades. I gotta respect that.

It was cute how he kept getting named as allusions to other things. First, "Virgil", as a Dusty Rhodes parody. Then "Vincent" as a Vince McMahon parody, and finally, "Shane" with 'The West Texas Rednecks' group as a reference to of both Vince's son and the western of the same name.

YOUR FIRST LOOK AT THE NEW WWE CHAMPIONSHIP BELT, WHAT DO YOU THINK?
by Mike Johnson @ 1:51 PM on 6/6/2012

Belttalk.com, a message board featuring discussion on the creation and fandom of championship belts within pro wrestling, featured a photo of the new WWE championship belt.

This afternoon, PWInsider.com sent the photo to several WWE sources who noted that while there were some changes being made, it is indeed the new belt design

Can't make a judgment call on an unfinished prototype.

obviously going to add to it.  So, as a base, it's not BAD.  Better then the spinner

It looks like the gold wrapper on a candy bar. Too much blank, featureless surface space.

Not so sure about that new title... but losing the spinner belt is looooooong overdue.  I just wish they'd go back to the classic belts, I loved the 80's WWF World Title, and the ol' Flair model WCW/NWA world title is fitting for Smackdown's champion (World or WWE? I can never keep them straight since they're supposedly equal in stature).   My favorite is the late 80's/early 90's Intercontinental title.  When somebody won it, they'd keep the design and just change the color of the strap to fit their color schemes/gimmick.  I think I had more fun following the IC matches back in the day than I did with the world title scene. Mr. Perfect, HBK, Bret Hart, etc.. good times!

But I digress... I agree that this new prototype sort of looks like a candybar, but one would have to assume that more jewels/decorations would be added to it before taking it to the shows.  Fuckin' JC Penny belts looks nicer than that fuckin' spinner belt. It's so damned tacky and never should have been worn by anyone but Cena, and even then Cena should have phased it out as his gimmick morphed into Super Soldier Marine Babyface from his old wigger/rapper one.

I wonder if she'll be at Dragon*Con this year if she's not with WWE anymore.  They usually pull in 1-2 "names" for their Dragon*Con Wrestling show on Friday nights.  I think last year was Raven and Iron Sheik.  One year they had a 3 way match with Tracie Brooks, Gail Kim, and Christy Hemme--I think Gail and Christy had just left WWE before going to TNA.

I'm prertty sure that is just the base.  Assuming that the logo will have a chrome or another type of metal veneer, and also leather cut outs to accent the belt.

If that is the final final design, then I agree.

I don't. I'm sick of belts that look more like ornaments then Championship Belts. I like a nice, rounded top, and curved a bit so it looks like its supposed to be worn around the waist. Not so fricken heavy that it only looks good on the shoulder (see Punk with the current belt)

Curious to see Raw next week for hte BIG ANNOUNCEMENT (pleasebringbackJRpleasebringbackJR).

Probably Brock Lesnar is the big announcement and that John laurunitis has his back in any legal fights with squashy.

The big announcement is probably about Triple H being at No Way Out to address the Lesnar situation, a situation that's been forgotten by the fans because we haven't seen any vignettes to remind us of his existence.

I was speaking more of his traded-away slave status, but now I have the image of Christian finger-banging Dixie Carter in my head.  Thank you soooooo much.

Apparently, Del Rio suffered a serious concussion when Sheamus used his head for a pinata on Smackdown, and he might not be medically cleared in time for No Way Out.  Kane might get yanked out of the WWE Title match and stuck in with the pasty Irish ghost.  WWE potentially putting Kane in another big title match, along with the fact that they have been playing up his 14-year title drought...hmm.  It's like when they played up Show being the reverse Undertaker at Mania right before he won this year.  Just sayin'.

Hopefully they won't have their top babyface prospect job to Kane in a title match. Better if there's a iffy finish with Sheamus retaining, then the pasty Irish ghoul kills the Has Been Machine in the July PPV rematch.

You guys must see Slammiversary. Download it, order the replay, buy the DVD. Whatever.

It was fucking awesome. I haven't been into WWE or TNA in recent weeks. My younger cousin wanted to see Slammiversary last night so my uncle paid for it and we watched it here. Holy shit, I was completely caught off guard how great it was. The place looked like a legit sell out on TV... more than 5,000 fans. The booking of the show was up there with a good WWE PPV. All of the matches were entertaining. The best matches of the night were Samoa Joe vs. Austin Aries, Bobby Roode vs. Sting, RVD vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Mr. Anderson, Bully Ray vs. Joseph Parks and Kaz & Daniels vs. Kurt Angle & AJ Styles (best match of the night, IMO).

This was the best show I've ever seen put on by TNA.

Yea, I was going to order it but suddenly I can't order pay per views for some reason, so I streamed a bit of it. AA and Joe was fucking amazing. TNA is really hitting it on 90% of its cylinders right now. I say 90 cause the Kid Kash vrs Hernandaz was horrible.

Also, they need to stay away from the 'impact zone'. that crowd was on fuckin FIRE all night. That helps their shows so much more then kids in mickey hats.

WWE just sent out a text on their little Breaking News alert system thing that Del Rio is officially out of No Way Out.  New #1 contender to be named on RAW tonight.  Probably Kane. Or maybe Ziggles.

I really hope TNA can keep up the momentum.

I'm not a big fan of all the new ideas they're doing but some of them seem kind of interesting. I like how each show will have it's own theme to it like OFN. I was simply amazed at how good that PPV was last night. The crowd was into it, the matches were good and even the matches that would have been bad in the Impact Zone in front of that crowd were fun in front of the crowd at Slammiversary.

From what I've heard, she's ready to come back, but of course, WWE doesn't know what to do with her.  I dunno, how 'bout having her SLAUGHTER EVERYONE?  Not difficult.

Wait, is Kelly gone now or is there still time for Kharma to defenestrate her before she leaves?

ETA at 8:30: I could watch three hours of just Vince being Vince. I'd buy a PPV if the whole show was just Vince as Dr. Zaius as Hal Holbrook as Mark Twain.

Been busy packing for a business trip tomorrow, but have RAW on in the background.  Still got two pops out of me, though... Ziggler winning #1 contendership (though it'll be a cold day in hell before they put him over Sheamus clean), and of course....

VADER TIME!

So happy the crowd got behind Vader like that. He was always my favorite big-man.  It's not like he'll be coming back or anything, but I'd like to see him show up from time to time to squash peons like Slater.

Apparently they're bringing one veteran wrassler of old out of retirement for a night every Monday until the 1,000th episode. I'll be curious to see who they have next.

Vince dancing with the Funkodactyls got a belly laugh out of me.

A.J. is a hot little firecracker, but half of me is still waiting for Kane to choke-slam her. Seeing him walk off with that confused look on his face was a big surprise. Maybe that's why it was such an effective scene.

AJ is a fucking gem.  Holy hell.  That is all.

And Reasor, we aren't going to see man-on-woman violence in WWE for a long time, thanks to BENOIT.
