Right when all of the New day went with one pick at 10 thanks to the free bird rule why not Take all of the Wyatt Family at 12 and not just Bray?

I can understand not wanting Braun but how does giving Raw a pick help Smackdown? And they're the wyatt family and he's the howitzer in Kayfabe. Why not take him?
"No enhancement needed."

Line of the night from Orton. Hope it wasn't a shoot.. not only will he be fined, Brock will probably take offense. Not a dude I want upset with me!

They went out of their way to keep stating that Bayley was only a one time shot and still in NXT. Why?

Don't think there is any way Orton said that on his own. Just like with Reigns, Brock's recent headlines are out there and they're going to milk it.

The little girl's reaction to Bayley's entrance (at the bottom of the article) is just adorable.  And something WWE should take a long hard look at.

Honestly, I've been more taken with Bayley, Sasha and Becky Lynch more than I have been with most of the male talent.  And it's not just "heh cute girls in tights."  There's just such an energy there.

They really should bump Bayley up fulltime because the women's roster was thin before the split and will be even worse now.

I marked out pretty hard when my guy Dean retained.  Very very happy they didn't completely fuck his reign, but instead made him look strong as FUCK by taking on TWO guys in his first PPV title defense, not to mention a title defense against Seth on TV.

The KO Zayn match was fantastic.  I was worried after what looked like a nasty Zayn botch, but it was even better than Payback.  New Day/Wyatt, the women's tag match and Cena/Styles tag were all pretty decent too.  Overall not a half bad PPV.

Roman is really paying for that drug issue. First he loses clean to Dean at Backlash and then he loses clean to Finn Balor. Doghouse.

Whoah.... Roman is CLEARLY in the doghouse. Jobbing clean to Finn Balor? Fuckin' awesome!

edit: Beat me by 4 seconds. Heh

I think it's good for him to get humbled. Now just turn him heel and get it over with.

Balor beat Roman in his debut?!?!?!

Man, I've felt bad for Roman for a long time.  He's decent and it's not his fault management sucks at his character.  Now it's even worse.

So who does Dean face at SS? They gonna give it to Cena? It's him or AJ Styles at this point and I don't see that happening.

Not his debut, as he won a fatal four way match earlier on. But still, yeah... his first night in. Good sign for Balor, bad sign for Roman.

It may just be the best thing for him, though.  If Vince has soured on the guy, that means after his initial punishment phase he'll be free and clear to go heel where he belongs.

I'm very pleased to hear Finn is getting the allstar treatment he deserves.

Smackdown was a solid follow up to raw. Only thing I have to complain about is Orton beating Miz. Champions shouldn't lose so decisively. Dolph vs Ambrose is a nice surprise. We'll have to see if they can steal the show.

Poor Zach. Having an off night on the first new Smackdown. Hope he doesn't get punished for it.

Heh, Bryan just called Crews "Apollo Creed".

Hoping we get a solid Dolph heel turn at or before Summerslam. His character needs a major jolt if we're going to buy him as a main eventer now. It may be too late for him after a decade of character abuse though.

Still no mention of what they're going to do about a title for women on Smackdown, either.  So I guess these women just fight each other over boys and outfits until the next draft?  Without a championship to strive towards, what's the fucking point?  It's so stupid that they just didn't put the womens division on one show and the Cruiserweights on the other.

Am I nuts or have the last two Raw's and last two Smackdown's been better than usual?

They've both been solid shows and I think it's cool how last week Raw was the better show and this week it was Smackdown.  I think once Raw gets the Crusierweight division going and Smackdown adds a couple of NXT callups they'll start having enough depth on both shows.

Anyone else have a case of schadenfreud watching Roman downgraded to the US Title picture?

Jury is still out on if the shows are actually better, or it's just feeling a little more fresh with some new faces and rearranging who's on the upper tier.

At any rate, it's awesome seeing guys like Enzo and Balor seeing success on the main roster. Both are money if used right. It looks like Balor will get a great push. Enzo though... he'll survive fine because of his mic skills, but it's obvious that Big Cas is the one giving Vince wood. If they do end up splitting, a strongly booked Enzo could be one of their biggest stars in over a decade. He's almost as good as Rock and Flair on the stick even this early in his career. If you ask me, Enzo is the one they've been waiting for since the Attitude Era.

His comeback stuff sucked in that match. I get the feeling he's used to selling and waiting for the Cass hot tag.

The smaller guy almost never gets to receive the hot tag, so yeah... he kinda sucked at that. It's probably the first time he's done it.

Does Smackdown have enough women to even have a title? Maybe if they made it like a TV title or something but I don't think more belts is the answer to their depth problems
post #15625 of 16596

No, not more titles... but they insisted on having women on both shows. Competing without a goal is kinda, well, lame.

At least let the womens champion and the tag champions float between brands.

Gargano vs Ciampa on CWC this week was outstanding. Wrestling needs more of THAT kind of storytelling.

You know when you hear say Nakamura's NXT theme for the first time and it's like "holy shit."  How music rarely clicks the first time you hear it?

Bobby Roode's theme is fucking EPIC.  It's like...  What, Queen?

Woah, that's pretty GLOR-IOUS!

Chris Jericho said on his podcast that he came up with that line and gave it to Randy.

The CGI ninja they use in CWC is pretty lame... but aside from that, the presentation and feel of CWC is phenomenal. You can suspend your disbelief and get into the matches as if they were legit. I'd love to see Smackdown adopt the same approach.

8/14, Progress Wrestling. Ospreay vs Sabre.

If you want a crystal ball to see the future of wrestling, just check out PROGRESS and Revolution Pro.  The Brits are slaying it these days!

I'm enjoying the new direction of the WWE brands.  Eva is still the worst they need to trade her to raw so she can manage Roman and make the hate work for both. I'm all in on the push of Ziggler. Smackdown needs a midline tittle. If I was booking I would avr Ziggler Win the strap at SS I then Ric Flair and Little Naitch cost Ambrose the belt in a rematch and Flair becomes Dolphs manager. A fun house mirror of the Flair Savage feud if you will. Ambrose goes fully unhinged after this screw job loss and goes on a rampage at WWE HQ that ends in him Trashing McMahons office and stealing the Hardcore tittle proclaiming him self the real worlds champion. Have him start defending it in random matches until he is striped of the belt or gets his rematch at Mania.  Shane looks at the belt with fondness and reinstates the title in the First ever Steve Blackman Hardcore Royal rumble to determine a new champion.

Currently watching NJPW Super J Cup 2016 and so far it's been freaking great. Nothing better than watching junior heavyweights beating the crap out of each other to make you appreciate pro graps all over again. After that I'm checking out a ROH house show and then sink my teeth into this year's G1.

Steroid Guy...I mean Ryback has been released to the surprise of no one. He'll be stinking up a TNA and/or local shitty independent ring near you in about 90 days.

Joey Styles, the voice of ECW, was also tossed out. He says he's done with announcing but I would love to hear him call the action in ROH. Kevin Kelly is a nice guy but he sure as hell can't do play by play.

If it accomplishes nothing else, I hope this brand split gives Rusev a chance to shine. That's one funny motherfucker when they let him talk!

Good riddens.

Smackdown has been honestly kind of awesome lately.  Elevating Wyatt into the top heel position and giving him the brief, cool, to the point promos.  Ambrose being Ambrose.  Elevating Ziggler.  The Eva Marie thing.  Even fucking Heath Slater is being reasonably entertaining, all in a very manageable easy to watch not three hour show.  I think I'll stick to it.

Sweet! Imagine Ospreay vs Lethal. The mind boggles.

gaaaah. I keep forgetting that Smackdown is on Tuesday nights and by the time I finally remember, it's after 10pm. Gonna have to program the DVR to catch it from now on.

Just heard about this. Hopefully it's not a one-off just for the UK tour.  Fantastic signing.

I think it's a one-off given Ospreay's employment with NJPW.

Watching CWC right now. Holy mother-of-fuck that match between Ibushi and Cedric Alexander was great! Worth going out of your way to see.

Given how strong the ROH-NJPW relationship is I wouldn't be surprised if he does more dates.  We shall see.

I'm glad you clarified that, because singling out one person in WWE and referring to them as "Steroid Guy" could lead to a game of Guess Who that never ends.

I would love to know how the testing actually works. You'd think if roman got busted it's USADA iron clad for all the young guys who aren't haytch, orton lesnar etc. Its possible... But then again some of those guys are SO insanely cut, like year round on a stupid hard schedule. Makes you wonder.

What I'm saying is KO is juiced to the gills.

Just some highlights, in case you haven't seen the match yet. Great moment after the match too, where the place is going nuts chanting "Please sign Cedric!" until Trips himself comes out to acknowledge him and give a thumbs up.

CWC goes to show that there ARE people in WWE that know how to put together a GREAT wrestling show. I want THIS kind of show for 2-3 hours every week.

Not gonna lie - my heart melted a wee bit at that moment.  The fact that they played it after the "Next Week" hype package as a way to end the episode just made it so special.  The look Trips gives the crowd, like, "Yeah, no arguments here" just made me wish he'd take over the whole ship sooner rather than later.  Criticise him all you want as a worker and his burying practices, but it's pretty hard to knock the guy as a father figure/mentor/show producer to these young talents.

Sandow is now Aron Rex in Impact. Yay?

I know, I know.. indy nerd and all, but I can't help but feel that he missed an opportunity to hit up PWG or Japan for a few shots. Maybe enter King of Trios or BOLA, or of course do a tour of the UK to work with PROGRESS, RevPro, etc..

Right now he's just following in the general blueprint of bringing in a underused WWE guy, having a lukewarm "shoot" promo and rename, and.... just linger around on a show almost no one watches.  A run at BOLA would probably do more to raise his profile in the business.

Best of luck to the guy at any rate.

Re: Trips -

He clearly has a appreciation of the ART of wrestling that Vince McMahon never did. I'm sure he has (and will continue) to be a political backbiting shit in many regards, and a lot of people have very good reasons to think he's a tremendous bag of dicks. I'm also sure WWE will still be chock full of fuckery once Vince steps down (or dies) and HHH is "the man", but I'm willing to bet the in-ring product will improve dramatically.  He'll also be far more willing to let things play out if an angle/character starts getting over.  If somebody starts getting over wthout Vince's permission right now, he's more likely to punish you than reward you. If the crowds are into it, Trips will let it play out or even support it.

I hope he has the good sense to stop this insane jumble of writers working on drafts 24/7 and having 90% of their shit tossed out by a cranky of fuck.  Pare it down to 2-3 writers per show, and ones who actually have watched wrestling for many, many years. I kinda doubt Steph will be agreeable to that, though.

Not to be morbid or horrible or whatever, but Trips has been abusing the juice pretty hard for a long time now.  That shit takes decades off your life.

Well, no. If that was an absolute, guys like Hogan and Arnie would have kicked off two decades ago. Seen Ferrigno lately? Guy looks astounding for his age. It's like anything else - moderation and being smart about what you're doing goes a long way.

I've seen Cedric in ROH and also the shitty little local promotion here in Atlanta. Seeing him doing this well makes me happy.

He can still hit up PWG, Progress, etc... TNA lets their wrestlers take independent bookings, Trevor Lee has been in BOLA for the last three years. Same with Galloway, he's all over the place in ICW, Evolve and RevPro. TNA has had a working relationship with Evolve way before WWE came along. It just comes down to what Sandow wants to do. But, it'll be interesting to see what TNA does with him, because they have a good track record of letting people shine and hit their full potential, like with Galloway and EC3 to Christian and Bubba Ray showing they have it to be main eventers.

It's the cool thing to shit on TNA, but honestly, from a booking and storytelling stand point, they have been on pretty on point all year with simple logical booking where wins and losses mean something. It's easily right behind LU as the best weekly wrestling show.
