I managed to get my hands on the full run of Tofu Pro Wrestling ... it's a JDrama about teenage joshi.  I'm more shocked than anyone that it's actually pretty great.

Yes, it's very .... uh, Japanese .... but I'm almost done with the 24 episode run (last episode doesn't have subs, sadly) and I had a big, markish, shit-eating grin on my face consistently throughout.  If you manage to come across it, give it a shot.  Really.  I don't think there's a "legit" way to see it in the US yet... but this is the Internet. Google will provide. :)

For those who follow Japanese wrestling. Yoshihiro Takayama injured himself in a freak accident doing a sunset flip and is now paralyzed from the neck down.

This is very sad news for another one of the greats.

JBL is gone, save for occasional big events. Graves will be stepping in, so he'll be calling both RAW and Smackdown.

With that piece of shit bully hick out of the picture, why not just bring Mauro back? Or bring Nigel up, at least.  I like Corey and all, but don't burn the kid out for Christs sake! Both shows should sound different anyway, so there's no benefit in making Graves pull double duty. Having to sound engaged with that stale product for 3 hours a week is hard enough. 5's gotta be gun-in-mouth impossible.

Mauro probably prefers the lighter schedule and working on only the hot product of WWE, not the worst WWE show.

PWG's BOLA 2017 is up for pre-order.  Knowing them, it'll be a good 2-3 months before they ship.  PWG is both sublime and frustrating. There is no better stage or audience for WRESTLING (not Sports Entertainment) in the U.S. than PWG, Their shows rival NJPW, sometimes surpassing them IMHO.  But this hipster shit of refusing to join the rest of us in 2017 with streaming and/or VOD for recent shows takes away a lot of the urgency of the product.  By the time the rest of us get to see BOLA, they've already held 2-3 more shows. Half the guys might be in NXT or RAW by the time the discs come out. Ugh.

I'm telling you: If they did an iPPV for BOLA, even just the final night, it would turn a profit in the current market. I'd stake my life on it. Wrestling as a whole isn't going through a boom period, but the indies have never been healthier.

Saw Vince McMahon retweeted and saw he was only following 25 people. Found I funny that CM Punk and AJ were 2 of the people he follows.

Matt Riddle and Jeff Cobb are going to do a tour of NJPW, possibly in the World Tag League.  This makes me happy.

Oh, and get this:  On LABOR Day - of all days - WWE announced that they'll be running RAW live on both Christmas and New Years this year.  Way to ruin your employees holiday season for shows that'll do low numbers regardless.  Vince McMahon, champion of the working man. Dick.

Also, heheh:

So.. Jarrett is out, the name GFW is up in the air since JJ owns it....  and now Anthem may sell the company (whatever it's called by then) off and be done with the headache once and for all.   Potential buyers?  WWE, ROH and Billy Corgan.

At this point, you have to start wondering if the Impact Zone was constructed atop an ancient native burial ground or gotten hexed by an angry gypsy.

I suppose I could draw inspiration:  Hey, if this company has managed to stay alive so long despite being run by a bunch of fuckups, then a minor fuckup like me ought to be able to make something of his life. Right? :)

Matt of the Young Bucks posted a tweet and said, "Maybe Nick & I will buy TNA."

I worked for a company that was basically bankrupt for 2 years. My best friend was the CFO while I was there (he has long since moved on) and we would have lunch sometimes and he would say to me, "I don't know if we will make payroll this week." But they are still around and thriving now.

http://wrestlinginc.com/wi/news/2017/0912/632061/backstage-news-on-original-brock-lesnar-vs-braun-strowman-plans/

So the original plans for LESNAR vs STROWMAN at No Mercy was for LESNAR to retain the title, however, I'm now wondering if Vince will change his mind and let STROWMAN win the Title from LESNAR since he's not scheduled back after the PPV til 2017??? STROWMAN could hold the title til the ROYAL RUMBLE and lose it back to LESNAR in a rematch and then LESNAR loses it to REIGNS at WM 34??? That sound about right??? Also, not sure who's in charge of the script writing for the CENA/REIGNS Storyline and the Promos both Men have cut on RAW, but CENA has fucking owned REIGNS every time including last night???

So KO just headbutted Vince and busted him open.  Punched him, super kicked him, and then fucking Bullfrog splashed him and it was AWESOME.

So stoked that Vince is clearly a big KO fan.

I know a lot of fans give Vince a lot of shit for being stubborn and stuck in his ways, but the guy at his age is always willing to put someone over, even if it means blading like he did to put over a storyline.. Obviously this is leading to a HHH vs OWENS Match at WM 34 where HHH will basically have to kill his own creation...

Unless I missed the most incredible sleight of hand of all time, he didn't blade.  He's just 70 and his skin is vascular and bleeds more easily.

Vince didn't even put over Roman this big.  All Roman did was superman punch him.  When's the last time Vince let someone kill him?  Punk?

I really hope they let Owens win at HIAC instead of letting Shane win predictably.. Also,, I think Strowman is going to win the Universal Title from LESNAR since LESNAR isn't do back til the Royal Rumble 2018 where he'll invoke his rematch clause, beat Strowman and then lose the title to REIGNS at WM 34.. That sound about right??? If they let LESNAR win and retain the title then the fans are going to bitch from now until the sun goes down over a part timer being Champion and not being on TV for 4 months... God forbid if we don't have the Champion on every week.. Wait'll REIGNS becomes Champion after WM 34.. The fans will get their wish with him being on TV week after week.. They'll grow sick of it..

I don't know for sure what technique they used, but he may have bladed after all.  They can make a very small cut a little while before the show, give it enough time for the platelets to stop the bleeding, clean any visible blood and head to the makeup chair for a quick powder.  Then all KO had to do was lightly hit that area.

I was kind of hoping that when Stephanie came out and gave KO the stink-eye, that they'd pull a swerve and reveal Steph is behind KO.  Her husband gave KO the Universal Title after all, and they never really explained that.... why not have them be allies ordering KO to cause chaos on Shane's (in kayfabe) show to sabotage it.  Or something like that.

Anything that doesn't lead to KO staring at the lights for the owners non-wrestler kid. Ugh.

Also.. can we stop using the term X-Pac Heat and replace it with Ziggler Heat?  Jesus, this anti-gimmick gimmick is fucking unbearable.

It's so weird.  Owens is in perfect position to become the Stone Cold inspired ROH fuck the man anti hero, but because Shane is the point of contact in this story and he's a good guy, Owens is the vicious out control monster heel and the McMahons are the heroes?  I wonder if Trips plays into this eventually.

Oh this is a foregone conclusion and designed to get HHH back on TV.. HHH vs OWENS at WM 34 is pretty much a done deal... I'm also wondering if the Cena/Reigns storyline is a 1 and done type of thing or will they draw this out for several matches that ultimately ends at WM 34, Perhaps in a "Loser leaves the WWE" Gimmick enabling Cena to be written off TV Finally since he's Mr. American Grit now along with several other TV appearances???

WWE Stars talk their favorite wrestling games:

AJ styles shilling for Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 made me nerd out. That game was pirated like hell here in the PSOne era; and Kofi Kingston giving a  shoutout to WWF Wrestlefest arcade was aces.

Lol, its like Lucha Underground, where its a not wrestling tv show, but a tv show about wrestling.  Except here,  even the matches are completely dramaticized, and its all girls.  I'd be into it more if any of the girls had any actual meat on their bones.  Buncha skinny actor/pop idol jabronis.

I dunno... they look like all the actual joshi women to me.

Aesthetically maybe.  The wrestlers on the page you linked could all eat these skinny actor/pop idol jabronis playing joshi women for second breakfast.

Needs more Bull Nakano body types.

Meh, the women in Tofu are j-pop singers who make movies and shows, not athletes. The Stardom girls have similar bodies, only more toned and a bit more muscle. Most of them aren't Awesome Kong or Bull Nakano types.

If you want a hoss of a woman though, check out my crush Jordynne Grace.

Hell send her to the WWE Women's Division, specifically SMACKDOWN where the Women's Roster is one sided compared to RAW.. Seems like ever since this brand split, it didn't benefit anyone to say the least.. Vince should've left well enough alone..

Jessika Havoc and Alpha Female are my hosses of choice.

But anyway, Tofu would be better with some vareity in body types, like the cast of GLOW on Netflix. They've got some nice and thicc actresses on there.

I'd have preferred a variety of types, but it is what it is... and for what it is, it's actually really good.

Are there no thicc Japanese actresses, pop idols, or models who could've rounded out the cast, though. Seems like they just wanted to go for thin is in. Unless thats just a case of the Japanese entertainment industry in general. Where are all the BBWs at?

Did anyone else watch the Mae Young Classic? It wasn't perfect, but it had a lot of good stuff. Final match was good too.

I need to see more of Xia Li. THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICC

Yes please. Not only is she the new captain of Team Legmeat, she showed waaaaay more potential in her first ever match than anyone rightfully should. Also, haaaaaawt.

The tourney was fun. Toni Storm is a star on arrival, and came real close to stealing the whole show.

Rhea Ripley seems like a potential total package. She just needs more seasoning.

I was just getting ready to post this.. R.I.P Bobby Heenan.. Truly the end of an Era when it comes to the Greatest of all Heel Managers in the WWF.. I'd say Paul Heyman ranks right up there and reminds you of a time when this Company was truly on the top of the world with all the tag teams and stables they had.. Heenan, Mr. Fuji, the Slickster etc.. It simply reminds me of how the product nowadays just isn't as good as it was back then in the 80's.. WWE in 2017 and beyond is more driven by Social Media and the fan base having to inject themselves into the show like attention whores.. Only reason I still hang in there is because of Lesnar, part time or not.. To me, he's the last of the great WWF Wrestlers in a WWE Era if that makes sense...

R,I.P. Bobby the Beautiful Brain

If it weren't for things like NXT, the CWC, and the MYC, I wouldn't bother with current WWE at all. I havent watched a full Raw, Smackdow, or PPV in years.

I usually chime in around the big 4 just to see whats going on, and it hasn't been able to hook me back in. Stuff like the examples above feel like they're from a different company.
Great article on The Brain by David Shoemaker.

For my money, Bobby's finest night as a commentator has to be the 1992 Royal Rumble, the year Flair entered at #3 and walked out champion. Every time Ric was in danger Heenan went nuts. It was awesome how emotionally drained he played it
post #16791 of 16797

Watching RAW right now and just a few observations: Is it possible to turn Bayley heel, or at least alter her look to progress her forward, perhaps losing the ponytail and streamers when she comes out??? Also, will Nia Jaxx ever win the Women's Championship or is she sort of the Big Show of the Women's Division designed to be just that??? Also, what are the chances that Heyman turns on Lesnar at NO MERCY Enabling Strowman to win the Universal Championship, then have Lesnar come back at the Royal Rumble, invoke his rematch clause and win it back, only to lose it to Reigns at WM 34??? Then the whole Wrestling Logic 101 kicks in and dictates that Lesnar has been manhandled too many times on RAW Leading up to this match and this tells me he walks out of the PPV Retaining the title... We shall see next weekend.. On paper, No Mercy looks pretty damn good, but we know how this has turned out in the past..

This is the one thing RAW did get right tonight was this well deserved tribute.. That and this folks was a glorious fucking thing to watch and laugh at: Strowman murdering Enzo..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slR7A8LktWQ

Meanwhile, I see a couple of scenarios for the ending to the Strowman/Lesnar match this Sunday:

1. Lesnar simply retains and the match itself goes roughly 10 minutes or so with Braun dominating most of it, only to lose to the Kimura Lock as opposed to the usual Suplex and F5..

2. Heyman turns on Lesnar just as he's about to put Braun away since Lesnar is supposed to be gone until the Royal Rumble 2018 after this Sunday, so you put the title on Braun, he runs with it til the Royal Rumble where Lesnar returns to invoke his rematch clause, get his much needed revenge on Heyman and Braun, wins back the title only to lose it to Roman Fucking Reigns at WM 34, Then Lesnar retires since there's really nothing left for him to accomplish other than the HOF.. He could come back once a year at WM for the Inaugural Andre the Giant Battle Royal, win it and collect a paycheck... Since Jon Jones fucked up and his Career for that matter, that Supercard is off the table and just as well since Lesnar would've murdered Jones anyway.. Karma I say..

3. No Contest.. This or Strowman wins via DQ and enables Lesnar to retain while making both men look strong..

Holy shit, I vaguely remember this short lived show. Damn, Bobby was a national treasure!

Yeah, his commentary for the 1992 Royal Rumble is the Citizen Kane of wrestling commentary. The bit when Piper comes out as Flair is alone in the ring, just priceless.
