I'd also take issue with the rest of the card stinking - they save their booking shortcuts and ig spots for WM, so Edge/Del Rio and Cena/Miz will both likly be very good. There's MITB, the likely Sheamus/Bryan match, the Punk/Orton match....all good to great prospects. In terms of star wattage it's only got Rock and the HHH/UT match, but in terms of fresh, entertaining matches this is looking like the equal or better of the last few years.

I can't believe there's someone out there under the impression that Ken fucking Anderson is a better prospect than John Cena.

Because John Cena ISN'T a prospect.  He's peaked, he's shown us his best.  If anyone is thinking that clown is going to become bigger, or better then what is right now, you fucking high.

PLEASE explain to me, how liking a guy, who I think has proved time and time again to be good on the mic, is a contrarian?

Because he's not good on the mic? He's a bad catchphrase with fibreglass limbs. Cena had more great matches in 2007 than Anderon's had in his life. Here's where you tell me that Cena was totally carried at the Royal Rumble '07 by noted ring master Umaga!

This is the main problem with WWE creative.  If you are not directly in the title picture, or not going against Undertaker, Cena or Orton, they just forget about you.  This is WHY getting the other titles to be more of a focus is important.   I remember when i was excited in 1999 to see the European Title defended.  I remember when HHH went against the Rock in the ladder match for the IC title at Summerslam.  I can't even tell you who is the IC title holder right now, or even what the other title is?  US Championship?  I loved the old Hardcore Title.  That was cool that they had a 24/7 rule.  That all a sudden, the camera would go to the back, and you'd see Al Snow and Mick Foley going at it for title.

Hey, if you think a guy developing a lisp, and rapping like a douche eqautes to being "good on the mic"..... I'm happy for you.  Say what you want about his injuries and ring work, one thing Anderson excels at is his mic work.

Austin saying "what" over and over again?

In a way, the whole asshole thing, atleast to me, is a jab at the PG rating in WWE.  Kind of like, he knows it's not a "good" catchphrase, but it just something that mocks the programing of WWE.

As far as Cena goes, he just annoys the fuck out me.  I used to really like Orton, but ever since WM 26, his character is dumb.  The facial expressions, and his body movements.  Looks like he's suffering from MS more then anything.  Punk is by far the best star in anyshow right now, can't get enough of the guy.

Speaking of TNA, I can't stand most of the product.  Flair just needs to go away, and same goes for every wrestler over 40 there.  They need to stop being WWE lite, and become their own thing.  ECW knew it couldn't be WCW or WWF, so they did their own thing, they played to their strengths.  TNA has really great athletes, and none are being utalized like they should.  X-Divsion was awesome, and so was the Knockouts, but they are gone.   If I was TNA, I'd focus again on those two, and  on some solid tag team wrestling.   Beer Money is far and away the best tag team in wrestling right now.  And if I was Dixie, I'd put the title on Matt Morgan.  The guy has all the potential in the world, and no one uses him right.

Also, what happened to Nigel McGuinness?  Talk about a guy that has been wasted.

The "what" thing was annoying as fuck and easily Austin's worst promo staple.

Anderson baffles me - he was literally given every chance to be a main event star in WWE. Money in the bank, a multi-month Undertaker feud, the position as McMahon's heir and the ensuing WM match with HHH...and he kept on botching it, be it via injury or flapping his gums to the press or whatever. He never developed his character beyond being the guy who says his own name, despite being given high-profile feuds and lots of interview time. Literally every top guy he worked with, from Michaels to UT to Batista to Cena to HHH to Orton, felt he was sloppy and unsafe. And he has the gall to piss and moan about how WWE mistreated him and didn't use him right? Fuck that. Without WWE awarding him a stature his talents don't deserve he wouldn't be the big fish in TNA's small pond that he is now.

That "what" shit, has stuck around for a long long time... can not stand it.  I can't even count, how many promos were ruined because the crowd wouldn't shut up with that.

just to wet the tongue.  This was a really good build.  Hope then can match or pass it.

Ken Kennedy Anderson is the drizzling shits. His character is being the biggest douchebag you've ever met and he's supposed to be a face. His matches are abyssmal. Just more evidence that the TNA crowds'll cheer for anything.

I think it's fair to say Cena's character is a douchebag too...

Not really. I mean sure Cena is pandering and often goofy dumb, but Anderson comes off like a smug dickhead. His smirking asshole face assures I avoid TNA like the plague.

All the promos Cena cut, were he comes out "demanding" a title shot because he's john cena and can talk in really really long run on sentences without taking a breathe and he also waves his arms up and down to make his point come accross more but really it's just annoying just like this sentence.

I'd take the smug asshole, over the pandering bafoon any day but that's just me I guess, oh well.

Why does he salute, btw?  He wasn't in the military?  Is it because he made "The Marine"?

kennedy is fucking awful, it's no surprise that his arrival on Smackdown co-incided with my not watching it for 2 years and his arrival on TNA means I aint watching that shit either. Fuck Kennedy. Shit wrestler, shit worker, and frankly dull on the mic - ooh he swears, ooh he shouts his name what are you 6? fuck.off.

And he looks like bob holly.

Yea, was never big on Anderson, though I always felt he had a little bit of Austin in there, but it was buried under bones weaker then Sam Jacksons in Unbreakable, and a near complete lack of safe ability. Oh and I really hated the whole 'Anderson...............................................anderson' thing.

The 'What' chant only really works for me when Cole is doing his Email reading and people are just mocking the hell out of it. Its funny how Miz's 'Really???Really????really???' is kind of a take on that.

He first started doing it around the time of The Marine, I think.  At least that's when I started noticing it.  Guess he just didn't stop.

I never got the big deal over him, either.  The mic drop was a cute trick, but apart from that, dude is average at best.

I don't think I've ever seen Cena come out and demand a title shot. He gets a lot of them, sure, but so did Austin and Rock and Batista and pretty much every top face in history. A lot of the moaning about Cena just sounds like "he's not the same top guy as when I was a young'un!". Micah's breakdown of why he does nothing for me, I get - he's at least objective about the fact that the guy is pretty good at what he does, he just does nothing for him. But this notion that Cena's never had a good match, or that any good match he ever has is solely down to his opponent, or that his mic work and presence is a detriment to the company....well, it's stupid.

Cena is trying to be a modern Hogan but it just aint working. But the dude puts in more time promoting the WWE than anyone else, so to say he is a detriment is a joke.

I'd rather watch a Cena world title match than one involving Randy "two star match" Orton anyday of the week.

It's weird because Orton has GREAT chemistry with Cena and Undertaker but pretty much no-one else. I'm hoping Punk can get something good out of him.

You'll never hear me say that he's a detriment to the 'E.  He's the prototype of a company man, and he's wonderful to his fans.  I can speak to that from personal experience, as my friend's little brother still can't stop talking about how nice Cena was to him years after meeting him.  His character just does nothing for me, and his promos are so goofy that I can't take anything that he says seriously.  Even when he's portraying anger, there's just something about it that rings false to me.

Ive been watching pro wrestling since 1988, and with the exception of Savage, Austin and Rock, the lead babyface in the Fed is usually annoying because they're all over the show and you do get sick of 'em. Even legendary workers like HBK or Bret (as baby World Champ) came across as abit like you describe above...

the main thing i find resfreshing about cena (even after all this time) is the fact that he seems to have no politicking or super ego, he does come across as a nice goofball, when you hear the tell-all stories about hogan, hbk, hall, nash, hhh, flair etc. it's always about how they play the system and do whatever they can to stay at the top, fucking anyone who gets in their way. I just don't get that from Cena, so he's either an amazing actor (lol) or just a balls-out nice guy which is why anything he does beyond earnest babyface rings so false. I've never been much of a fan of his promos, "wrestling", merchandise or gimmick but I don't hate him and I don't begrudge him his success - but perhaps he could take an actual year off, let the main event scene grow without him and come back to a massive pop.

So I flipped over to TNA tonight just cause it was that or CNN and .. wow. What crap. Even my girlfriend was like 'I don't like wrestling that much, but this is crap compared to the WWE'. I think Kurt Angle and AJ Styles are the only two guys I really can get into. Oh and way to steal the WWE's video promoting Taker and reuse it to promote Stings return. Way to seperate yourself.

I have to copy and paste the spoilers for next week's IMPACT because they defy any reasonable description on my part:

Quote:

*TNA President Dixie Carter came out but was stopped by Immortal. Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan announced they had won the court case and controlled the entire fate of TNA completely again. They had Dixie removed from the building. Fortune came out but couldn't stop it. It didn't seem to get over, especially since the crowd cheered Hogan.

*Beer Money beat Gunner & Murphy. Ink, Ink challenged Beer Money to a title match at the Victory Road PPV.

*In a bout where she would have had to retire if she lost, Velvet Sky beat Sarita.

*Robbie, Cookie and Angelina from Jersey Shore come out. Angelina ripped on JWow, challenging her to return to TNA and get a piece of her.

*Karen and Jeff Jarrett renew their vows. Orlando Jordan and Eric Young are in the wedding party. Kurt Angle attacked Jeff immediately and the cake was supposed to go in Karen's face but it seemed like they messed something up.

*Scott Steiner beat Rob Terry. Not good.

*Hernandez beat Matt Morgan via DQ.

*They played a 3/3/11 video as an Undertaker knockoff, leading to....

*Sting beat Jeff Hardy to win the TNA title in her return to the company. Huge pop for Sting's return. He looked better in the ring than he did during the last run. Sting wins with the Scorpion Death Drop.

Hahahahaha go TNA youth movement! TNA does realise that the 'net went nuts for Sting in WWE, not Sting in general, right?

Oh man this never gets old.

TNA also did a 3.3.11 video parody of Undertaker's return vignettes last night. I just...I can't fathom the idiocy of this company. They make WCW look like fucking ROH.

i know eh? I actually thought to myself watching it 'y'know...i miss WCW.'

at which point I lamented the state of wrestling in general and switched to Community

What's awesome is that TNA pulled this fan-insulting bait-and-switch bullshit on the same day that WWE unveiled their signing of Mexico's biggest and best young star in an international press conference. Yeah, TNA, you truly are the wrestling company of the future.

only the bookers of TNA would expect fans to boo Hulk freking Hogan and cheer for Dixie Carter. The sheer brown nosing of this angle is staggering...

You know, that taping took place in my neck of the woods, and I saw ZERO news coverage or TV spots about it.  I know TNA doesn't have WWE's budget, but when the WWE is coming, it's on every channel and in the newspaper.  Unless you watched TNA every week, you would have had no clue that they were coming.  I honestly forgot that it had happened until I read your post.

In TNA's world of ass backwards thinking: Not advertising a show = MANY BUYS

Even if you knew TNA was coming to your town, would you really want to go anyway?

Sometimes I like to think TNA is a fevered dream of a hundred or so diehard nWo/WCW era fans that has become sentient. I cannot believe for one second that the people in charge think that what they're doing is great for business.  Here's a perfect example of TNA connecting with their fanbase:

Quote:
colemckelvie_ca @TNAwrestling @TNADixie @JeffJarrettTNA - Just watched the 3.3.11 video. I vow to never watch any TNA programming again. Fuck this company.

I'm astounded that a company like TNA keeps forging ahead with completely moronic ideas while ignoring the cries of reason from the people they're trying to sell on product. It makes my head hurt.

I find TNA to be completely baffling and that's from someone who bought quite a few of their PPVs when they first started. At least back then they were using the X Division and to a lesser extent the tag division to let the fact that they had better athletes do the talking. That was a company that felt like a legitimate alternative to what WWE was offering, especially at that time. Now they just snatch up any old WWE reject and push him straight to the top. I can't believe they read all the Internet buzz about Sting going to WWE and assumed it was excitement over Sting in general and not about the prospects of him facing The Undertaker. That's bush league on a whole new level.

I'm going to give them a bit more credit than that. My guess is that Sting got the title as part of the deal to get him to resign.

Quite possibly the saddest thing I've ever seen:  Back in December, when Orlando was having a cold snap (in the 40s, might as well be arctic weather down here), I was walking thru Universal Studios theme park at close and saw people with bullhorns begging people to come to a TNA taping.  Promising exciting action, big name stars, a chance to be on TV?  No.  "It's warm in here...free tickets...you don't have to stay, leave whenever you want."

I was kind of disappointed at the Buffalo crowd for not screaming "AND MILLIONS" louder.

So does WWE's booking committee sincerely think watching a senior citizen get squashed by a manager and a crooked referee will be interesting? More interesting than watching the senior citizen squash a couch potato commentator? Or was Cole vs Lawler booked with the specific intention to give Wrestlemania attendees a "stretch your legs and visit the concession stand" match?
I really dug Hunter's promo at the start of the show. It couldn't have been more true. I can't think of a single thing interesting to do with Triple H or Undertaker (other than getting to 20-0) after WrestleMania, and I sort of hope this is it for both of them. The Sheamus beatdown afterward was terrible. All this guy's credibility is gone. The squash match after didn't do any favors for Bourne either.

Poor, poor Shameass.

Aside from Sir Squash/Taker, they are doing a piss-poor job of hyping Mania.  The Miz/Cena match is more about who's the bigger star and whining over The Rock than, you know, THE TITLE.  Divas?  Who gives a fuck.  Edge/Del Rio?  Feels like a standard PPV match, not something worth paying $70 to see.  Tag team match? Can't even remember who the champions are right now.  Cole/Lawler?  Bitch please.  You've got 34 days, and while having The Rock in the picture is a great ace, it's shaping up like his apperance will be the highlight of an overall meh Wrestlemania.

I really feel bad for the Miz, who is turning into one of my favorite heels (sans Riley) but is so completely overshadowed by the Rock and HHH and Taker.

The tweeting during the Cage match (and taking Cena's picture) was pretty funny stuff. I'm really hoping that the Miz actually fires Riley and stands on his own.

The crowds have been MOLTEN for Lawler/Cole. That's a hot match, regardless of the wrestling ability of those involved in it. And both guys are playing their roles to perfection. The Rey/Cody match being set up on SmackDown is also getting over huge, and their segment together on Friday night was aces. And CM Punk is doing a Jericho-like job of making his match with Orton into a hot one. I like the stipulation of Orton running through the Nexus on the road to WM. There's actual structure and week-to-week storytelling going on for pretty much all the expected WM matches, which is something that's been missing for a while.

I think Cena goes "serious" in his promo next week the way Rock went "serious" tonight. That promo tonight was damn awful, though. They need to ratchet up the intensity between Cena and Miz - hopefully the absence of A-Ri and that Skull-Crushing Finale to close out Raw will kick it up a notch.

Sheamus is doing a pretty blatant losing streak/"lost his mojo" angle, which will hopefully build to a match with Daniel Bryan at WM. I'm glad they at least addressed the HHH feud, even if it was simply to underline HHH's dominance. Maybe UT does the same to Kane this Friday.

So WM looks like this:

HHH Vs. Undertaker, Career Vs. Streak

John Cena Vs. The Miz, WWE Title

Edge Vs. Alberto Del Rio, WHC

Randy Orton Vs. CM Punk

Rey Mysterio Vs. Cody Rhodes (Mask Vs. Mask?)

Michael Cole Vs. Jerry Lawler

Plus the possibles of:

Big Show/Diesel Vs. The Corre

Sheamus Vs. Daniel Bryan, US Title

Money In The Bank

Divas Title Match

Outside of the Corre match and the Divas match, everything stands a good chance of being very good as a wrestling match or entertaining as a piece of WM sports-entertainment (Cole/Lawler). It's a damn good card, and it's fresh as a daisy. After years of Cena/Orton/Batista/HHH/Edge combo matches, this is like  a breath of fresh air.

I worry Jack Swagger is gonna dull interest in the Cole-Lawler angle. He's not a star on their level. Cena, on the other hand, was insufferable last night. This too-cool-for-school shit is exactly 180 degrees from where they should be going with his character in the run up to Mania...
