Wrestling Discussion Thread (WWE, TNA, ECW, WCW, etc.) - Page 173

Like I said before I am amazed at how well this angle is working.  I have not doubt we will be seeing Punk show up in the crowd at a couple of live WWE events in the near future.

I could see him coming out the crowd this monday, and disrupting the title match...

Nope.  Punk won't show until at least Summerslam.  The "hype" will be internet only.

not so sure about that.  I'm all for that happening, but I got a feeling WWE will blow it's load like 17 year old boy on Prom Night.

oh, and I watched Joker Sting... What the FUCK....
TNA is getting worse...

Apparently the TV Channel Spike is going to rebrand itself towards 18-49 males & females (away from the 18-34 males it currently targets) which make prove damaging to TNA, even with the higher than average ratings the wrestling draws.

EDIT.......ya, NEVERMIND..

Fuck Rey Mysterio.  No one buys action figures, anymore, Vince.

Nah, it makes sense. Aren't he and Del Rio enemies?

*sets his Rey Mystero action figure to the side of the sofa...

It makes no sense to have a buildup like they did for Punk to be off of TV for two weeks.  If they were going to, they would've let the screwjob complete and play itself out.  That way, Punk had to come back to "avenge himself".  He won, though.  He got what he wanted.  Why would he come back this soon?  Now, they've made boneheaded moves in the past, but if they bring him back this quickly, Vince leaving has no weight.  Vince got storyline canned because of how out of hand the Punk shit got.  If it was WCW/TNA, absolutely it would've happened last week or tonight.

Punk was in the "advertisement" for tonight.

He wasn't last week, but the new add for the arena clearly states CM Punk...

Bravo on bringing JR back... BOUGHT FUCKING TIME spoken by everyone.

I totally marked for JR.

suspecting Cole just got himself fired

I wasn't watching. What did he do?

Punk made an appearance.  After Cena (naturally) won back the title from Mysterio, Punk came out to "Cult of Personality".  Nothing after a showdown b/w he and Cena in the ring.  Big pop for Punk, especially after Cena held up the title, then Punk held up his title.

I marked for JR.

Marked harder for Punk.  I prefer "This Fire Burns" to his new theme, though.  And Cena getting the belt off of Mysterio after the man had already had a match earlier in the night makes the oh-so-noble superhero look like a snake in the grass.

Man, the E is fuckin' up. Sorry, Nick P. I was wr-wr-wr... Wr-wr-wr...

It feels like they may actually pull the trigger on a Cena heel turn, finally.   Taking the strap from Rey the very night he won it, then holding up his belt expecting the crowd to see him as the REAL champ only to have Punk get triple the cheers?  That and his ongoing Tweet-Feud with Rock.. and I smell a turn.  I hope so, at least. Super Cena is a bore.

I popped for JR too.. hopefully he gets to stick around for the long haul now. He hasn't lost a step at all, he still brings so much emotion to the matches he calls.

Yeah, I think a turn might be in the offing. Cena cheats to beat Punk?

Judging by the last PPV, Cena is already the top heel in the industry....I can see him or HHH turning on Punk at the PPV. Hell HHH could do the Vince-Rock corporate champion thing with Del Rio and give him a needed superstar rub...

Anyone else notice the "Superman" remark from Lawler when Cena got out of the Mystero STF?

Have to give credit, where credit is due, the main even t was fun, and probably one of the better matches I've seen on Raw in a few months.

Glad Punk is back, you can't blame WWE for bringing him back so quick, considering he is the hottest thing in the company.  Capitalize now, before the fire settles down.  I like his new shirt, but not a fan of his new music.  Cult of Personality isn't a very fitting song, I actually really like This Fire Burns... hope it was a one night only thing.

I also agree, Cena will be turning heal.  WWE rarely, has a program with two babyfaces going at it, and with the upcoming SS showdown between The Rock and Cena, one of them should be the heal.   Why would WWE have Rey Rey win the belt, only for Cena to take advantage of him already having a match?  If they wanted to keep Cena as the squeeky clean babyface, wouldn't having the Miz win the belt in the opening match have been a better option?

I thought it was overall a very solid show (other than the Kingston/Ziggler match which seemed to have too many botched spots).  I do think people are reading too much into the Mysterio/Cena thing though.  I thought that whole point of the show was to try to get you emotionally invested in the championship only to have Punk come back to hammer home the point that those championship matches didn't matter at all.

Hand to God, I was talking to my sister about Cena's SuperCena tendencies, and then a split second later, they called him Superman.  I fucking threw my hands at the TV and burst into laughter.

This is PRICELESS.  One of Jimmy Kimmel's guys has a kid named Archie who HATES CM Punk and LOVES Cena.  Kimmel sent CM Punk to the kid's house.  HILARITY ENSUED.  Also, watch how this SIX YEAR OLD correctly guesses the WWE's booking strategy!

Agreed, with the original plan of the Taker-HHH rematch not happening, there is simply nothing else that could main event Summerslam.

I was kind of hoping that Miz would win. Punk vs. Miz seems like perfect Summerslam main event. Although I was hoping they'd keep Punk out until Royal Rumble. Or at least Survivor Series. Completely understand why WWE would want him back though.

They couldn't keep him out longer than the mandatory 30-day title defense.

ETA: A damn insightful interview that ESPN's Bill Simmons conducted with Punk.

Meltzer reports both good and bad stuff: the immediate direction after SummerSlam is HHH Vs. Punk and Cena Vs. Del Rio. if, IF, Hunter can do the rght this could be huge for Punk. He also reports that management's thinking has shifted from there being a "big two" of Orton and Cena with everyone else underneath to a "big three" of Orton, Cena and Punk. Whoop whoop.

Poor Christian even though he has the belt he still aint considered important.

Yeah, but in the context of their three biggest stars neither is Miz, Del Rio, Mysterio or anyone else.

Does a Christian main event boost ticket sales or PPV buy rates?  I don't have any stats, but I'd guess no.  Money talks, and from the looks of things, it's screaming "CHRISTIAN AIN'T IMPORTANT!"

I like Christian, but I don't think he could draw money if you put a magnet in his ass.

Don't know if you guys have seen this, but a guy on YouTube managed to get a shit-ton of off-camera footage from the infamous "Pillman's Got A Gun" segment.  It is pretty surreal to see how stuff like this is actually filmed and how the director coaches everyone on what to do.  "Don't stop screaming, stay in character until I say cut!"

Part1

Part 2

Part 3

According to a recent Mr Tito article (lords of pain) he actually did boost TNA when he first went there.  But no I doubt he is a serious draw, it was more a joke at his perminant mid card status. (much as I love him).

Having said that just before he left the WWE during his fued with Cena he was white hot and could have been the next big thing.

wow... sad... just sad

Punk was on fire tonight.  The ending was so awkward, though.  The poor guy in the back hitting the buttons on the Punk/Cena theme songs must have sore fingers right now.

LOVED everything last night, minus the Diva match, and the last 45 seconds.  The music going back and forth, got kind of stupid after the 6th switch.

Terrible crowd last night though....

HHH - Punk segment was GOLD.

For a second, I wondered if Beth Phoenix's heel turn was a recasting of the unstoppable squash monster angle they had planned for Kharma.  Then I realized that I had caught myself giving two shits about the Diva's division, and promptly stopped.

Beth's heel turn/push is part of Punk's new deal, as she's his legit girlfriend.

nice to see Col Cabana getting a try out.

Zach Ryders appearances of late can be attributed to Punk too, from online reports.

He needs to teach a class, because this guy gets more women than I can count.  Traci Brooks, Daffney, Maria, Kelly Kelly, Lita, now Beth.  Well played, sir.

It's easy; to quote El Barto "he's a good looking rebel who plays by his own rules"..../girls go swoon/...

He's tattooed, pierced, and unshaven, which is great for pissing off Dad, but he's still a WASP.  It's the perfect amount of danger, like the middle bowl of porridge.

From Gail Kim's Twitter in response to someone's question:  "why? I quit. Why do they even care NOW? like they did b4. In the words of Miz...really? Really????"

Maybe she'll be at Dragon*Con Wrestling as a surprise guest in a couple of weeks.  She performed there with Christy Hemme and Tracey Brooks a couple of years ago when she was in between TNA and WWE.

They cannot, cannot, CANNOT book Punk to lose this Sunday.  Having said that, I loved the fact that right after I said aloud how contract signings all end the same way, Punk said the exact same thing.  I was dying laughing at that.  That clip from The Rock was hilarious, Punk was golden, and Cena's assessment of why Punk needed to win the match was some of his finest work.  Well done by all involved.

But this match was big enough without Sir Squash needing to insert himself.  I don't understand his reasoning behind needing a guest ref in the first place.  Like Punk said, the guy needs that spotlight so much he must be solar-powered.

Damn, this angle is still super hot.

Does anyone take Del Rio seriously anymore? He wins the Royal Rumble and then jobs out to Edge in the first match at WrestleMania. He lost clean to Punk on RAW this week. There's no way they can have him be a legit main eventer the way they've booked him. Yet, from what I've read they plan on giving him the title this fall.

The contract signing was awesome. It's so great seeing Cena get owned by everyone now. I don't know how anyone can take him seriously anymore after how bad The Rock has made fun of him this year. Cena is such a fucking joke and has been his whole career besides a decent run as a mid card rapper/heel on smackdown. This year has been fun to watch.

For Del Rio i have the feeling  they will play up that he keeps comming up short. Making him meaning and more ruthless. Maybe jumping Cena and put him on the shelf
