Star Wars: The Last Supper

Hmm...

Hey all. I just finished this project up for Giant Magazine. It was quite a challenge for me, especially trying to get the likenesses to semi-work.

They wanted selected Star Wars characters in the Last Supper. I started out staying really close to the poses in the actual last supper painting then ended up straying away from them a bit to make the wide range of characters fit.

The gap between Luke and Leia is the gutter of the magazine and it will be cropped off right at the end of yoda.

Lando got hosed.

Very, very, very well done, but I like Annie Lebowitz's Sopranos and Brandon Bird's all-James Woods/Robocop takes better.

Anyone else think Vader should be where Luke is?

Here we go again!
I don't see any blue milk on that table!
It's blasphemtastic!

It does seem a little weird to have the bad guys in there, though. I guess I'm being too literal.
Yeah but from my point of view the Jedi are evil!!

That really was an awful film.
What in the hell are they eating?
Are they all eating...cookies?

Space cookies or something? Blobs of pudding?
It's the space special...get ready for broadway.
Sam Jackson is contemplating eating Yoda.

Wow, I though it couldn't get any worse than the Star Wars Rock Band poster. I was wrong.
Qui-Gon = snubbed.

...is much worse.
That's awesome, Werbal. It's like anti-art.
Hey, I'm pretending that it's still cool to like Star Wars, here!

Oh come on, that's awesome.

It's so spectacularly, stupidly bad that it makes a u-turn and winds up in cooltown.

If you'd been accidentally killed by a blind guy as a setup for a cheap belch gag, you'd be pretty pissed too.
Geez... I haven't seen that thing in a while, Werbal. Now I'm having a hard time deciding which one is frying the eyes in my sockets faster.
I have something terribly embarassing to admit about that "Star Wars Rocks" painting, but I do so hesitate...

You've masturbated to it?
Uh, no. At least not literally.
creepy
I'm betting he's got a framed copy.
I have a copy, but it's rolled up in a poster tube somewhere in my basement. (That's not the embarassing part)
Oh! Tell us Carl! You must tell us! We simply must know!
Your sarcasm humors me further.
Hmmm... you requested it as a birthday/Christmas gift?
Guessing it's signed by someone.
I like them.

Both far less ridiculous than TPM anyhow...
I'll go with a Peter Mayhew signature. Or maybe Kenny Baker.

Yeah, it is. Signed by the artist. But that's not it, either. Final (obvious) clue:

Wow.
There are no words. No... words...

At this point the geek zenith has been reached, methinks.
Hey, like Traci Lords, I was young and needed the money.

In reality, I didn't get paid (except for the signed gratis copy). I just knew the artist (Hugh Fleming from Aussie) as a fellow SW dude back in the day. But when I saw the art posted here and read some of the reactions I felt the need to "come clean". So, one less skeleton in this geek's closet.
I didn't see that one coming. Awesome.

Yes, a humongous whale skeleton at that.
You're totally eyeballing Han's crotch.
The only thing missing at the Last Supper is R2 serving the drinks.
The Rock Concert one in particular is technically beautifully rendered, but really, what the fuck?
I'd like to believe that somewhere out there a painting exists of the STAR WARS characters playing poker. I'd also like to believe that someone viewing this thread has it hanging over their fireplace.

They had better let the Wookie win.
The Star Wars Rocks painting makes me want to like Star Wars again.

Have you no sense of perspective, Werbs? He's clearly lusting after the Golden Rod.
The long-haired beared fellow in the front row could pass for Charlie Brigden, methinks.
To hell with you guys, I'm with Brigden on this one. That painting is fucking kickass. And Moltisanti, just give me some time.
It looks like Darth Vader is about to collide with Han Solo in that painting. I do like Han doing the Pete Townshend impersonation.
