Hi guys, I'm back (seems I always come back around Halloween, imagine that...)

Anyways, I have a question from a fellow geek over at rpg.net, who needs help figureing out what this horror movie is, I figured you're tyhe people to ask soo...

Okay, I saw this about 20+ years ago, and I can only really remember two things about it: The film had a very gothic feel to it, and it contained a scene were a person's (whom I believe was a woman) back sort of cracks like an egg, and a small demon/monster claws its way out.

Any clues?
Later on he says...

We're talking circa 1981/1982. I do have vague memories of a great deal of it set in an old manor house, could've been a period piece, which is probably where I'm getting the gothic feel from. I also remember that it had a score that sounded like standard 70s vaguely electronic creepy horror film music.

In hindsight, it could easily have been a filmed episode of a TV series, as it wasn't gory, just unsettling. It was as if the woman's back was completely hollow, hence the mannequin comparison.

It was a 16mm print and it was screened as part of a horror screening series that included a couple Universal and Hammer films. For all I know, it was The Manitou, and the Hammer films are blurring my memories of it. (One of them was a Hammer Dracula flick, as I remember Christopher Lee clearly.)

Anyone? Anyone?

Oh and its not The Manitou, that's already been discounted...

For some reason, "Mirror, Mirror" starring my favorite flower child name Rainbow Harvest and Yvonne "Lily Munster " De Carlo keeps jumping into my head. I seem to remember someone cracking apart that way, but I don't recall a demon crawling out.

It's definitely Demons.

You SURE it's not the Manitou?

But neither "Demons" or "The Manitou" had a "gothic feel" to them, of course I don't know exactly what the questioner considers "gothic".

If it was "Demons", and the person saw it all the way through, it'd be hard to forget the helicopter scene, and the motor-biking samurai action, perhaps that'll help jog a memory.

More memory

I've got a jumble of memories from the screenings, including something with a screaming crystal skull, but this is the only one I can actually picture. That said, I think I remember some sort of cult or coven involved, either keeping or protecting the woman, but that could easily be a result of the research and not actually a part of the film. The woman was wearing a white frilly nightgown when she collapsed, and I think that her husband might have been involved with the cult/coven.
