Lions Gate Home Entertainment has announced an extended edition of The Punisher which stars Thomas Jane. The disc will be available to own from the 21st November, and should retail at around $19.98. The new cut of the film will include an additional seventeen minutes of material - presented in anamorphic widescreen, along with both English Dolby Digital 5.1 EX, and DTS 6.1 ES tracks. Extras will include an animated Kuwait deleted scene (which was originally slated to open The Punisher, and features Thomas Jane and Russell Andrews), a Punisher Comic Book gallery which allow viewers to click through a gallery of select past and present Marvel comic book covers, and a making of featurette.
Not really sure how 17 minutes is going to help the film. It probably could have used a trim. I hope the bulk of the added footage shows off the beautiful Tampa landscape in all its majesty.

Sorry if I got anyone’s hopes up for a special edition for the ‘89 PUNISHER. No one wishes that was the case more than me.

Unless the new cut shows off Laura Harring in all her majesty, count me out.

Although, if they add footage and take the awful score out of the fight with the Russian, I might give it a rental, at least.

The Extended cut of Daredevil was a pleasant surprise, so I'll give this a chance. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but then again, it wasn't all that GREAT either. Ahhh mediocrity.

I'll get it because the regular version has "There is no justice, only revenge!" on the cover.

The Russian fight is meant as a joke, changing the score misses the point completley.

That cover is tits.
Yeah, that cover is way better then the original DVD one.

I agree as well with the Daredevil recut, sure it was not a great film to begin with, but at least the recut added a more darkness to the film, I just hope this edition gives the film justice, it could have been better. Hell, they shot The Punisher in what, a month or something crazy like that.

It's a joke that doesnt work though, and the fight is salvageable without the film trying to make it.

That cover does rock, though.

And thank you Jeff for getting the proper use of tits.

I liked the music during the Russian fight. I didn't care much for the neighbors dancing to it in the other apartment. But that music helped the fight achieve the right balance of comedy and brutality.

I use it to describe anything I find to be good.

I've never actually seen this movie. I get the impression I didn't miss anything.

I thought the Russian fight was great, it was brutal and funny. But that's just me.
I think it's hilarious, largely because the rest of the film is kinda straight. It's this moment of Miikesque lunacy in an otherwise mediocre film.

My favorite parts definitely involved Castle and his Adventures with the Fire Hydrant. Frank, blow him the fuck up already. I also enjoyed the Castle Vs. Johnny Cash/El Mariachi bit too. Here's to hoping the Extended Cut delves deeper into these plot points.

A trim? I think it could definitely have used some more depth. I suppose most of these 17 minutes will be taken up by the animated intro. Apparently there was 40 minutes of cut footage. I just hope they stick in the subplot with his FBI buddy.

I'm going to wait on the reviews to make a purchase decision, unless it includes a ticket for Punisher 2.

Really liked this flick, sorta reminded me of an Arnold action movie.

Don't think I will buy an extended edtion but I would rent it so see what the extras were.

I have two problems with that cover: "John" and "Travolta."

At least his face isn't on the cover. That ruined the otherwise cool look of the first disc.

The trim I'm talking about would involve a lot of the stuff with Castle making everyone turn on each other. That stuff drags the movie out a bit.

I'm betting the 17 minutes will involve the plot with his FBI partner. The animated sequence from Desert Storm will be a seperate feature.

Can't argue with that. Not that Operation Parking Ticket didn't have me on the edge of my seat. I'd really like to know how they came up with that. Garth Ennis must have shit himself when he read it.

I'll be picking this up, if only for the fact that I'm a die hard Punisher fan, although the fact that this one is getting an extended cut, and Dolph's version is still just the bare bones cut version, has me a bit disappointed. Hopefully they'll put the uncut '89 version out on dvd soon if this one makes some cash.

Agree on all counts.

Also everyone should buy this new dvd if they want that sequel that Jane keeps talking about to ever happen.

If it includes more Tampa footage, then it's a winner!

I don't know if that is going to be enough. Maybe if Frank has a cool cameo in the Spidey flick.
We're getting an extended cut because the first version sold really well on DVD, so if that's not reason enough to make a sequel, I don't know how this edition would be. Either way, not interested. Unless the 17 minutes is action footage, who cares? I think this could be a pretty cool little series of a Transporter-esque budget, but I'm not going to rebuy it in the hopes we'll get a sequel.
Well, I'm buying it because I loved this movie and never got around to buying it. Also, unfortunately, bad-ass DVD covers often sway me as much as special features do. And this one's bad-ass. The Daredevil director's cut got snatched up for the box. That knife through the chin thing at the end is good enough a reason for me.

I... I like you, Tim.

Dude, any kill that makes my sweet little Disney movie-lovin' girlfriend (sorry, Devin) go "HOLY SHIT THAT WAS FUCKING COOL!" gets my 15 bucks.

My girlfriend (TM) on Thomas Jane: "He's not that hot, but after [The Punisher movie in general] he can surely fuck me."

The Punisher is a chick flick.

Hey we need something to keep bitches cool so we can watch The Notebook, right?
They need some more Harry Heck. Probably my favorite-ever wasted supporting character in a shitty movie. If such a list were to exist.

I liked that character a lot, he sure did way more in the movie than he did in the comic.

Stallone would have been the perfect choice for Castle back in the day. Hell, he practically made The Punisher with Cobra. I wonder why this never happened?
Marvel was completely clueless about the movie business back in the 80s. There was a bunch of projects that never got off the ground, and the Lundgren film only barely did.
Don't forget Albert Pyun's masterpiece Captain America. Although that came out in 1990.

Yeah, that was one of their finer efforts, along with the Corman Fantastic Four flick.

Probably because Sly's script of Beverly Hills Cop (I kid you not) ended up morphing straight into Cobra. Frank Cobretti character included.

Gonna have to agree with Stew as well. The Punisher was certainly a film I was wanting to be good but it fell so short. I'll take Lundgren, Yakuza, flying Japanese men into buses at high speeds and a french actor playing a wop over this retread.

Oh and the Daredevil DC was much better than the theatrical version. If it had dropped the shitty nu-metal it would be even better.

The problem with the movie was that Jane looked too much like the good-looking surfer dude that decided to be mean and dyed his hair dark for a movie. EVen how he layed him, he was a good man getting revenge, he did not embodied the Punisher(like say a Clint Eastwood in his 30s would have done). Because he could not do otherwise. I think as far look, if Jane decided to not return, Chris Noth of Law & Order would be perfect. Noth doesn`t have to train like a maniac to be cut like Jane did so he can look good on a poster. Noth is naturally a big guy. He just have to look angry, take a bad guy but throat and you have the Punisher right there.
