50 Years, 50 Films: The Best of Janus Films

It's a shame that most people here are more interested in an extended cut of The Punisher over any of the movies that are included in the box set.

I don't quite understand the point of the set, outside of the nice packaging. If it's 50 DVDs, one for each movie, then you'd be missing out on some of the great 2nd DVDs from Criterion that would contain all the extras for the flicks. But the book looks very nice, and it would make for a very sexy present for somebody who would be introduced to most of these excellent flicks.

Extended cut of the Punisher = $30 tops
This set = $650

Granted, I have no interest in any cut of the Punisher, whatsoever, but I'm not sure to whom these giant-sized type sets are marketed, exactly. As you said, any film collector who would appreciate this set enough to drop that much cash would probably want the extras, etc.

I imagine it'd be useful for budget-conscious libraries (the pre-order price breaks down to $13 a film-a steal for Criterion-and that looks like quite a handsome book).
