It's amazing to me how subtle Cusack is in this. There are the big moments everyone mentions, but I think my two favorite bits of his are when, after he spends the night with Diane, the way he says "I'm shaking because I'm happy". There's this joy to his voice that you haven't heard before, and he doesn't overplay it.

Also, another moment where he could have been big and showy is at the very end, when Diane's father confronts him in prison and is basically calling him a schmuck. "You're a distraction!" And then he goes, just real quiet:

"I'm the distraction that's going with her to England, sir."

And the simple statement of that fact is more devastating to Diane's dad than any physical harm Lloyd could do.

I always forget that Phillip Baker Hall is in this, and his scene with Ione is again, a great scene that's very subtle. He doesn't bullshit her, he just lays it all on the line, and she knows that he's telling the truth. "Because he's guilty."
