While the series was nothing short of great, and I really enjoy both endings for the show, this does come off as pampering the fans that didn't like any of the finales to the series. Hopefully, it'll be a nice continuation of the previous movie, and not four alternate endings to the TV show.

Like you, I'm kind of annoyed about it, but I really liked the characters, and it'll be nice to see some new material featuring them.

DEAR GOD WHY????!!!!! i mean come on all ready. i respect and understand the importance the series had for the time and what it contributed to anime in general, but is there really a need for this? the main character was fucking annoying, there was no character development and the subsequent wrap-up movies ended with the characters still all annoying. this just screams beating a dead horse to me. anytime i hear evangelion nowadays, i recommend rahxephon to people because i think that's how n.g.e. should have worked. just my opinion though.

Yeah, I heard about this a couple of days ago. I wonder how Richard Taylor and WETA feel about this...

Actually, depending on how you interpret the film's ending, Shinji ends up right back where he started. Way I see it, the fact that the high point of his arc (returning to NERV to fight "a Man's fight") ends up with him failing, only to be saved by his mommy leads to a series of increasingly horrible events that utterly defeat him.

I'm an optimist that way....

Oh, I also tend to think this is a really shitty move on GAINAX's part. I'm a huge fan of the show, but sometimes you just have to move on!

Besides, it's just not EVA without Anno.

I really didn't care for the Rahxephon movie. Very hard to follow. Of course I don't know if Evangelion is quite my cup of tea either.

Rahxephon movie was a pointless re-telling of the whole show. It also manages to spoil the whole thing right away, so if you've seen the movie first, you can't really enjoy the (incredible) tv series anymore.
