Jericho on CBS

First episode online

Yahoo has the first episode online. Not an impressive start. Reminded me of the Invasion start but not as good. And seeing as none of the alien shows made it I don't have high hopes for this.

None of the actors are that compelling and there isn't much of a set up other than the nuke going off. invisoThere is the prisoner bus with no prisoners in it but that should be resolved fairly quickend inviso Seems like it wants to be a little like Lost.

It'll get a few more episodes but the excitement factor better be raised because I was bored through out most of it.
Looking forward to this. It has a chance to be better than LOST by actually explaining some shit. Don't tease too much.
Man I was hoping this one was gonna turn out better. I will still give it a view to see, but doesn't sound promising. :-(
post #4 of 282
Underwhelming, but I had big expectations. From the given scenario, a possible nuclear explosion, it was quite leaden. The music - from Spy Game or Bourne Identity, didn't help at all.
TV shows have gone through a period in recent years where anything without an established acting name has flopped, creatively and comercially. It's a pity that reasoning causes me to want to skip "Jericho" because SKEET ULRICH, GERALD MCRANEY and ASHLEY SCOTT doesn't do it for me. C'mon, at least throw me a Paula Marshall or William Devane or something.
It's still only a pilot episode, so I have hope that the show will take off. I watched it early as well, and I thought it had a really good premise. With a lot of characters and development to do in the first ep., sometimes it's hard for a pilot to be the best example of what a show can be IMO.
So Denver gets nuked huh....well I'm ash....
Not bad. First episodes of any show are always spotty (remember ST: TNG? Yeesh)

I like the idea of the prisoners running loose. Could be a cool plot point.

Older brother Simon is looking older than Christ himself.
I give it 4 episodes and it's gone.....I'm not saying it's a bad show and i'm definatly giving it a chance but I'm wondering how many people are gonna want to tune in to see the end of the world.....My biggest complaint is that the characters just aren't that interesting.....But it's just the first episode so there is plenty of room for improvement.
Major Dad?

Major yes!
I watched this last night. It wasnt bad at all. I'll turn in next week just because there is nothing else to watch on Wednesdays at 8 pm.

I'll let the second episode decide for me.

I remember getting hooked on Threshold last year only to see that show get nuked early. Shame.
Not too bad at all, but there was nothing in it that made me go "Can't wait until next week" like Prison Break did.

G-Mac is back on TV?! Got puffyhead along the way, but Gerald McCraney is always the goods in my book.

Speculation Round: The mystery black guy... An angel or escaped con from the bus?
Ok premise, two moments I hated though.

1) The police find a bus off the road, at first they think its the school bus, but ends up being a prision bus. Unforuently, at least one of the prisioners has decided "you know, I'm going to wait here for no reason until someone comes, then I can kill them:

2) After all the drama on the schoolbus, Skitt decides to try to drive them home, but oh no, the fuel gague is on empty. Leaving one question, how was the bus driver intending to get them back home with so little fuel (maybe the bus driver knows something because they got home fine anyway).
As my friend once said... "Thems some pretty bad prot hores".

I'd guess that the con on the bus was unconscious and left behind when the others took off, and was awoken by the lights and voices.

Skeet Ulrich was good for Miracles but has is a bad lead for the show, zero charisma or likeability the first episode.

The prison bus thing was dumb because once the cons come to Jericho in the cop cars the townies will know. The whole town will have guns and I if they have a hostage situation I'll just quit watching there.
I'd rather see a few people straggle into Jericho and have the town not know which are the cons.

And ditch the school bus in favor of concentrating on the nuke going off.

It better pick up because I don't find one of the charcters compelling enough to keep tuning in for long.
At least there's an easy solution to ending the show.
well i dont think I'm ready to let them cancel the show. i thought the first episode was really good, and i want to know what the cause of the explosions is. if that takes a long time to develop, i'm fine as long as the storyline keeps working.

I hated the Prison bus part.....It was so atypical and Christopher has it pretty much nailed it.....The "Cop" from St. Louis is anything but a cop.

As for the schoolbus and the fuel gague....My best guess is that the impact from the crash probabaly disabled the gague....There really was no point in it.
I was looking at the text on my TiVo two weeks from now and it looks like we'll get some info on the nuclear attacks themselves.

(swipe) Apparently there is a satellite TV in one of the bars feeding a Chinese news feed that talks about the attacks.
Watched it On Demand last night, since there was nothing else on. I liked it. Of course its just the pilot episode and they cant tell us everything in one hour.
Saw nothing bad about the prison bus, the guy who shot the cop was, after all, a CRIMINAL and maybe he likes killing people.

As for the gas, maybe when the bus hit the deer, the bus was still running and ran for a while.

What i didnt like was how calm the kids were the whole time. and if i woke up with something jammed in my throat, i'd freak out!

There's more than just the end of the world going on, if it was, they'd all be dead from fallout.

This week's episode.......OH NOES....HERE COMES THE FALLOUT.

No explaination as to what happened to the Mayor.....And I guess we're gonna have to wait and see how many red pins are on the map.....But truthfully I give it two more episodes before CBS pulls the plug on it.
my wife sat down and watched the second episode with me. AFterwards she said "this show plain sucks."

I still find the story somewhat interesting and since nothing comes on at 8 pm on Wednesday I'll continue to watch until its cancelled.
I'm incredibly disappointed that the dude at the end didn't put his first two pins on Las Vegas and Seattle.
Can anyone gimme a recap? I was at a family function last night, and missed out on it.
Last night's was my first episode.

Good concept, decent execution. Not bad, but not good, either. What bugged me most were the lack of characterization, and that I couldn't understand the significance of the red pushpins in the map at the end. Potential targets for attack? Potential places to escape to, or avoid? I assume this guy knows more than he's saying.

As was mentioned earlier in the thread by others, it didn't "grab" me. I'm not dying to see the next episode. That's not good for a serial drama.
the guy with the pushpins had received a transmission using the radio that was given in Morse Code.

He didnt want to tell anyone about the Morse code so he hid the note in his pocket.

You are to assume that the pushpins are places he had learned from the Morse Code are more areas that were bombed.

But since I missed 2 minutes of that scene.. I dont know for sure if he was putting pins in locations that were bombed or locations where there might be survivors.

Looking at his face, Id assume these were locations that were bombed.

They were places bombed since the first two were Denver and Atlanta, two places that the first episode made it apparent were attacked. The fact that he kept grabbing pins as the show ended was very ominous as he had already pushpinned several cities. It's implied for sure, but what bothered me the most was that he had all of those pins ready and a map ready and he told his wife not to ask him any questions. Very suspect behavior.

I will agree that the show hasn't gripped me yet but since the wife has made me suffer through much worse t.v. I am willing to keep tuning in, for now anyway.
I noticed the note fall out of his pocket, but failed to make the connection. By the end of the episode, I was itching to get it over with, so I was probably distracted when the message came in.

The trailer for the next episode... was that a wrecked plane that Skeet found, or what? I missed that, only got a glimpse.
It looked there were 2 landed / crashed planes in the preview. Skeet was def. looking at one that had landed and extended the emergency exit chute. I seem to remember another group of people finding (or seeing) a plane as well.
My biggest problem has to be the plausibility of the writing. The ex-con, when being fired at, tosses his human shield to the ground, and stands PERFECTLY STILL while 2 people take shots at him. The "good guys" are hiding, squirming, ducking for cover, while the bad guy stands in the middle of the road. Might as well be holding a SHOOT ME sign.

Dumb.
Yeah, the entire shootout sequence was lame.

Question - why hasn't anyone tried Internet access? They have generators... did someone try to use a laptop with wi-fi in the pilot?
Apparently Major Dad outlawed teh interwebs. Yeah this show has it's overwhelming share of plot holes but I'm willing to give it a few more weeks in hopes that they may tidy up a bit. They could at least try to explain the internet thing away by saying they get their service from within Denver and that's why it wouldn't work but to not try it is lazy writing.

The shootout sequence would have been o.k. had the one con not thrown the girl away. They could have had her toe stomp him or reverse kick his nads but NOOOO he just throws her to the side. Again, LAZY. I hope it picks up from here though because the premise is kind of cool.
The map at the end looked to be the places that were rumored to be hit already. I liked last shot... he keeps putting pins in but we don't know where...

Expected less from this episode so I came out somewhat satisfied with what I saw.
Yeah that was a really good shot, especially since he seemed to just keep going back over and over. Really added some "holy shit" to the scenario.
Another lame week. Bummer.

And Skeet still looks like a crack whore.
Maybe these early episodes are like the beginning of a superhero movie where we're waiting for the guy to realise he has inherited superpowers from his radiation exposure which will be handy because of the marauding bike gang that will be showing up soon to raid the town for the precious fuel.

Because if apocalyptic movies have tought me anything, it's that they're a'comin'.
So does this show sort of pick up where Terminator 3 left off?
If we're real lucky it takes place between Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes and Battle For The Planet Of The Apes.

Episode 4 sees a platoon of gorillas riding into town on horseback.
Now that I'd watch.
Yes, next week one of the forays from Jericho heads north and finds the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota half-buried in the sand. "You finally did it! Damn you, damn you all to hell!!"
Jericho is getting a few more episodes from me and it better deliver. There are some really good, creepy moments, but the compelling is far outweighed by the cheese so far. There are chunks that remind me of The Stand, but lumps that make me want to hurl a shoe at my TV. I'm holding out small hope that it can be at least watchable.
So much for that hope. Horrible, horrible, ridiculous episode. So, they not only find the the missing fiance's plane that just happened to not crash, they also find the missing shipment of groceries that was coming to town. Yeah. Right. Add in no nuclear fallout being carried in a rain storm that did just happen to bring down normal, everyday ash from a nuclear explosion and this show has even dumber logic than Heroes. That's the last one I'm watching.

Yeah this was without question the worst episode so far and so far it hasn't been that good to begin with....It makes Heroes look like Lost.

I'll try to get thru next week but at this point the only thing I give a shit about is who is Hawkins....Other than that i'm pretty much done with it.
either i know very little about what would happen after a nuclear attack on the entire country and what would happen to a neighboring suburb ...... or the producers/creators dont.
I have a feeling it's them.

So they hide from the rain, but run out in the puddles? The cook and eat outside, where the rain has touched everything? and the list goes on...

What was the black guy doing in the basement?
I'm glad I missed last night's episode then.

I think the point was that once they came out and the geiger counter said no radiation, they knew they be fine (after all one guy did soak in the rain for 20 minutes and he is ok).

Actually I give the show the benefit here (I don't want to watch a show in a mine shaft and a shelter with brief moments at the houses of certain residents as they wait however many years until the radiation dies). If they want to say "no the rain was not radioactive" I'm ok.

Oh and actually they didn't find the plane, they heard interferince in the radio from another airline (the husband's) that the plane landed safely, not much better, but the point is the husband's plane wasn't the one that landed there. The train, ok the train was f'ing weak (espicallly when you consider, where did everyone go, Jerico is probably the closest place to go).

Actually I'm surprised no one mentioned the weakest part of the show. Bombs have gone off, millions around the world have died, but still teens are to busy with their in-crowd to notice.
Found this on the wrestling site onlineonslaught.com

Remember, everybody: watch "Jericho" tonight (and every Wednesday on CBS, at 8pm, eastern)! And you'll be supporting the burgeoning Scaia Boyz Entertainment Empire. We just ask your patience with the first 4-5 episodes, since that's how long it took for the CBS Executive Monkeys to stop trying to ruin the show and let the writers unkill Major Dad so he'd be around for the full season, and stuff like that. But I've been assured that it gets good by November Sweeps, so we just need to get it there.

Good start last week, as the fourth-watched show of the night, and 2nd place in its timeslot.... so if you, OO Nation, want to help keep the ball rolling, please tune in. Better yet, become a Nielsen family, and THEN tune in. Yeah.

Anyway, I'll see you kids again... well, I don't know for sure when, so I won't make any promises. But I'll be sure to keep everybody elses columns/recaps current whether I'm writing or not. Later on....
OK... I was half paying attention to this last night.

Can someone please explain to me what the hell is going on with this black guy and his family?

Appears he knew of the bombs going off in advance because he said only family were allowed to come. The ones who knew would meet up later. It's not known how many knew of the bombs.

My guess is that this will be some home grown terrorism meant to cleanse the USA or something. Highly unlikely that many nukes going off from abroad.
So only families were allowed to leave so they could survive the internal attack?
