That looks quite good.

I just tried to delete the post i posted about this, haha. This looks great, any one see the guy with the swords for arms?
All I can say is HOLY SHIT. That is an opening day viewing for me.

The first quarter of 2007 looks to be a good time to be a fan of action movies, with this, Shoot'em Up and Smokin Aces all coming out before May. Granted, this is much, much different than the other two, but it still looks like a treat.
I can't watch this now, because I'm in the horrible world of dial-up right now, but I can't wait. Everything I've seen so far has looked pretty amazing.

Agreed about the speed-up slow-down stuff, I'm sick of that "effect" in movies already.

I'd love Reznor to get into scoring myself, but I don't see it happening for a while. I read in an interview that he'd move on to film music when he felt he was too old for NIN. Seeing how long he takes in between albums, maybe it's a good thing he's not scoring "300" or we wouldn't be seeing it until 2009.

I have to be the first to dissent and say "meh". I'd have to see it all come together, but from what I could gather from that somewhat blurry trailer, I'm not terribly impressed.

What exactly left you unimpressed? I thought it was a very well put-together considering a lot of post production is still in the works. As for the differing speed sections, I suspect that it may just be for the released footage, a la "Enemy at the Gates."

I'm excited as hell for this to come out.
I was "meh" on the trailer up until the guy got kicked down the well. Everything after that was gold.
Holy Mother of God that looks unbelievably awesome.
I was pretty keen on seeing this anwyay but that totally blew my spine tingly unit into maximum and dangerously lethal overdrive.
Can't think of a film i would rather watch other than The Fountain at this point.
Looks fantastic. How it'll play over the course of a whole feature is another thing, but I think the director is talented.

An non-traditional orchestral scores are great, except when they're cheesy rock anthems and/or power ballads.
Looks like a shiny music video. Very underwhelming.
When, when, WHEN is this movie coming out?

That footage was wonderful. It looked more like paintings or a comic book than a movie. If there is anything that should be hyper-stylized, it should be Greek legend. I mean, it's all about sex and violence. Screw realism, give me whatever the hell I just saw.

Troy would have benefited from the same sort of treatment.
F'N shot of adrenaline on film. Fantastic!

I wouldn't mind 80s metal ballads for soundtrack.
I really don't know what to make of this thing.

First of all, iFilm put it up in the shittiest of quality.

This whole "crush" effect just kind of comes off as bad special FX right now. There are some great looking scenes, and then a lot of "meh" stuff too. Right now, the promo reel just basically advertises a lot of six packs, a lot of shields, a lot of yelling, and a lot of running at each other...and some semi-hot chick.

There also seems to be some lifts directly from Troy (although comparisons would be kind of logical seeing that they both depict the same people) and that line about few standing against many, which I know is a Frank Miller quote, but when said on film just reminds me of Conan the Barbarian and his speech to Crom before his last stand.
Most of the shaky F/X shots were towards the beginning. The exchange between the King and the guy he kicks down a well is horribly blue-screened, but this being a promo reel, complaining about the visual effects seems silly.

What I liked was the promise showed by the more complete shots, especially the final shot of a Spartan launching himself into the crowd of Persians.
I was enjoying it before the pop-metal music started. I certainly hope that isn't in the soundtrack. It profoundly dates the movie and it's really a timeless story. The music combined with the fast/slow motion made it look like a Mountain Dew commercial.
It's really hard to criticise the effects of a movie from a video with such horrible quality.

But judging from my reaction to the trailer, I might have to skip this movie in theatres and wait for the dvd. It will be embarrassing jumping around the theatre flapping my arms and screaming.
That trailer punched my shit in. Awesome.
I'd like to see this footage in Quicktime or a downloadable format not streaming at ifilm.

Still this remains my most anticipated film of 07.

The clip doesn't seem to exist anymore. AICNs link doesn't even work, and the link here at C.H.U.D. that goes to Ifilm says that the "The owner of this content has chosen to hide this clip"
What the fuck does that mean?

Looks like a combination of Troy and Sin City, so call me un-psyched about this one.
I want to see this clip, anyone got another link handy?
"The owner of this content has chosen to hide this clip."

Damn.

And this is a bad thing?
AWESOME. This is now on my must-see list.
Looks amazing. Some of these are shots-for-shots from the comic.

And the Immortals...

I was already sold for opening day. Now I'll sell it to some others.
From the footage I saw, I was severely underwhelmed, but in it's defence the quality of the stream was piss. So I'll withhold any real criticism until an official trailer is released in "glorious Quicktime".

I liked the quick shots of those mutanty things.
Well. That was certainly quite the camp-fest.

Ah hell, I'll be there for Gerry's plastic-fantastic chest, I can't deny it.
Thanks, EdCrane.

I need to change my boxers.

Think I'll have to wear Depends in the cinema.
Fucking spectacular.

And I agree with Devin that this needs a non-traditional score. Sadly they've got a plain-jane composer already, otherwise Trent, in Fragile mode, would be perfect.
I still await a period piece that takes full advantage of the Jesus Lizard back catalogue.
Brian Blessed School of Acting and Persians employing monsters aside, this looks awesome. And the music really fits the mood.

By the way, there's a greek movie blog? Cool!

Yeah, this needs a non-traditional score -- if you want it to look like every 80s heavy metal video ever made.

Ah that's what I get for not reading the thread. Thanks JPT (and Ed Crane!).

I dug it. It didn't necessarily "kick my ass" but I really liked it and agree that the music fit it wonderfully. Anxious to see more.

Agreed. I think you could fit Boilermaker with just about anything. Or even the opening bad thrum of Then Comes Dudly. You know, like during a ballroom dance scene.

About the trailer, yeah, looks alright. Quality was crap. I think I'll have a better idea when I see a trailer on the big screen. But right now, I thought some of it looked lood, some not so good. Definately didn't kick my shit in, though.
Boilermaker is a stiff kick in the nuts. One that feels good though.

Good call, fellow Lizard.
This already looks better than Troy and Alexander. Looks like a blast.
Oh jesus christ. Opening night. I don't care if I'm alone.

Heavy Metal, ya mean.

I will wear socks to this film, just so they can be knocked off.

Oh, I do. I do.

So very true. Gerard Butler apparently screams every line. But that's a good thing. To hell with these damn "Troy"s that try to pretend they aren't inherently ridiculous and campy. You're never going to get a Hollywood action movie based on a historical event that isn't over-the-top, may as well go all the way.
Ok, I finally managed to watch it. Looks pretty damn cool, although some of the non-cgi sets dont look so good, so I hope they fix that. And get the tralier in Quicktime damnit!!! I mean come on, the production diaries are on Apple's website.

All sets are CGI. They had some rocks and shrubs and shit, and a wall made of corpses, as practical things on the soundstage, but everything else was pretty much CGI. They may have had a column or two as well.
Aside from the Gladiator wheat field scenes, it looks just like the comic.
The iFilm and AICN links are working again.

EDIT: Scratch that, iFilm's being a turd, but AICN is working.
Search on iFilm...it's there. Quality is 100% asstastic though. I agree that the musical choice (NiN) is excellent.
