Damn, this is a fine read. And it will break your heart...

I love the artwork for it.

While I'm not crazy over the total work, it's impressive as hell.

Yeah...this book is greatness. They had one copy at the comic shop left when I bought it. The guys who own the place hadn't even gotten a chance to see it yet and asked me if I could unwrap it so they could take a look. Every page of this book is "frame and put on the wall" ready.

The two panels after the "Was it worth it?" line at the end are heartbreaking.

I hope Vaughn continues to do graphic novels. We need more self contained stories like this.

Heartbreaking is the right word for this. Such a great piece of work.

I was on the fence about this. I love Vaughn but the story itself didn't seem that interesting. However, the good word here looks like this will be getting purchased today.

I need to read it again, because I simply didn't put enough thought into the symbolism the first time around. Not that I think it's necessarily so complex that it can't be absorbed upon first read, but because I was so entranced with the story and the art. A gorgeous book, with the best coloring I've ever seen, hands down.

I was stunned by the ending...and SPOILER (not invisotext)...

The recurring theme of the lions having a chance to eat, but never doing so was SO effective at creating reader sympathy.

END SPOILER

I felt like someone had punched me in the gut after I finished this, and I couldn't stop thinking about it for days afterwards. The story is simple but really as a profound impact, and I can't help thinking this will go down as a classic of the medium. It also proves what a versatile writer Vaughan is, since this is devoid of his usual pop culture references and big cliffhangers.

Pretty powerful stuff. I could have done without the distracting human slang ("Whatever?" Seriously?) but that's a fairly minor complaint. And even though I saw the ending coming from a mile away, it still managed to kick my ass.

Along with Morrison's WE3, this will make a pretty nice bookend for my "Holy shit, now I'm going to be depressed for the rest of the day" collection.

It does make a nice companion piece to We3. Although in many ways its more poignent.

The fleshing out of the characters is amazing - and it is indeed heart-breaking when you get to the end. I love the story and the clever way they have told us about the plight of the Iraqis, having no control in a war tearing down your world around you, and the nature/cost of freedom.

Vaughn is an amazing talent and I am dead jealous he came up with this story first. I was going to make a doc about it a year ago - missed out big time.

He is a genius and Im surprised Americans would warm so quickly to something that really isnt very supportive of your bloodlust....sorry still emotional from reading it....i think....

We're not all supportive of our president's bloodlust either, you have to remember.

People who extrapolate the views of a leader to his entire constituency are just as ignorant as said leader.
