Is it possible to save audio from YouTube videos?

...without downloading fancy programs and such? Specifically, I'd like to have an mp3 of the music in this video but have no idea how to do it or if it's even possible.

If you've got Sound Recorder installed on Windows it's not that hard to save it as a .WAV file. You could then use something else, like iTunes or whatever to change it to an MP3 or what you want.

Basically, if you go to Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices. A dialog will pop up, select the Audio tab from there. You'll see a box named 'Sound Recording' and a dropdown menu to pick which sound card to use. Pick the one that your speakers are hooked up to. The click the 'Volume' button.

A new window will pop up named 'Recording Control.' From the Options menu click 'Properties'. There you are presented with a list of possible recording sources. One of them should be named "Wave Out Mix" or something like that. Make sure it's checked and click OK.

Then in the Recording Control window there should be a new column for Wave Out Mix. There should be a little check box down at the bottom that says 'Select'. Select it.

Now you just need to start Sound Recorder. Press Record to start, then press play on YouTube. Let it play through the whole song and voila. You've got the audio.

Thanks for asking that question.

I'm also curious about if you can rip songs from myspace pages.

You can capture them the same way as described above.

But how can you then edit together the 60 second clips that sound recorder lets you record?

hmm, I guess I forgot about the fact that sound recorder only gives you 60 seconds. That's kind of dumb.

You'd have to have another sound recording program. Which would get you into the scary territory of downloading random shareware.

You need to save it as a .flv (Flash Video File), and then you can convert it to other formats. Google helps.

Thanks man, I was being lazy.

And if downloading something is out of the question and you're stuck with sound recorder for whatever reason, before you record the audio, just open sound recorder and record dead space for 60 seconds, then when it's at the end, hit record again, and then after that 60 do it again until you have a full file that's as big as you need it to be. Then go back to the beginning, and record the audio you want.

Now that is EXTREMELY complicated and using a third party software (I'm partial to Soundforge) is definitely your best bet.

Of course you can. Just use some program can help you save audio from youtube videos, I always use it to capture audio from youtube, it also can help you extract audio from youtube videos online and offline (offline means that you can get audio from downloaded youtube video on your computer). And you can also choose the audio format before you download. I got lots of audio files in this way.

This has worked pretty well for me in the past.

keepvid.com now has an mp3 download option.

This will not be troubleshooting with the right guides, why not extract audio tracks from youtube videos. I mean u can utilize some soft to record youtube audio for your own use. You need to save flv as mp3, wav, and other audio formats, then save them on your electronics.

Just to give a couple of new members in this thread a heads up, in the top left corner of the post is a time stamp of when it was posted. Essentially you were answering questions from five years ago, but it's great to see some people here eager to help. Welcome aboard.
