Dexter - Page 4

Damn straight, I kept wondering when that knife was going to play in the scene. Not to mention the deepening connections between Dexter's mom and Harry.

That connection was interesting, as were the scenes between Doakes and Maria.

Few people can say "motherfucker" with the intensity of Doakes. He's really got a gift.
No one wears the ill-fiting golf shirt better than Doakes. That's for sure.

If Hall doesn't get the emmy this year for this episode alone, there is no God.
Man, the fact that The Wire has never been nominated except for one time should tell you there's no god or that the people who run the Emmy's and other Hollywood award shows are in effect...morons.

Hall will probably be edged out by Hugh Laurie. He walks with a cane and everything!

Really great episode last night. I love that everything is crashing down on Dexter but I gotta admit I am a little disappointed that Dexter didn't kill his mother's murderer.
Ya know I was thinking, what about the couple Dexter killed? You know the one Dexter framed the husband for. Dexter killed them both and when his brother brought the wifes body back up he pinned it on the husband and said he ran away. But when they brought all the bodies up they should of seen both the bodies and got suspicious of Dexter. After all it was his DNA findings that convinced them it was the husband.
I did get a good laugh after Dexter noticing the comic book version of hiself and remarking "It's too hot in Miami for leather."

Yeah, there are are a few cases from last year that would bring Dexter into question. But I don't remember them well enough. There was one where there kid was a kid who witnessed the killing. You would think they would pull in him again for questioning.

But I'm assuming not all the bodies were pulled up. His slide case seemed to have more slides than what they found.

This season is just as good as last year, though. Maybe better. It's still early but the show hasn't disappointed me yet.
Of course not, IMDB states he's got 90+ slides in that box and he's been killing since his dad died 15 years ago. Clearly he didn't have a boat back then.

The boat was harries, so he did have it back then. they just have not brought up all the bodies yet. They have only got the ones that missed the hole Dexter was aiming for. They have not got the ice truck killer yet or the husband he pinned that one murder one yet.

Thing about last night episode did bring up the question about was Harry Dexter's real father? Also what will Carradine do when he see that video of Dexter cleaning his boat at night by UV lamp? Does Carradine really want to stop the bay butcher?

The Ice Truck Killer isn't dumped. Dexter made it look like he killed himself with his own set up.

(edit)

Or am I remembering that correctly? He had to assure Deb the Ice Truck Killer is not coming back so I guess he did dump his body.

The ice truck killer's body was found by the police after his 'suicide.' It isn't down there.

If you looked at the angle of the camera, it wasn't pointed at Dexter's boat. It seemed to be pointed toward the entrance to the dock. There was even a loud speaker between the camera and where Dexter's boat was docked. They'll know he was there, just not what he was doing there.

If they've made one thing clear, Dexter's sponsor has no sense of personal boundaries. Which I suppose is what you need to get Dexter to open up.
Dexter's dumping spot was supposed to be the deeper hole you can see in those scenes... the idea being that anything going down there would be swept out to sea by the currents and hidden forever. So any bodies they haven't found, they aren't going to.

The scene of Dexter's sponsor taking a shower is yet more proof that nearly every show would be better on cable.

They've sure set up a doozy of a love triangle. It's actually hard for me to see Dexter choosing Rita over someone that he can lower the facade for (even a little).

Huh. So am I alone in thinking the sponsor is an irritating twat?
The sponsor is an annoying twat (said the gay man), but what she is doing to Dexter and the show overall is pretty damn great. That last episode was pretty damn fun. In fact, this is probably one of the most fun shows on TV right now.

Nice to see they followed up on my "comic book vigilante" comparison.

This was a simply fantastic episode of television. I can't wait to see what questions they have for Dexter after seeing his little cleaning binge.

What thread? It's been completely obliterated. Maybe google cache caught the discussion.

Yeah, when I first glanced through it had everything up to date. Weird that once I posted all the posts disappeared.

CBS is going to start airing Season one, which I'm really excited about. So much happened in season two that I kind of forgot what happened in season one! All of my buddies that don't have Showtime are excited they get to watch!
The last ep I watched had Dexter figuring out the identity of the Ice Truck Killer and the next DVD is two days away! Damn, you netflix!!!

Also, I'm really not digging the women characters. The writers must really hate women because all the females on the show suck.
Disagree. Love Carpenter as his sis. Think she puts in some of the best acting towards the end of the first season.
I think the actresses are doing great with what they have. But I think the women are written as incompetent. There hasn't been one scene where I thought the sis deserved to be doing detective work. Same with the Laguerda(?). Both women got their jobs by taking credit for other people's work. And the girlfriend spends all her time whining about her ex-husband Paul. I just wish the women were portrayed a little more even-handed, with competencies and flaws (e.g., Angel & the Doakes(?)).
Is Julie Benz wondering how she ends up on two shows with characters named Angel? And i think her character is getting stronger and more rounded with every ep.
What? Angel is the Hispanic detective.
I know. Julie Benz (Dex's girlfriend) was on Angel as Darla. And Dexter has it's own Angel. what a lame ass observation this whole thing was. Anyway, I still like her character .
LaGuerta is more obviously incompetent in the book, though.
You're not going to like the women in Season 2 then.

However, Rita gets alot more assertive and stand up for herself a couple times. Deb makes most of the breaks in the Bay Harbor Butcher case on her own.

Oh shit, I forgot about what's her name...the new lieutenant. Yeah, she does no help for furthering women in the law enforcement field.

Mad points to LaGuerta for doing what she did, though!
I thought Deb came off as a little green, but mostly a good cop. But she's just so damn cute I don't really care.
Pfft, the new lieutenant? How about a certain someone exemplifying crazy, possessive woman stereotypes?
Cool twist having the Ice Truck Killer be Dexter's brother. I was gonna be pissed if they didn't explain how he knew so many intimate details of Dexter's life.

Also, we started to see it with Rita, but Dexter choosing Deb over Rudy just shows how far Dexter has come in recognizing he does have feelings and can care about people, even if he doesn't always know how to show it.

I'm still not sure I get why he wouldn't tell Deb about his extracurricular activities. I know that Harry seemed to think she couldn't handle it, but of my many criticisms of her character, being loyal to her brother isn't one of them. I think she may feel betrayed by Harry, but I don't think she would hate Dexter.

Can't wait to check out season 2.
In season 2 it becomes instantly apparent that he can't tell Deb.

Without giving anything away from S2, I think you're wrong. People like to believe that they can accept anything in the people that they love, but it is not true. Not with something like this carried out for so long, so pervasively. It would be an enormous betrayal to Deb, and to her perception of Dexter. Dexter being a killer is the complete opposite of how she sees her brother, and she shows no personality traits that would lead you to believe she could relate to it in anyway. She didn't understand Rudy when she tried to appeal to his goodness. Take with that her being raised by Harry with the perception of him being a good man without any flaws, he dedicated his life to putting men like Dexter away. She couldn't accept it. I don't think she'd hate him, but she'd have to do something about it.

Okay I read the books this series was based on and this is a first for me. The TV show was WAY better than the books. To the point that the books read like fan fiction. Perhaps I'm alone in that opinion. Still, I would love to see the bad guy from the second book show up in season 3. Creepy as fuck.
Agree with your "show better than book" assessment whole heartedly. I thought the books were just cheesy, grocery store fare, but have really enjoyed the series. A lot of that could be Hall, though.
You know, I heard the same sentiment with "Godfather" the book. That the movie really classes up what was considered by many to be a pretty trashy novel. Of course I never read the book to be sure.

I read both Dexter books though and was amazed in how much better the quality of the show was. The characters were better realized and the stories were just better told. I think it's kind funny the producers had a better bead on Dexter than the author himself.

The hell? Season two wrapped up too many dangling threads and basically put the show back where it started...but I was still going to watch it. It's also going to become a much bigger hit now that CBS has put it on the map.

Maybe he just wanted ABC money instead of Showtime money.
Does anyone watch Dirty Sexy Money? I mean, Rath does because of his mancrush on Krause but does anyone else?

Seriously though before it started airing on CBS, I would ask people if they were Dexter fans and they would have no clue what I was talking about, and now when I ask everyone knows exactly what Dexter is and they are all about. I really like the fact that so many more people are becoming fans because it is such an incredible show!
The Godfather and the first two books of Dexter (the third one is awful, don't bother) are good, semi-trashy reads. I wouldn't say they're bad or "fan-fictiony", just not as good as the derivative film/t.v. works. They're worth checking out.

**I hope they don't include the "killer" from book two of the Dexter series. He's truly disturbing, and I don't want to see a visual representation of his M.O.
Dirty Sexy Money is great. I recommend it vigorously.

But that's exactly why they SHOULD include him, to satisfy sick, twisted gore-hounds like me!

I really am curious what path they are going to pursue for season three. The show's been very good about having a long running plot line through out the season. Another rival serial killer? Dexter training the kids? Almost getting caught again? Taking down the mob? Russian gun runners? Supernatural cult? The return of Little Chino? I must know!
What the hell is this doing on CBS? Does anyone know if they shoot two versions of the same episode, one for network airing, the other for cable?

I couldn't imagine the cable episodes just being edited for content. Kinda ruin the point of the show.
You gotta remember that CBS is the home of all those crime dramas. They don't have to edit violence, all they are cutting is the language (poor sis gets shafted again!) and I suppose some nudity (although I don't recall all that much occurring).

The show being on CBS got me to check it out - after watching the first two censored shows, I broke down and tore through Season 1 (now beginning on 2) in a couple of days through netflix online. Great stuff - and yeah, quite a bit of the language got censored (which they admittedly did a pretty good job with - I only noticed a couple of dubs), and even a couple of small scenes (from the first two episodes). I'm am curious as to how they're going to edit the scenes with topless dead women, as some of the scenes are important and go on too long to just edit out. Will they blur it out, add a lame digital bra, or crop the shot?
