Dexter - Page 14

Seems like they are going to reveal Olmos and then Dexter forgives Hanks because it wasn't really his fault. Trying my best to say that without spoilers.

Between this ep of Dexter, Homeland and Sons of Anarchy, it's been a helluva week of TV.

Even the B-plots are working for me, as Quinn's debaucherous descent has amused me greatly.

The evil kid getting a second baptism from Dexter was a nice touch.

I assume our special guest at the end was how they're going to represent the Dark Passenger?

You're right. The new shows, Homeland excluded, may be pretty underwhelming this year, but my old favorites really stepped their game up.

It wouldn't have crossed your mind if you hadn't read that early prediction?

We are half way through the season already and still the only person Olmos interacts with is Colin Hanks. I'm pretty sure that for now at least they want us to think Olmos is imaginary, another Harry Morgan. Or if you like, another Number Six (though thankfully without the sexy little red dress)

Anybody else still watching this or did you all switch over to that Clare Danes show?

Best episode of the season, even though that's not saying much. Really liked Dexter letting go a bit on his road trip with bruv.

Great ep however him runnning into a murderous pot farmer and letting go a guy who knows his secret are a slight stretch.

Still watching, though I think it's mostly forward momentum at that point. I almost want to call this one a filler episode, but it was really engrossing. I love his brother as Dark Passenger and the moral quandary that Jonah put he and Dexter in was well done, a bit cliche and melodramatic, but well done. I wonder, should the show ever progress, we'll see more of the kid, after all, he does know a thing or two about Dexter.

Way to go Dexter on road trip nookie!

American gothic, anyone?

And his pick up line included a grisly recounting of what happened to his mom.   Bonus points!

Nice catch.

Looks like Dexter was renewed for 2 more seasons. It's hard for me to muster up much enthusiasm for this development.

Deb needs to figure it out. Then it will be worth having these new seasons.

I was hoping this would happen around, oh, Season 2 or so. Now we're on Season 6 with no end in sight. As long as the ratings are high, they're content to do the same thing forever.

I'd actually be surprised if Deb could actually find out about Dexter at this point. The Miami PD seems to be functionally retarded right now.

Ugh... Deb. I love Deb, but mostly Vice squad Deb. Not so much Homocide LT Deb. Which means I want Season 1 Deb back.

What the hell, I will admit it. I just want Deb to prance around as a hooker again.

I want the show to go back to Season 1 in terms of just about EVERYTHING.

It's obvious that this show is stuck in a holding pattern and won't make any serious moves towards setting up an end-game* until it's close to being done. And I wouldn't really mind that if the show could keep the character work up, but it just can't. Not only is it practically a common point to bring up how much the supporting cast kinda sucks on this show, but Dexter himself has just become a completely muddled character for me.

Dexter doesn't need to be Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer here, but the fact that he's a man with a deep seated compulsion to kill and a hard time understanding basic human interaction is given lip-service at best, and ignored at worst. I can't believe that the Nebraska episode where he's clearly letting his "dark passenger" influence him, and taking advice from the mental image of his prostitute murdering brother, ends with only a drug-dealing criminal who attempted to blackmail and then attack Dex getting hurt. Dexter is basically a hero at this point,  and his rogues gallery as grand guignol as anything from the pulps. It's embarassing and the show's worse for it.

* Though I totally would get behind a last season plot twist where we not only find out that everybody's known about Dexter from the beginning, but that they've all been covering up for him in nearly every way. Except Doakes, who comes back as a robot programmed by one of his random victim's kids to kill Dexter in revenge.

I've always felt the show put Dexter up as a Punisher like super hero.  It's a bit pulp style silly, but I find it fun as weekly entertainment.  I found it amusing when I showed the first season to a couple friends and there were both "That's the kind of guy I want to marry!"

When I think of good pulp entertainment, I think of something like Sons of Anarchy, which makes more fucking mistakes than any quality show could. But at least seems to be aware that everybody outside of the main character can't be complete dead-weight.

So yes, I'm basically saying that the writers of Dexter need to kill off the entire supporting cast and replace them all with Kim Coates.

I would not object to a show of just Dexter killing people, Deb in skimpy clothes and Masuka making perverted comments.

Worse every week.

So the theory with Olmos pretty much has to be real right? I mean if that is the true big reveal this might be the first episode of Dexter that disappointed me.

At this point the real swerve would be having Olmos be real (ie still alive). As is: worst twist ever. Fans telegraphed it months ago.

I'd actually settle for a scene between Hanks and Olmos that wasn't exactly like every other scene between Hanks and Olmos. God please just one.

And now they're gonna shoehorn in a "Deputy Chief with dead hooker cover-up" subplot. Blech.

Let's hope they kiss at some point then.

I dunno. I like the idea that Olmos is Hank's dark passenger, but considering the writing level of the show recently, I wouldn't give them credit enuff to have come up with that idea. But Olmos does seem to just appear at times, at Hank's house, etc. kinda like Harry does with Dexter. And they are deff. underusing the acting chops of Olmos.

One thing that does bug me, when did Dexter turn into NCIS' Abby? He's a blood splatter guy and now he's doing ballistic tests and happens to have the equipment right there? How convenient.

Especially when you consider he is showing up not at Hank's house but at his sisters. That would mean that he has to sit outside of his sister's house, hidden and then wait for Hank's go go out to his car or throw some garbage out. Also they always make it clear the victims knew there were 2 people but they never hear Olmos. My prediction is that that Dexter finds this out and then allows him to be arrested letting him live because he isn't a "true monster" in control of his actions. They set it up with Trinity's kid. That sucks though because for all the problems the show has sepcifically how they handle everyone who isn't Dexter, a villain and Deb, they ALWAYS stick the landing. Usually the last 3 episodes are edge of your seat shit. If this is how it ends man................

However reading the new announcement for 2 renewed seasons does give me some hope. They was a line that said “DEXTER’s enormous success is a real tribute to the great achievements of its cast, producers, and the powerhouse performance of Michael C. Hall,” said Nevins. “The series is bigger than it’s ever been in its sixth season, both in terms of audience and its impact on the cultural landscape. Together with Michael, the creative team on the show has a very clear sense of where they intend to take the show over the next two seasons and, as a huge fan, I’m excited to watch the story of Dexter Morgan play out.”

That sounds as if they aren't just writing now season to season. Now they are actually writing towards their endgame which means things are going to start moving ahead in a real way now.

Really I'm more fascinated at the behind the scenes decisions at this point that what goes on in the show itself. Because the way the Miami Police Department are handled I'm almost under the impression that somebody in the writer's staff is simply trying to troll people watching the show.

"Oh yeah? You think LaGuerta is a generally worthless character who we've never really done anything with, and would either like her improved or just written off the show? WELL FUCK YOU!! HERE'S MORE LAGUERTA!! SHE'LL HAVE AN AFFAIR WITH BATISTA! SHE'LL ACT PISSY WITH DEB! AND WE WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT HER WHATSOEVER!!! ENJOY IT YOU FUCKING COCKSUCKERS!"

That and the whole "end game" scenario in the first place seems to cause problems with the show. Because at this point it basically can't happen until Deb realizes Dexter is a serial killer, which means Deb has to get consistantly dumber each season as Dexter goes up to "goddamn Batman" levels of over-the-topness.

As a friend im telling you to calm down before you have a heart attack!!! Although I get your anger....I have it for the walking dead. However I had to stop watching it.

I actually enjoy watching Dexter, and the Walking Dead, and American Horror Story.

I sometimes think it's great watching a show go completely off the rails without any idea what to do. Even more so when a show like Dexter has strangely evolved into it's current state.

Ohhh fuck American Horror story? Yeah your hopeless.

Thank God that's finally out of the way.

I don't even know what to say. That was so fucking awful that I'm considering never watching an episode again. What's next, a voodoo priest brings Trinity and Prado back from the dead?

This episode may as well have been titled "Fucking. Duh.".

Well, yeah... but at least it feels like the season proper can get going now. Colin Hanks finally gets to cut loose.

What happens next should be interesting, and the little twist with the lab tech geek was fun... I'd guess it means he and the little blonde are a couple of groupees, and a couple? They pretty much -have- to be directly connected, right?

So they seriously expected this to be a big reveal.

Welcome to the 80s.

I'll wager a lot of people never saw this twist coming and think it's super-shocking though.

I..........don't feel like your being truthful. So I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, it's on the DVR. However from the thread I guess they finally revealed what we all knew. Fuck that is depressing. Despite all the problems I have always loved Dexter and the finales have never disappointed me. Looks like we might be coming up on one that finally will.

It may be tired twist, but they Olmos pulled it off.

Saw a bunch of people on Twitter firing off about what a shock it was. Feel like most people saw it coming after e2. My god this season's been a trainwreck.

The new lab tech shows some promise though. Hope he's the big bad next season.

I hope the big bad for next season is a serial killer who murders his victims in the style of classic Looney Tunes shorts. It can't be any less comical than what we've seen this year.

I hope he's part of some wacky Ice Truck Killer cult that is now stalking Dexter.

Suckiest, most telegraphed twist ever. This is turning out to be a dud season. They should have made Ronny Cox the main villain instead of a single ep guest star. And if you don't know who Ronny Cox is, I suggest you Goggle it.

I will say this though, the scenes with Debra and her shrink are kind of superfluous (like at least 50% of the scenes this season) but Jennifer Carpenter is really great in them. Such an underappreciated actress.

People were seriously surprised about the Geller twist? Damn.

I hope that for once, the writers will do the right thing and have the intern be just a weirdo, rather than another serial killer. Not much chance of that I fear.

Just wanna chime in to say that Jennifer Carpenter is great. Best thing about this season. Aside from Mos, only good aspect this season.

I find it funny that the place is such a hotbed for psychos. At this point wouldn't you have to shut Miami Metro down? It's been infiltrated by so many homicidal maniacs. Even Trinity got to walk about and have a look around the offices. Your lieutenant was engaged to the Ice Truck Killer and you followed that up with the Bay Harbor Butcher (Doakes) being counted amongst your ranks. Wait, it really wasn't the Bay Harbor Butcher. That guy still actually works there.

Even Vic Mackey would look at this and claim shoddy police work.

I don't have Showtime, and look forward to the dvd releases of Dexter, but this twist actually sounds cool to me. Don't know what all the fuss is about. Dexter can't be the only one with a "Dark Passenger". I dig it.

The thing about Dexter is, it's basically 24 now. A once great show (seasons 1-2, arguably 3 and even bits of 4) that is now kinda shitty, one of the few saving graces being a sometimes still great central performance, loads of unnecessary side stories that nobody is really interested in, and as mentioned Miami Metro has been infiltrated by several bad guys (just like CTU!). I had a feeling this would happen ever since season 4 ended, and one of the top producers from 24 jumped on to Dexter. It's not quite as unintentionally entertaining/flat out retarded as the Jack Bauer Power Hour was in those later seasons, but give it time...

This really was the worst episode of Dexter ever. Not just because of the most obvious twist ever, but mainly because of how stupid Dexter had to become to feed the twist.

The secret trap door... didn't Dexter have to move a table to get to it? How would a guy hiding down there have hidden the trap door after entering it?

When Dexter goes down into the cellar, he acts like a guy looking for a corpse. He wanders around in the open with a flashlight, not remotely concerned that a serial killer might be laying in wait.

Plus, they repeated the "Dexter plays around with a serial killer rather than taking them out right away" storyline from the Trinity era, despite how that turned out and the lesson that was supposedly learned.

I'll defend last season till I'm out of breath, but this season is truly a disaster so far.

Spoilers for end of season....

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Travis tracks Dexter back to his house and is about to kill Dexter when all of a sudden, his eyes go wide and drops to the floor.   Turns out feet were stabbed by...little Harrison.   Last shot of the season is Harrison stabbing away, ominous music, cut to black and a little kid's evil laughter.

Because when you're this deep in the hole, you might as well go big.
