I'm glad the Yanks won't see Verlander on full rest again. I predict that the Gambler lasts 1 1/3 innings tonight.
Mets win? No fucking surprise, as Glavine has been the bane of the Dodgers existance since forever. I used to hate him, Maddux, Avery, and Smoltz when they routinely knocked the Dodgers out in the early to mid 90's with the Braves. I hated those fucks, now it's up to Maddux to save them. Funny.
This is something Yankee fans can attest to, you can tell if Mussina is going to hold a lead or not by watching any 10 pitches during his start. Yesterday, I came home from work early, turned on the game, saw them up 3-1 and watched Mussina pitch .2 of an inning. I knew they were going to lose. Just a truth about Mussina. Also the rain-out probably threw off Mussina's fragile rhythm. Oh, and the Tigers came through.

I'm hoping tonight isn't one of those revenge games for Kenny "I can't pitch in New York because I fucked-over both their teams and I'm a fragile little girl who can't take negative crowd reaction" Rogers.

True, dat.

I would've preferred to see Kenny killed in Yankee Stadium. Hopefully the NY press will get in his face with a camera before the game.

And I'm glad to see you eat that crow, Molti. I wasn't going to talk shit until the A's got that first round monkey off their backs. Now I'm ready to start yapping. Bring On The Yankees! We've got a score to settle and a championship to win.
They look pretty good, I can't deny that. I don't know if I'd pick Oakland to beat the Yankees, assuming they get past Detroit, but it would be an interesting series to watch.
God I hate you Kenny.
hells yeah, awesome game for kenny rogers. love my tigers. love detroit sports clubs (maybe next year or ten on those lions tho).
have to admit i didn't see the twins dropping the ball like that, they were the ones i was fearing. tigers vs. a's for the pennant (fingers crossed).
Kenny Fucking Rogers?

The Yankees deserve to lose this series tomorrow afternoon.
1. J Damon, CF
2. D Jeter, SS
3. B Abreu, RF
4. G Sheffield, 1B
5. H Matsui, DH
6. J Posada, C
7. R Cano, 2B
8. A Rodriguez, 3B
9. M Cabrera, LF

Either I've read Alex Rodriguez completely wrong and he'll react to this by belting three homeruns, or Joe Torre just threw him under the bus.

Whose this guy playing for next year?
Kenny Rogers has been a real anchor for this pitching staff, hes been pretty reliable for us and seems to raise the game of the rest of the pitchers. Hope the Tigers can take this today, it would be a huge upset and put us in a good position to take the pennant.

Cubs. This way there will be no pressure because everyone expects him to choke.

A 250 million dollar 8 hole hitter. I hope he goes 0-4 w/ 4 k's.

perfect, an early 3-0 lead for the Tigers.
so far so good, and hell my wolverines are breaking apart the spartans so alls looking good here. then again the tigers have let games get away from them from time to time in the late innings.
I'm enjoying watching this happen to the yankees a little too much.
I'm so upset I can barely post in here. Fucking Yankees. Just shows you money can't buy everything. Thank God for the Mets and the A's or else it'd be a pretty lousy postseason for me.
TIGERS!!!!! is that enough enthusiasm?
Well Wow what an upset. Congrats to the Tigers they got fantastic pitching all series.
Hey, now we have a chance to beat the yanks and mets. That'd be pretty sweet.
i've been watching the tigers all season and you could tell that they've got that chemistry that championship teams have. I was a little annoyed when they celebrated with the champagne after clinching the wild card, and i think blowing the division was the result of that display. But I have no problem the way they celebrated beating the overated yankees. maybe overated is the wrong term, since they do have the best top to bottom order i've ever seen in my young life. New York is such a joke in general though with their denzel washingtons and mayor gulianis and donal trumps. Like they know anything about baseball. Well, maybe denzel does, but carson daily? i havent seen a more deserved butt kicking since the pistons dismantled the lakers. the tigers dont even have to force people pay to watch their games on the YES network so they can buy washed up talent like first basemen gary "can't play first" seinfeld. The tigers play such great baseball. That game where they won 4 to 3 was so beautifuly played. Derek Jeter is a hell of baseball player though.

I tip my hat to Detroit. Watching them defeat the Yankees was an absolute blast. Bonderman was excellent. Pity he wasn't allowed to finish the game.

I'm glad they pulled him, he looked done. This pitching staff is feeling the post-season in a big way, please god let them keep it up.
As any Tigers fan will tell you, when Bonderman loses it, he loses it quick.

And the Mets sweep the Dodgers, to be perfectly honest, I'm not even remotely surprised. Theres not a rotation in the National League left that the Mets can't handle, of course, I figured the same for the Yankees...

Heres to Carpenter getting spent tomorrow, and neither Peavy nor Carpenter being ready to pitch at all before game three of the NLCS.
Looks like Torre will be out before ARod...stupid move by the Yanks if this is true.

Report: Torre out...Piniella in

Man, it feels so much better now that the Yanks are gone...almost as if millions of voices suddenly cried out and were suddenly silenced. Good times.

Tigers vs. A's for the right to play in the World Series. Amazing.
That sound you hear is Fox executives realizing their subway series is gone.
Even FOX doesn't want a Subway series, if you remember the ratings the last one posted. Of course, the problem is, is there another town that'll even show up had they played the Yankees? I thought the Dodgers would be it, but they put up an abysmal rating in LA for game one of the NLDS (Though, I suppose the prime time rating for game two would be more indicative of their potential).

As for firing Joe Torre, to be perfectly honest, he was never a great in-game manager. His soul skill was that of managing egos, and leaving a broken Alex Rodriguez in his wake doesn't really attest to that renowned "touch" of his.

Will the Yankees be better off without him? I doubt it, but its not because of who they lost, its because Brian Cashman's newfound control as NY Yankee General Manager is all but a pipe dream now. How long will he stay with the Yankees once Steinbrenner's done building up his rotisserie league team of aging All-Stars?

And how long before this team regresses back into their 1980's incarnation?

So apparently Steve Swindal (Son-in-law of George Steinbrenner) calmed the beast down, and Joe Torre is staying. Press conference incoming.

A good point from talk radio, though, Steinbrenner is far more malleable these days.

There is one thing thats a lock, though, and thats Alex Rodriguez isn't going to be a NY Yankee next season. There was a slight chance if Lou Pinella came, being a manager Rodriguez liked and one that thinks the world of him... but with the guy who bat him 8th in an elimination game?

There can be no burying of that hatchet.
Only in New York do you have a press conference to announce that you haven't been fired.

As talented as he is, I hope ARod is gone next year. But it's definitely a buyer's market.
I don't care if MLB wants the New York market in prime time, air the fucking games at different times.

I sure am tired of hearing all about the Yankee's "woes". I wish they would fire Torre and trade A-Rod just so when they don't make the post-season the backlash would be monumental. At least give me a reason to have Yankee coverage 24/7 AFTER they've been eliminated from the playoffs.

Speaking of, it never ceases to amaze me when I hear Yankee fans bitch (this isn't directed at you, Rob). Be a fan of K.C. Pittsburgh or the Cubs for a season...see how that sits with ya.

I just shake my head. Most of the whiny Yankee fans aren't old enough to remember the "lean years" (80's-early 90's). I don't expect a ring every year -- especially when you consider the starting pitching.

Tiger's have got pitching in spades, hence their success.

Absolutely, and there's no shame in losing to them. Hell, they were the best team in baseball for what, 90% of the season? And now that they're playing well again, watch out.

Couldn't agree more. Who the HELL thought it was a good idea to air both games at the same time?!?
Even with mediocre starting pitching last night Detroit gets the win.

One look at the plate performace by Alexis Gomez last night and you've gotta believe it's the year of the Tiger.
It's the year of the BORING, too. That game did not hold my interest. I was concentrating on my laptop after the 5th. Oakland? These dudes look lifeless.
Being an A's fan is sort of like being Charlie Brown trying to kick that God damned football. I don't know why I even bother getting my hopes up. I don't have any hope for game three at all. That prick Rogers has always owned the A's for as long as I can remember.
Last two Tigers games have been only so-so compared to the yanks series, but still one more game and there will be a World Series it turns out i actually watch. Exciting stuff for me, being someone who may not have always supported the Tigers with ratings but shows up every year to see 'em live.

Asked about the effectiveness of Mets starter Tom Glavine, Pujols, who lined out twice, said, "He wasn't good. I thought we hit the ball hard but we didn't get any breaks."

"I say he wasn't good at all. We just didn't get some opportunities and that's it. . . . (Glavine did the) same thing that he always does. Throw a changeup, fastball and that was it. I just think we should've done a better job than we did."

I sure hope Tom Glavine isn't any good a few more starts this postseason.
You and me both Monk. Pujols is just being a bitter baby. Yes Glavine just throws a fastball and a change up the which is the same thing he has been doing for his whole career. Oh yeah though ,Albert that career has garnered 290 wins and a Cy Young or two. I get so sick of hearing the complaints that if a guy doesnt throw hard he is not very good. I guess Pujols thinks Greg Maddux was the shits too.

I think the Mets might be in tough tonight. The pitching matchup isnt the greatest and I would be very surprised if the Mets can get more than 3 or 4 runs off Carpenter. I guess they just have to hope he isnt his usual self going on short rest.

Anybody know if there are any radio broadcasts on-line, ya know, for free?

Not legally, no.

As for tonight's game, my hats off to the Cardinals, they just kept battling back.

You could blame Billy Wagner for the ninth, you could blame Carlos Beltran for his GIDP in the eigth, you could even blame Willie Randolph for leaving a clearly spent Guillermo Mota in to face Scott Spiezio in the seventh... in the end, though, it all comes back to that Cardinal lineup making every out tough on the Met bullpen, grinding out an improbable win with their backs to the wall.

This series went from being practically over to downright scary in a heartbeat.

Pujols was just frustrated and vented a bit. Glavine's gameplan obviously worked and it completely owned Albert. Doesn't happen very often. When all's said and done, Albert's career will be more impressive than Glavine's.

Albert and the Cards bounced back nicely last night. Surprising considering Carpenter didn't pitch all that well. This has the makings of an epic series.

Anyone think the A's call pull it off, ala Boston?

I agree he was just venting but it was extremely baby like. As far as his career being far more impressive I tend to disagree there. Yes Pujols is a fantastic player and the begiining of his career ranks up there with all time greats. However Galvine is going to get 300 wins while pitching in the steroid era and I believe he has two Cy Youngs. So unless Pujols hits 600 Hr's has a career batting average of 320 is in top 5 or 6 in RBI's and wins 4 or 5 MVP's it will be hard to have a career far more impressive than Glavine.

To many people just take it as a given Pujols will have these astronomical numbers by the time he is done. Look at Griffey JR yes he has great numbers but injuries have cost him at least 100 HR's and 400 or more RBI's people had him breaking Aaron's record like it was a done deal whose to say that wont happen to Pujols.
I think Pujols takes better care of himself than Griffey did/does.

Indeed, who is to say that Albert will stay healthy for the next 10 years? Then again, maybe Glavine will come out and admit he used 'roids for 20 years. We just won't know until it happens. Until something does happen, we'll just have to continue to watch one of the best hitters in MLB history.
Yes your right we dont know whats gonna happen that was my point. As far as the roids comment, I know it was said in jest who would really believe Glavine was on roids but didnt Pujols' personnel trainer get named in the offseason as someone who gets roids for his clients. I think he is Mike Sweeney's trainer as well. That doesnt mean its true or Pujols uses or used but it would be way more likely he used than Glavine.
The Tigers win. Mags with the walk off. They are playing awesome this postseason, their pitching has been amazing. What a huge advantage they have now by getting the sweep. They have plenty of time to set up their rotation whatever way they want it.
TIGERS!!!! What an amazing turnaround in game 4. God bless you Ordonez, Monroe. Amazing to me, just great.
