The hardest moviegoing decision of my life

Okay, this is killing me.

As of now, I have $100 to my name, give or take. I just got a weekly job with a promotional company and my first gig is tomorrow. They'll pay me for that in a week, or maybe after that. Whatever the case, I live alone and I need to support myself, so I will definitely be looking forward to that. In the meantime, groceries and Metrocards.

If this were any other weekend, I'd be using a small chunk of that money to go see "The Departed" but there are two other, crazy, can't miss options I can pursue instead.

As reported on Creature-Corner, the IFC Center and Fangoria are teaming up to do a double feature of "Friday the 13th" and "A Nightmare On Elm Street" for free. As a big horror fan, this seems like a must...

But at the NY Film Festival, they are showing "El Topo", which I don't think has officially screened in America since the 70's. Alejandro Jodorowsky might be there- he's my favorite director of all time. Now, on Saturday, they are showing one of his other films, "The Holy Mountain", and I'm not sure if he'll be there for that. But "El Topo" is just a whole other level of awesome.

So I can either go to a free double feature of two horror classics-

OR

I can go to Lincoln Center and hope they have available tickets (they're sold out- that's a tentative thing with the festival), willing to pay the $16 out of my meager savings for the week for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

What to do?

El Topo, definitely. And if you can't get rush tickets for that, then just go check out The Departed.

Being at a screening of a great film with a great director ALWAYS beats movies you've seen a million times and new movies that are playing at every theater for the next month.

Ah, yes, but it's the financial thing. It would be $16. And I have $90 until a week from Monday.

Yeah but it's a screening of two horror classics with a theaterful of horror geeks. Can't beat that.

I'd say go to the double feature.... but of course, I'm biased...

see El Topo...think of it this way, that's 16 bucks that goes to possibly meeting your fave director and seeing the move on the big screen which may never happen again.

Friday and Nightmare? They'll be on the big screen again. Trust me. I'm going to see Jaws in a theatre next week, so trust me, the old classics always get replay.

I neglected to mention that I already have tickets for "The Holy Mountain". Which makes the decision more complicated.

No brainer. El Topo. You really think they aren't ever gonna do the Elm Street Friday thing again?

...or, given your financial situation, you could not spend any more money?
