If you had to pick 1 sport that you could only watch for the rest of your life, which would it be. Mine would be basketball.

If "football" covers both pros and college, well, that's a no-brainer. However, if you need more specifics, I'd probably say College Football. There's just nothing like it. I'd sure miss baseball, but I'd be OK with reading box scoes the next day.

Tough choice between NFL Football and NHL Hockey.

I would have to pick baseball. Although I love watching the NFL. 1 game a week for 17 weeks will not be enough. Atleast with baseball I can watch 4 or 5 games a week.

I used to watch a lot of NBA, but I don't really watch television anymore.
Lately I'd lean more towards boxing or UFC.

Basketball. Collage if I had to be more specific.

NHL....not even close.

Baseball.

There is nothing more beautiful in sports to me than a perfectly executed breaking ball.

It would be tough letting the NHL go, but noting comes close to baseball for me. It's like a religion.

? You can watch 4 NFL games a week, and soon 5 if you have NFL Network.

If we pick one sport, can we watch movies about other sports? If yes, the sport I would pick is boxing. If no, cockfighting.

NFL. Easy.
I'd probably have to go with hockey (NHL)... with tennis not too far behind.

Of course, theres the whole issue of the concentration of it. Where, at least for the most part, we're talking about nothing from Tuesday - Saturday.

College football. Giving up the NFL woud be tough, but I find college ball is more fun overall to watch. Plus, there are games four days a week.

soccer all the way, baby.

Cricket. Best game in the world.

If I can't have that, then I'll take the NHL.

Football.

Real football that is.

Americans refer to it as 'soccer'.

The best and most popular sport in the world. Nothing else comes close to it.

NASCAR...just kidding, I'm not inbred.

Football (American)

What's with Euros getting all pissed off about Americans calling it soccer? We already had our own football, so it has a different name. Why take personal offense? It's not like we're forcing you to change the name.

Anyways, football is the best sport.

Maybe because soccer has been around longer than American football, so we're the one's bastardizing the name.

Rugby is better than American football, btw.

I don't take offense at you calling it 'soccer'. But 'football' is it's real name.

Where did we get "soccer" anyway?

It's an archaic British term. Apparently, in the late 19th century, there was a group of private schools which played and called the game "association football" (to help distinguish from rugby football). The slang term for it became "socca" (from association) which eventually became socker/soccer.

Britons generally moved on to call rugby football "rugby," association football (soccer) "football." In the USA, however, we kept the term soccer and called American football "football."

American football originated from college play in which the colleges adapted rugby and soccer rules to create a new game, which eventually resembled neither. Which is why, for example, we call a "touchdown" such, despite not requiring the ball to be grounded as in rugby.

College Football. You see, I'm locked into an abusive relationship with Penn State Football: they keep hurting me real bad, but I keep coming back for more.

They still call it association football in some circles, I think.

So, anyway...we didn't pull "soccer" out of our asses. I go now to glare accusingly at my British co-worker.
