Wasteland

Picked this up along with The Boys #3 last week on the recommendation of the fella at The Beguiling, my local comic shop. Pretty good post-apocalyptic B&W read, a definite cut above Just a Pilgrim or the like, sorta what I hoped The Dark Tower would be.

From the website:

Quote:
Wasteland takes place in a devastated, post-apocalyptic future America. Set one hundred years after a catastrophe known as the ‘Big Wet’, it's the story of Michael and Abi, two characters with unique and unnatural powers, as they search for the fabled land of A-Ree-Yass-I; which legend says is where the Big Wet began.

Their quest will take them thousands of miles across a ruined, hostile land where technology has been forgotten and scavenging is a way of life. Where a relentless sun beats down through a cloudless sky. Where no birds take to the air, no forests carpet the hills. Where the oceans are fetid and poisonous, impossible to cross.

But Michael has been walking this land longer than he can remember. If anyone can beat the odds and survive the journey, Abi believes it's him. With his survival skills and her quick thinking, can they find A-Ree-Yass-I together?

So it sounds like Al Gore wasn't full of crap. In any case, it's a good read. Deserves to stick around. I did some searching, and you can download the first issue off the website:

Worth the look.

Yeah, and their recommendations are generally spot-on.

Just thought I'd give this another plug - as many comic stores have huge discounts on their bins this week. Really worth checking out - especially if you liked Cormac McCarthy's The Road.

Does this have any connection to the excellent computer RPG of the same name? Does anything explode like a blood sausage when it is killed? Still love the story and sense of humor of that game. We wouldn't have the terrific Fallout series without Wasteland.

Great, now I'm going to have to bust out the DOS emulator and see if I can find a copy of the game to play...

Great games, both. If you dug those and read comics then Wasteland will be right up your alley.

The trade collecting the first six issues, Cities in Dust', comes out tomorrow. There's been a lot of talk of McCarthy's 'The Road' on the boards and if you dug that, you'll probably dig this complex, post-apocalyptic tale.
