I was a bit surprised by some of rankings (although admittedly, I only glanced over this for about a minute). Firefighters topping the list? I would have suspected surgeons/doctors to be up there.

I was also surprised to see clergy/ministers ranked in the top ten.

No streetcorner three-card-monte dealer? I demand more prestige.

My father-in-law just retired as a Firefighter captain. Judging from the retirement party, everybody loves them. Especially the ladies....

I have all the respect in the world for firefighters. But should I really put them on a higher pedestal than hardcore pornographers?

I figured top five, but I really thought surgeons would be number one (actually, was that on there?)

I like how 3% refused to say anything about Union leaders. The mob still has impact.

No, your instincts are right.

If there's no crane then a higher pedestal will give a better perspective for the money shot while the guy with the hose can pretty much spray from any angle.

Hmmm .... scientist is 4th -- must be the pains we take to explain our rational approach to things ...

There's always a little bit of fear of doctors. Firefighters have no baggage. And, yeah, 9-11 did wonders for their Q rating. (Intentional crassness.)

If not the three-card Monte dealer, then the Repo Man should be on that list. There lives are always intense and they always have all night every night!

Maybe because firefighter goes in a blazing building, risking their lives for an average salary considering the risks.

The surgeons also have the prestige of saving lives, with a pretty huge paymuch and a much lesser risk, unless your patient is Steven Seagal.
