After 6 months working freelance/minor contract work barely keeping me afloat, I got a sweet job offer.

Then, it got pulled.

I got fired from a job I never even started.

I'll bring the pillows.

Okay, but we'll do a coin toss for who gets to cuss out the lady at the rental car counter.
I'm going with my wife, my Dad, my siblings and their families (13 of us total). bendrix would be cussing out EVERYONE if he tagged along.

I love you guys, but VACATION IS NOT A PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENTS

With the current economy...it kinda IS an achievement.

"I lost 400 lbs!"

"I am now an accredited Air Force General!"

"I'm going to Tampa in seven weeks"

touche.

I was merely following in the rather large footprints of the one (and only) Edhocken.

Congratulations! I take it you're a sales rep at a fitness center or something like that? If so, I hope it's one of those old fashioned ones with medicine balls and vibrating belt contraptions where you just stand there. I'll sign up!

It was a fun lil diversion, and it was nice to hear. No regrets.

Well, I admit it's not the same as being elected into public office (Vote Hocken in '16!). But this will be the first time I'm going there of age. So, I've got that going for me.

HEY. Medicine balls are still in style!

Speaking of balls, I joined a couple of weight-loss challenges after I ballooned to an embarrassing 278 (that's what getting depressed and letting too many cheat meals happen does to you).

The first one kicked off in the last week of April, and since then I'm down 19 lbs and my lift numbers have actually gone up thanks to Jim Wendler's 5/3/1 strength training program, so I'm very stoked about this coefficient trade-off.

The first challenge ends July 12th, and the second one (which starts today), ends on August 7th, so it'll be interesting to see what happens between now and then...hoping to be back in the 1000-lb. club by then once my benchpress gets with the program - squat and deadlift are still hanging in there.

If all goes well and the numbers keep going up along with my weight going down, I might try to get in touch with some local powerlifting gyms and try to join a competition next year. We'll see.

Which is nice.

'Vote Hocken and achieve total conciousness!'

Sounds awesome. To try and lift half a ton *whistles* wow.

That's fantastic news. Please keep us updated.

I ballooned up to 250 myself (but without your muscle beforehand, so it's probably roughly equivalent.) I've lost about 10 pounds with the Couch to 5K, which I will finally be completing this week if I manage to stay out of the sickness. Came down with two different colds in two weeks, which might be an achievement in and of itself.
C25K is a solid program, I'm planning on giving it a go once I hit around 220 or so. I never thought I'd miss running, but jumping rope, biking, and rowing are getting boring.

That is indeed great news. Best of luck in your endeavor.

I had a flu/sinus infection keep me out of the gym for about 10 days as well, bendrix. It's amazing just how badly that shit can absolutely drain your strength and stamina. As of Monday, I'm back into the routine again and I'm pleased to discover that I didn't LOSE any ground during the sickness.

Every time I get back on the wagon, I tell myself I'll never fall back off again because those first few weeks are just so damn hard. My respiratory/circulatory systems are always more than game, but the muscles and joints just scream constantly until I get to week 6 or so. I'm running with no pain now, and it's a high I can't get from any other exercise.

I'll be adding a swimming regimen and 100 Pushups once I'm done with C25k. I want to get back to lifting weights again, but I should probably wait for my doctor to tell me I don't have a hernia.

Google POSE running and try to incorporate those methods into your runs. I know people who had terrible joint pain before, and it was alleviated by using POSE technique and getting respectable, low-profile shoes.
Yeah the shoes are necessity. I got a decent pair for $55.

One thing I had heard was the idea that you push your foot of the ground rather than pull it off while jogging. This would lessen the impact of your feet hitting the ground. Or just don't hit the ground very hard.

I'll definitely look into it. My girlfriend swears by these specialized shoes that have toes on them and barely any support, which is how everyone who's in the know is saying how you should be running. While they look cool and all, I'd definitely have to transition to them very slowly after a lifetime of thick-soled tennis shoes. Right now I have Saucony Grid Sinisters, which I'm not sold on after excellent experiences with the now-discontinued Saucony Trigons.

But we can take this to the Going to the Gym thread.
Oh man, Saucony. That sucks. New Balance for me.

Nor is buying a V neck sweater, or swimming, or being bored.

This thread lost it's rails long time ago. Perspective people.
Jesus, I get the point and all. Heaven forbid there's a little fun in here.

Now if I came in here saying I bought a can of peas for $.79 every time, that's a whole different story.

You mean enough perspective not to hue and cry at the occasional diversion in a casual message board?
Yeah, stop mirthfully pointing out the follies and foibles of the boards, Trevor.

I bought some dual layer DVD-RWs at Walgreens that I'm pretty sure were priced as single layer. Eat shit, corporation!

Sarcastically exaggerated example to make your point, or a CHILLING PORTENT OF THINGS TO COME??

I fear we'll all know soon enough.
An entry from June 17th, 2010: I bought gas for under $6 a gallon today!
Dang it Phil, now you've tempted me to check the CVS down the street. Thanks a lot.

And in regards to swimming, I don't know about you. But the Butterfly ain't an easy thing to pull off.
I just know he's casting a mournful gaze at his prize crate of pea cans sitting in the corner of his bedroom right now. One day, my pretties.
Well that's where you're wrong. They are in fact cans of peaches. Oh, I showed you!

Tell me about it. I'm still sore, and I only did 50m a week ago. ACHIEVEMENT!
50m with the Buttlerfly? Damn I tip my cap to you, sir. The most I can do is 3/4 of a 25m lane.

Now I would say that's an achievenment. Wouldn't you?

I don't know. What say TatiTrevor? [/mirth]

14.80 posts a day is a bigger achievement!

Never knew posts per day were such an issue of concern for people.

Gratz, Hocken!
I don't know if Phil rounds down, but 14.81! It's like watching the electronic billboard ads that tell you how many people died from cancer so far this year.
I did not round down. Dude's #1 with a bullet!
Alright, let's move on here. Like I said, when I see "Personal Achievements", I think this includes both small things and big things. And you can be a bit silly. Doesn't mean you act like a moron. But please, lighten up. Not everyone has a big accomplishment every day. So unless everyone somehow loses 250 lbs, gets elected senator and quits smoking. This thread will be dead. So spread the enjoyment around.

And once again, lighten up.

It is when not one of them is relevant or interesting or movie related. You get the point. Oh, no, that's the thing. You don't.
More mirth, less jugular please.

It's all cool. It's all cool.
But I think we're only a few merciless taunts away from having him Carrie all over the boards. Go!

15! PPD! 15! PPD! 15! PPD! 15! PPD!

Let me try to bring this back around:

It's been a little over 6 months since I quit smoking and I ran a mile yesterday in 7:14.

I was proud.
