It's a great time. Congrats on both accounts.

To keep going, after a series of months with some economic trouble, i was able to fight for a raise, get it and get a lot more clients than before. Meaning that i could be making almost twice as much as before next month.

Also, after 4 years being single, i am in a serious relationship again.

Good for you, Rob. It helps that we've had great jogging weather (apart from yesterday's downpour). Me, I'm just proud of the fact that, apart from a flu-induced absence, I've been consistently hitting the gym 4-5 nights a week for almost 4 months.
Thanks guys. Also props on the raise and the relationship Tati. And grats Judas on the working out. Sometimes it sucks, but it's worth it in the end.

Awesome work, everyone.

I just got out of my annual performance review 10 minutes ago. Not only did I ACE it, I was told very bluntly by my boss to apply for a promotion.

It sucks to hear that there aren't going to be ANY merit increases this year, though.
Good show, Judas! Congrats on the promotion, and better luck next time (hopefully soon!) on the increase! (I'm in the same boat - I was promised a significant raise and Christmas bonus... two years ago. Still waiting.)

our new video sketch got put up on the front page of break.com, and we are getting killed right now. like, absolutely eviscerated. people are registering new accounts just to wish painful cancer upon us.

I know this is a negative and should bother me. but i gotta be honest, i'm absolutely tickled pink that this many hundreds of people loathe me right now.

EDIT: how's that for a backwards way into bragging about the video? right?

Congrats to both of you!

(And in this economy, to anyone who still has a paying job... They're hard to come by around here.)

Yeah, I just watched it. That was...huh. Well, yeah. That being said, I'd treat Break.com commenters with the same disdain as Youtube commenters. But...yeah.

I can take that. it's not my favorite thing that we've ever done. but, such is the collaborative process i suppose. we tried to do this thing where we made three different endings and put them on the different sites, but....well it is what it is i guess.

i'm always interested in feedback though

I had an emergency appendectomy *and* my last cigarette last Friday. Recovery from the one is going a little easier than recovery from the other. Fortunately, my wife is quitting with me and she's helping me not be such a nicotine whore.

btw...surgery recovery sucks ass

This isn't for me, but a best friend of mine just got offered a job from Microsoft writing for the Halo franchise. This has been a dream of his for years and his wife can now quit her job and take care of their 3 year old son after they relocate to Redmond Washington. I remember when we were kids coming up with stories for video games and he's finally achieved his dream, beating out other guys who seemed more qualified. The stars apparently have lined up in his favor, which means free Xbox games for me.

That's very cool.

Tell him to make it about Space Marines fighting evil aliens. That'd be awesome.

I started getting serious about the gym and working out about two months ago. My life finally settled down to where I could be sure to hit the gym 3 times a week, at least. I weighed once when I started, and was at 330 (which shocked the hell out of the trainer and me). In the 7-8 weeks since, I am down to 308.

My original goal was to hit 250 in time for my Christmas party. Motivation there was buying myself a new suit, and getting a bunch of new clothes for Christmas gifts. At this rate I might boost my workouts to 4-5 days a week, and see if I can't hit my overall goal of 220 (what I weight when I graduated high school) by Christmas.

Huge thanks to Jake, and everyone in the going to the gym thread (which Google didn't find in search for some reason).

Thanks. Right now I'm concentrating on the bike with high resistance, because the calories burned versus pain my knees goes through is pretty damn nice. I've been using calorie calculators online to better track my progress and caloric deficit, because the counter on those machines are so damn off. I started getting a little burnt out last week, and just changed my weekend gym time to half gym half basketball, which helped a lot.
Yeah, the freedieting.com calculator that Diva linked above is great, and I use livestrong.com's The Daily Plate to log all of my intake. It's really helped a lot since I started logging more diligently - I know exactly what to eat and when and it takes a lot of the guesswork out of the diet portion and ensures that I stick to the macros.

And definitely keep changing it up - variety will help you blow up the weight loss more than just doing the same crap over and over. I know that seems obvious, but then I see people who come into the gym and do the same "30 snail-paced minutes of cardio and 3x5 sets of curls" routine every other day while looking horribly depressed the entire time and not really changing much of anything.

And you have 2K posts!

What, you don't want to be rockin' back and forth on your porch swing with Mrs. Booth as both your arteries harden? The two of you gazing longingly at each other through your cataracts, sharing a glass of Metamucil? Having your Mrs. bake you a pie to sink your dentures into, while you go outside and yell at the kids to get the HELL OFF YOUR LAWN OR YOU'RE CALLIN' THE DAMN COPS!!!!

And here I thought you were a romantic. Tsk, tsk.

I have won three, count them, three awards (totaling $1100) to help me present my research at the American Psychological Association's (APA) annual conference being held in Toronto, Canada. One of the awards is the American Psychological Foundation's (APF) Underleider/Zimbardo Travel Scholarship which is only awarded to 7 people nationally. For this award, my bio (with color photo - eek!) will be featured in the APA Monitor and the APF's newsletter.

FANTASTIC, Diva! Drinks are on you tonight?

Thanks for the well-wishes on the anniversary as well.

Fantastic news all around.
Diva, that's amazing. Keep kicking ass.
Congrats to you, Diva...and let's hope that this is the start of something much bigger.

Judas, despite the fearsome man-crush you have on me... I'm very pleased you and your betrothed have spent the last decade in connubial bliss. I only hope my soon-to-be 4th marriage lasts as long.

I received an e-mail today from a rather famous local writer who is very interested in ghostwriting some of my tales of overseas service. Hopefully, we can sit down together soon and hash out the details...

But I'm far more excited about the possibility of attending medical school at the University of Pittsburgh starting next year. My paperwork went through, the VA approved it, and I begin the spring term.

And before you tell me I'm too old, the chief trauma surgeon at Las Vegas University Med Center did not go to med school until he was in his late 40's...
That's awesome, Lima. You've got a TON of hard work ahead of you, that's for sure. I have to ask: will you really be able to transition from being a KILLING machine to a SAVING machine?

As someone in his early 30s who is hoping to start nursing school next year, you give me a tremendous sense of hope. Good luck, man.

The last 6 years of my career were as a medic. It's just a different skill set.

My fiancee said I should go into dermatology. After I stared at her wordlessly for 20 seconds, she said, "Never mind...".

Edit:

eatatjoe's...

Anything is possible... if you want some advice about course work and skill sets you need for nursing/EMT-P certs, message me, and I'll get you sorted.

Ugh. I recently googled "rash" because I had a small itchy patch of skin on my hand (that thankfully went away after a day - probably a bug bite) and was horrified at the skin problems (which is putting it mildly) that some people have. I almost threw up in my mouth at some of the open wounds and red, pussy lesions pictured. I think I'm going to be sick...

Not 'pussy', diva...

'purulent'

I used to make guys do pushups for writing 'pussy' on charts. :P

Hey everyone I just thought I'd share some of my most astounding personal achievements.

1) I have 100% accuracy at card guessing. No joke, ONE HUNDRED PERCENT, as in, never been wrong... as in... telepathic? I've given up on card guessing since as to maintain my stats and keep the perfect 100%, but everyone I tell is still very impressed by it

2) Meeting The Prez the morning of his 2004 convention speech and speaking with him for 10 minutes!!!! Then being there for his speech that night, and declaring "that man will be president"

3) Almost at 10 000 gamer points on the XBOX3 360

and i'm only 23 so the world lays open to me and more acheivements are possible

Even tho' I know not a soul here, I am buzzing as I got the keys to my new art studio today and am well chuffed! I work as a scenic painter/muralist but have not produced a painting for myself for about 3 years (live in London, pay the bills, lazy bastard etc.) and I started getting a big 'now or never' thing kick in last year (turned 30, big cliche crisis i know!).

Finally got enough money this year from my commercial work to be able to afford a studio (not cheap in this here city) and cannot wait to get in there and see what I
produce. Sorta excited and a little anxious as well... I feel a Gin & Tonic coming on.

Vodka it is good sir! I don't have a site at the moment, (another thing on my to-do list) but as I (hopefully) start churning out work that will have to change.

There is a set of some of my work on my flickr page tho' if you fancy having a gander...

I'm writing again, I have not one but two projects on the go.

The first is an old novel I gave up on that may find new life as a screenplay (which will be my first attempt at one).

The second was just something I started to try and get the old creative jucies flowing but the more I play with the idea the more I think it has a pretty solid plot.

After almost 3 years of not doing anything creative this is a big month for me. I was starting to think my creativity was tied to misery like Brian in Spaced.

Congratulations to all on promotions and anniversaries and committing to the gym schedule and awards and being creative! (Diva, I work in a medical dermatology clinic, you do not want to know what kinds of things people come in with)

Speaking of the dermatology clinic (at a major Massachusetts hospital), I got promoted! I'm through dealing with angry patients at the check-in desk and moving on to being chewed out by the faculty. I'm going to be an administrative assistant to about half the physicians in the practice, getting their dictations processed, making sure their accreditation is up to date, and generally helping them fulfill their academic requirements and ambitions. It's not my dream job, but it comes with a nice raise and it will look fabulous on a resume.
