The Best Horror Movie Deaths

I don't think I need to say this, but SPOILERS ahoy:

Maxim Online

I don't agree with its placement, but the Jason X kill is one of my faves.
It doesn't have the "kitchen sink" death from The Blob or the "speech" death from Deep Blue Sea, so it's an incomplete list.
The absence of the first murder in Suspiria invalidates this list.
If we're talking Jason X, I'm a bit more partial to the "sleeping bags swung into trees like baseball bats" kill.
I have no idea why the Friday the 13th part III kill is on there, but oh well. Still a pretty decent list overall. Dead Alive/Braindead alone has more good kills than 10 or 20 of your average horror flicks, so I'm glad it was included.

Two more recent kills I'd insert on one of these lists are the beheading early on in High Tension and the "de-clothe... de-skin!" from Silent Hill.

Isn't that the one where he was beating the one person in the sleeping bag with the other person in the sleeping bag? Classic.
The Joe Pilato kill should be way higher than that just for effects awesomeness alone, but also because its one of the nastiest kills on the list. Sure the infamous Fulci splinter is painful to watch but ripped apart by zombies and getting munched on just about takes the cake for painfull ways to die.

Just to add that F13th 3 kill was pretty crap, they could have used something far better - too many to really decide upon but a few that spring to mind are the shotgun kill in Maniac, Savini in Dawn, the gut munch suicide in Anthropophagous or a whole bunch more that are actually interesting and bloody as hell.

Glad to see Braindead get love but personally I always liked the ripping the skin off the face kill and the baby pulling the head apart. Although for sheer volume of blood and organs I guess you can't beat the lawnmower.

2 jason kills, and neither of them the one where he gets the machete in the head in Part 4? Bullshit.

Still, cool clips- and glad to see Fulci get some love.

Pilato's gets even more points due to the fact that those were real intestines- that hadn't been refrigerated for a while. You can only imagine how much that stunk...

Fuck that. Prophecy did that death first and did it better. That's the only instance you'll see an argument for Prophecy, so it needs to be recognized.

Edit to add - Not a bad list. Especially for a fairly mainstream list. Maybe not my top ten, but a good top ten, anyway.
Besides 1979's "Prophecy", "Men behind the Sun" also did more fun things with Liquid Nitrogen than Jason X. And freezing cold, pressure chambers, and live cats as well.

And "Zombie 2" was just called "Zombie" in the U.S. Somebody was just looking up IMDB titles apparently.

Some fairly decent inclusions although "Evil Dead", the FT13s and and "City of the Living Dead" could be replaced by far worthier entries.

Yeah that one's good, but I sort of don't count it because the girls were holograms.

Fair enough.

Forget it.

Not true. I'd also argue that it's best "Mutant bear movie that features Rocky Balboa's wife" ever...

A quick glance at your avatar lays bare your bias for mutant bears-related material, rendering your argument tenuou at best.

This list is seriously lacking John Cassevetes in The Fury

Fixed.

I definitely have to add Abominable's face-bite as a new fave.

And Henrietta's death (mutation, beating, eye-pop, head sever, then shotgun blast) in Evil Dead 2 is more entertaining than the eye-gouge from #1... plus it's capped with an Ash catch phrase.

I was always partial to this one from Terrorvision.

I call shenanigans on the F the 13th handstand death... Any of Freddy's kills are more creative/entertaining/brutal... shit, even Leprechaun's death-by-tricycle is better.

What about the Johnny Depp body in a blender kill from NOES
post #19 of 24
Aol and Fango teamed up for the best 5 horror movie moments. It's predictable and hosted by a douchebag with a bad british accent. It's pretty horrible.

But they got free movies there! Christopher Lee's The Horror of Dracula and The Mummy, and the original Price House of Wax.

Eh, some of my favorite deaths are from non-horror movies:

Emil's radioactive sluge death from "Robocop".

Lance Hendrickson's death by grenade in "Hard Target". "Oop".

Santiago's death by sythe in "Interview with the Vampire".

Belloq and Toht in "Raiders of the Lost Ark".

Got to be hundreds more.

Isn't is odd that "Raiders" got away with a head explode in a PG film while "Scanners" recived an R?

As far as F13th series is concerned, the "sleeping bag bash" was first done in F13th Pt 7 (Kane Hodder's first outing as Jason), you phillistines.

Incidentally I just watched a 1980 film at the Drafthouse called "Night of the Demon" where not only does Bigfoot do a particularly bloody variation of the "sleeping bag bash", but he also picks a biker up by the dick then rips it off.

This was a good movie.

Does he play the guy who blows up at the end?
If so, very cool scene.

Most unnecessary sentence in the history of the internets.
