CELL Gets Writers

I smell a disaster of "Dreamcatcher"-like proportions in the works. The book was already pencils-in-the-eyes bad, and given the relatively odious history of movie adaptations of King's material, I think we're really in for a bad, bad time.

you're probably wrong.

Hey, for the sake of horror let's hope so.
Of course, as stated, I really loathed this book for a number of reasons:
1) Intrusion of psychic crap
2) Unneeded metaplot about the ultimate battle between good and evil, and once again the inclusion of the old Stephen King standby of a single person representing ultimate evil.
3) Ham-fisted analogies representing King's own increasingly crotchety sense of technophobia.

Maybe you're right though. I wouldn't mind another good apocalypse/survival movie, and King definitely has his moments.

I agree with all of that. I've got faith in Eli Roth though, since I'm one of the (apparently few) who dug both of his movies so far. We'll see how Hostel 2 is first, though...

Alex, I must admit that I had to have had some sort of brain seizure in the midst of reading the original story to have not recognized Roth's name...you're absolutely right - I'm a big fan of his, so if anyone can make this into something worth seeing he can.
Fingers crossed.

you are right about king though. I like Max Overdrive, but the more I see it, the less I like it. its the exact opposite of a movie growing on you. There are very few stephen king adaptations that I like. hopefully the script works. I havent read cell yet, so I'm not sure how good it was. I remember liking dreamcatcher in the theater, but I also remember it was pretty generic.

Maybe I'm both an apologist and, not been male or a teenager, probably irrelevant, but I thought the book was great. I love those two writers. Ed Wood is an amazing film, it's still great many years later. To me, the weak link is Eli Roth, who is well-intentioned but both his movies have not been great. It's so strange how he speaks with such affection for '70s horror then shows none but the most facile awareness of it in his direction. (My opinion, obviously)

Ehh. I hope it's good I don't really think their has been a successful Steven King movie since Carrie.

Sounds interesting, but I have more hope for The Mist than this.
