How much you spending on candy?

Well the kids in my neighborhood will be pleased, spent $60.

Got: Skittles, M&M's, Gummy fangs, Starburst, Reece cups.

This is a topic I have been thinking on recently. I am going to buy some candy soon, but this is the first Halloween at my current address. I would hate to have too few candy, but also would not want to be 'stuck' with too much. At my last apartment complex, no one went trick or treating, so every year I would end up with a bunch of candy to take in to work. I would end up eating a bunch of it myself, and I would like to avoid that. Decisions, decisions.

$60? That'll buy you a lot of candy. How many kids do you usually get?

This is the fourth year that I've lived in a new development--we were one of the first houses. Nobody seemed to know that we were here for the first two years, and I wound up with lots of candy left over. Last year, people figured out that there was a new neighborhood back in here and we got cleaned out in the first hour. I guess that I'd better stock up this year. I'm going to buy some wine too, so that when my friends drop by, the big kids can celebrate.

I'm stocking up on political merchandise. We'll get those kids full...of democracy!

Our neighborhood averages around 200.

Luckily candy is so cheap this time of year that I don't concern myself with the cost. I think I end up spending more on the razor blades than I do the candy.

Probably 20 bucks. We seem to get less and less kids every year, even though it's a nice neighborhood, so they'll be plenty left over for me.

About $20 before Halloween, and about $30 the day after, when all the candy is 50% off. That shit lasts for MONTHS.

If you've met any of your neighbors, you can ask them what kind of traffic you get. Or, just turn out the lights and don't answer the door.

Had a good amount of kids this year. Only have a little bit of candy left (hmmm, seems to be mostly skittles) but of course in the last half hour I was giving more.

Some of the cute costumes this year were: A four year old Darth Vader and several cool looking ninjas.

There were a lot of homemade costumes which to me are the best.

We spent about $15 & still had some left. The amount of trick or treaters was way up on last year, although 1 is not hard to beat.

I'm still sulking because once again my wife wouldn't let me put mouse traps in the candy bowl.

We had a record low turnout last night--probably only seven or eight groups of trick-or-treaters--maybe a dozen kids altogether. We probably had ten times as many last year. And of the ones I got, maybe half weren't even in costume (including little kids). Like their families were just on their way somewhere and thought, what the hell--let's get some candy. There just wasn't anybody on the streets at all in my neighborhood. Kind of strange--more and more families with kids have been moving in. My town has a big downtown party and I think that must be siphoning everybody off.

Good thing that I stopped by the supermarket and bought extra candy yesterday afternoon! My kids are going to be taking sacks full of Reese's Cups for their school lunches for the next two months.

I spent $3 on candy. Which was 2 bags of snickers candies.

We still had some left with only 12 trick or treaters last night.

Say goodbye to their teeth, then.

I don't understand why there seems to be a serious drop in kids trick or treating. When I was a kid, my neighborhood was filled with kids going door to door. In fact, people wouldn't even close their doors, because you could already see the next group of kids coming. I was 14 when I moved from there, and it was like that every year, even if it was the temperature was cold for that time of year.

Now I live in Florida, and it was somewhat busy the first couple of years that I lived here, but we didn't have a single person come to the door last night. I finally went out to a bar around 10, and most of my friends said that they only had a couple of kids walking around their neighborhoods. The weather was great last night, and still no one was out.

I can't figure it out myself either. My guess would be that Halloween is seen as more of an adult holiday and the parents who aren't going out themselves are either worried about safety or the satanic influence of trick-or-treating. My 11 year old daughter told me that lots of her friends aren't allowed to go out, and other ones can only dress up if they don't wear an unChristian costume. I'm glad to see that the world has found another way to squeeze the joy out of childhood.

In the meantime, I'll be sitting here popping Snickers for the rest of the night.

No shit. I went and got a haircut yesterday, and there was a new girl there who did it. We got to talking, and of course, Halloween came up. She said that she doesn't celebrate Halloween, because she "doesn't want her kids going door to door begging for food." No religious reason whatsoever, just a stupid one.

Since she had scissors in her hand, I just kept quiet.

Parents in general just seem to be so much more uptight nowadays, always over-protective of their children. I can completely understand wanting to protect your child, but protect them from serious dangers.

As an aside, I always get a laugh when I see a kid riding his bike wearing enough padding to pass for a football player. Part of being a kid is falling off your bike and getting hurt! I remember the scrapes and cuts being like badges of honor...

I wonder how those kids are going to turn out as adults in the future.

My favorites are parents who take thier infant (under 2) trick or treating. Yeah right, I know who that candy is for

Four houses on my street had their lights on. Four! I almost went out and egged the other houses myself. I was giving out handfuls of candy by the end of the night, as it was clear not too many people were coming. Sad. Got maybe 30 kids or so, half of which were teens who either barely attempted costumes or didn't bother at all.

My favorite costume was a little girl dressed as a fireman. She couldn't have been more than 3 feet tall, and the jacket went down to her feet. So cute.

That, and this girl who had to be about 14, dressed as the sluttiest Dorothy I've ever seen.
