Concerning Reputation Points

Mine are all blue/purple/neutral. Either I don't understand the rep system or my comments offer the following options:

- Approve
- Disapprove
- Ennui
I think Nick upped how much Rep you have to have to actually impact someone else's number, then everyone with enough sway to do so left.
You gotta have three green boxes for your reps to be worth any points. And you have to have less than 3 boxes to care. Catch 22.
People are still paying attention to this?
I think the consensus is that you need three green boxes to make your points count. It is a terrible power us three-boxers wield.

edit: yeah, what soybomb said.

That's ridiculous. Barely anyone has three boxes anymore. And the chance of me getting Devin to give me rep is about as high as the chance of me fucking Scarlett Johansson... or maybe even a bit lower.
All my latest rep points were given by posters of 3000+ post of good reputation.

All grey.

So who are the three people who can influence the system in any manner ?

Just get rid of that crap and be done with it.
This is the last post I will ever do about reputation.

I like it. It's a good way to tell someone you appreciate what they said without dereailing a thread to do it. And it's a nice feeling when people tell you that a certain post made them laugh. It works.

And that's it. I am now done discussing rep. If you want me, I'll be making jokes about yo momma.
Oh, and one other question: what the fuck is "Lookin' good Louis. Feelin' good Billy Ray!" supposed to mean?
It's not post count, it's the little number of green boxes someone has. 3 or more boxes can influence rep. 2 or less and still give and leave comments, but it won't affect your overall rep total. And there are still plenty of people who give rep, wether it counts or not, just as there are still plenty of 3-box people left.

I think you just got neg-repped.
Honestly... two people just neg-repped me... now that's just vindictive.
Well you're not alone.

Devin just said hi.

Sometimes this whole rep thing makes me feel like Cholo trying to get into Fiddler's Green.

Test: Matt - check your rep point counter. What color was the rep I just gave you?
Hey. doesn't anyone out there wanna reverse the meanness that was visited upon me? I feel like Fabfunk with that red square next to my name.

If I could, there'd be more red headed your way, Q.
I've gotten 2 green box comments and about 15 grey, so it probably is a bit skewed. I will admit that getting a positive rep comment brightens my day more than it should, though, so I don't want it done away with entirely.

Oddly, the one negative point I've received, coming as it did from Uncle Cthulu, produced the exact same reaction as the positives.

I agree. I much prefer telling someone "Ha ha" or "nice post" or whatever via the rep system. I do not have much interest in reading 10 posts of "I agree" or "Well said" and on and on, so other than this particular post, I avoid creating those posts myself.

The power structure is sort of stupid, though.

Blue. But JGB just gave me a green (thanks!) and Devin just threw me a red (shock).

Careful. Somebody will red-rep you....

Just as long as it's any of you one box losers!

Which is why I figured nobody was paying attention to it anymore (that and the period when it was briefly disabled). I guess this thread proves otherwise.
Right now, the rep system is a handful of people judging everyone else, making the whole endeavour useless.

We should just kill the whole thing.

Or open it back up so everyone affects it.

If you want to give someone kudos without posting in a thread, PMs work just fine.
I'm still waiting on my deal with Satan to kick in...6 green boxes as soon as the Devil gets on the ball, bitches.
We judge because we're deserving to judge.

It's like I was telling QT in the ELITE BOARDS the other day, at some point you accept your superiority, and stop trying to hide it. Then he showed us some footage from Grindhouse that was just awesome.
I appreciate the thought, JG, but I don't want any pity points. I want to earn my green boxes the old-fashioned way: by insulting unpopular chewers and avoiding Devin like the plague.

I give out positive comments fairly regularly for the reasons P-3 said, but I don't think I've ever given a negative. I don't think it's fair to do to someone just because I disagree with their opinion, and if they're being stupid or a dick I'll take the chance of derailing to ridicule them openly.

I was just curious and couldn't find the answer elsewhere.

I can give some green... for a fee.
I remember a rep thread where the whole 3-box limit was discussed, and everyone seemed to sour on it at that point. Then again, I remember a water buffalo hunting expedition to Nairobi, so anything I say has to be suspect.

I just want to know what the super-secret prize you get when you reach three boxes is... I'm hoping it's a lock of Lundgren's hair.
The only green box I want belongs to She-Hulk.

It is, just not from the part of the body you're thinking.

Indeed.

Guttenberg's cool. He Pos-Rep'd me the other day and it put me within a stone's throw of the legendary "Second Green Box."
Lucky you.

It seems some people reacted to my comment as " Well, you don't like grey, have some red...". Devin's was boring and predictable , but Slater had some panache in his comment, I'll give him that.

So, whatever silly points I once had are melting faster than a beat-up mom sharing the bed of Steven Seagal.

Both sides of the argument are good, but it really feels as there a few select judging the entire rest.

Dickson is right that you don't really need the rep system to acknowledge a good post, but if there is to be a said system, it should at least be remotely credible.

This thread has been found to be illegal*.

Awesome!

*Devin's rampage is actually a great display both of how the system can be abused and how it makes no fucking difference if you get a red or green rep point. so, cheers, I guess, for proving both sides to be simultaneously right and wrong.

Now, that's awesome!
