My burning eyes

Thread Starter
I shouldn't have these problems. My wife is an optician.

I wear contacts. I wear glasses too (sometimes) but mostly I wear contacts. But there are just some days that my contacts just won't "work" due to my sinuses and allergies.

Today is one of those days that I forced my eyes to adjust to the contacts because I didn't want to freakin' wear my glasses.

Now its the afternoon and my eyes are burning.

Does anyone else go through this insanity or am I the last person Not wanting Lasik surgery?

I keep thinking about eye surgery, I just can't seem to pull the trigger on it.

I wear contacts (have so for almost twenty years) and I can't stand it. I hate not being able to see the alarm clock in the morning without grabbing my glasses, I hate having the occasional contact pop out in a meeting, and don't even get me started on swimming...

One of these days, I keep saying - but then something always comes up. Whether it's the need for a new car, or having a baby (that's my newest one, as my wife is five months pregnant) that puts the financial strain on and then I can't do it.

...and yes, staring at a computer all day really gives hell to your eyeballs.

I have a lot of problems with contacts too. A lot of it stems from allergy issues like my eyelids swell up or I get horrific looking pink eye shit. Best advise I can give you is to make sure that they're moist, eyes are free of debris, and than your nowhere near a humid micronesian island (that was my problem).

I just stick to glasses. Contact lenses are a nuisance, and I'd never get Lasik. The idea of firing laser beams at my retinae is a little off-putting.

I've had contacts almost 20 years and love 'em. I have no problems of burning or itching, although if I'm in a smoky room they do get dry. Thank god for the smoking ban in NYC!

I'm dying to get Lasik as the thought of never having to deal with contacts or glasses ever again is very much appealing. But as mentioned by others, the appeal of having laser beams shot into my eyes*... not so much.

*However, if I could shoot laser beans out of my eyes, the world would be mine. MUAHAHAHAHAHA!

I wanna say PRK involves a bit where the ophthalmologist scrapes your eyeball with an electric toothbrush.
Whose first, gentlemen?

I've always had good luck with my contacts as well. I know it doesn't happen often, but every so often someone comes out of lasik with their vision fucked up FOR LIFE, as in there is nothing any doctor can do to even get it back to its pre-laser surgery level. As long as contacts work for me I'll stick with them.

A while ago my contacts begin burning every time I put the in, after about 2-3 hours. Switched lenses, solutions. Finally switched eye docs. No difference. I think it may be psychosomatic (sp?) and hate glasses (especially when I run or play hoops) but I am also not keen on letting some doc treat my eyeballs the way Han Solo treats a tauntaun.

I have the same problem, but one thing I've found is that the dryness is better than the alternative. Now that I'm accustomed to wearing contacts, if I ever go out to a smoky bar wearing glasses (or, for that matter, chop onions while wearing glasses), my eyes are really sensitive. They're used to that extra protection.

i had a problem with my eyes about three months ago, redness and itching. i changed from the monthly lenses to daily disposables, and haven't had a problem since. they're also less hassle.

Hey Neaux,

You're in Durham, aren't you? My wife has had the same problem wearing her contacts since we moved down here. Some days she can't get them in at all. Other days, her eyes start burning by lunchtime. We lived in Virginia, New York and Chicago before we moved to NC and she never had problems in any of those other places. She's tried all kids of different contacts and solutions, but the end result is pretty much the same.

When it comes to my eyes, I'm too much of a wuss to try contacts or lasik, so I stick with my glasses. I used to get itchy eyes, occasional burning, especially after working with the computer. I do recommend taking off your glasses/contacts every so often and try looking at something far away, to give your eyes a bit of a rest. Forget focusing on anything at first, just give your eyes a chance to "breathe" a bit. Slowly, start focusing on something in the distacnce (whether it's blurry or not). Do this for about a month and your eyes slowly get stronger, and the burning and itching falls off. It's been a couple of years since I had any serious burning or eyestrain.
Also, try splashing some cool water to help moisten them (your tears do it naturally, but that extra splash of water helps every so often).

Do the lasik. It's worth it. Contacts are for hookers and fat people. Such a pain in the ass.
